¶ The wholesome tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

5 D er Narr lästert die Zucht seines Vaters; wer aber Strafe annimmt, der wird klug werden.

¶ The fool despises his father’s chastening, but he that regards reproof shall become prudent.

6 I n des Gerechten Haus ist Guts genug; aber in dem Einkommen des Gottlosen ist Verderben.

¶ In the house of the righteous is much provision, but in the fruit of the wicked is trouble.

¶ The lips of the wise disperse wisdom, but the heart of the foolish does not so.

8 D er Gottlosen Opfer ist dem HERRN ein Greuel; aber das Gebet der Frommen ist ihm angenehm.

¶ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

9 D er Gottlosen Weg ist dem HERRN ein Greuel; wer aber der Gerechtigkeit nachjagt, den liebt er.

¶ The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD, but he loves him that follows after righteousness.

10 D en Weg verlassen bringt böse Züchtigung, und wer Strafe haßt, der muß sterben.

¶ Chastening is grievous unto him that forsakes the way, but he that hates reproof shall die.

11 H ölle und Abgrund ist vor dem HERRN; wie viel mehr der Menschen Herzen!

¶ Sheol and hell are before the LORD; how much more then the hearts of men?

12 D er Spötter liebt den nicht, der ihn straft, und geht nicht zu den Weisen.

¶ The scorner does not love the one that reproves him, neither will he go unto the wise.

13 E in fröhlich Herz macht ein fröhlich Angesicht; aber wenn das Herz bekümmert ist, so fällt auch der Mut.

¶ A joyful heart makes a beautiful countenance, but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is abated.

14 E in kluges Herz handelt bedächtig; aber der Narren Mund geht mit Torheit um.

¶ The heart of him that has understanding seeks wisdom, but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.

15 E in Betrübter hat nimmer einen guten Tag; aber ein guter Mut ist ein täglich Wohlleben.

¶ All the days of the poor are difficult, but he that is of a good heart has a continual feast.

16 E s ist besser ein wenig mit der Furcht des HERRN denn großer Schatz, darin Unruhe ist.

¶ Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

17 E s ist besser ein Gericht Kraut mit Liebe, denn ein gemästeter Ochse mit Haß.

Better is a dinner of vegetables where love is than a fatted calf and hatred therewith.

18 E in zorniger Mann richtet Hader an; ein Geduldiger aber stillt den Zank.

¶ A wrathful man stirs up strife, but he that is slow to anger appeases strife.

19 D er Weg des Faulen ist dornig; aber der Weg des Frommen ist wohl gebahnt.

¶ The way of the slothful man is as a hedge of thorns, but the path of the righteous is made plain.

20 E in weiser Sohn erfreut den Vater, und ein törichter Mensch ist seiner Mutter Schande.

¶ The wise son makes a glad father, but the foolish man despises his mother.

21 D em Toren ist die Torheit eine Freude; aber ein verständiger Mann bleibt auf dem rechten Wege.

¶ Folly is joy to him that is destitute of understanding, but the man who is intelligent walks uprightly.

22 D ie Anschläge werden zunichte, wo nicht Rat ist; wo aber viel Ratgeber sind, bestehen sie.

¶ Without counsel purposes are disappointed, but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

23 E s ist einem Manne eine Freude, wenn er richtig antwortet; und ein Wort zu seiner Zeit ist sehr lieblich.

¶ A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!

24 D er Weg des Lebens geht überwärts für den Klugen, auf daß er meide die Hölle unterwärts.

¶ The way of life is uphill to the wise, that he may separate himself from Sheol below.

25 D er HERR wird das Haus des Hoffärtigen zerbrechen und die Grenze der Witwe bestätigen.

¶ The LORD will destroy the house of the proud, but he will establish the inheritance of the widow.

26 D ie Anschläge des Argen sind dem HERRN ein Greuel; aber freundlich reden die Reinen.

¶ The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD, but the speech of the pure is pure.

27 D er Geizige verstört sein eigen Haus; wer aber Geschenke haßt, der wird leben.

¶ He that is greedy of gain troubles his own house, but he that hates gifts shall live.

28 D as Herz des Gerechten ersinnt, was zu antworten ist; aber der Mund der Gottlosen schäumt Böses.

¶ The heart of the righteous studies to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.

29 D er HERR ist fern von den Gottlosen; aber der Gerechten Gebet erhört er.

¶ The LORD is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

30 F reundlicher Anblick erfreut das Herz; eine gute Botschaft labt das Gebein.

¶ The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, and a good report makes the bones fat.

31 D as Ohr, das da hört die Strafe des Lebens, wird unter den Weisen wohnen.

¶ The ear that hears the reproof of life shall abide among the wise.

32 W er sich nicht ziehen läßt, der macht sich selbst zunichte; wer aber auf Strafe hört, der wird klug.

¶ He that refuses chastening despises his own soul, but he that hears reproof has an understanding heart.

33 D ie Furcht des HERRN ist Zucht und Weisheit; und ehe man zu Ehren kommt, muß man zuvor leiden.

¶ The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom, and before honour is humility.
