1 F liehet, ihr Kinder Benjamin, aus Jerusalem und blaset die Drommete auf der Warte Thekoa und werft auf ein Panier über der Warte Beth-Cherem! denn es geht daher ein Unglück von Mitternacht und ein großer Jammer.

¶ O ye sons of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem and blow the shofar in Tekoa and set up as a sign smoke in Bethhaccerem; for evil appears out of the north wind and great destruction.

2 D ie Tochter Zion ist wie eine schöne und lustige Aue.

I shall liken the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman.

3 A ber es werden die Hirten über sie kommen mit ihren Herden, die werden Gezelte rings um sie her aufschlagen und weiden ein jeglicher an seinem Ort und sprechen:

The shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed each one his portion.

4 " Rüstet euch zum Krieg wider sie! Wohlauf, laßt uns hinaufziehen, weil es noch hoch Tag ist! Ei, es will Abend werden, und die Schatten werden groß!

Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up towards the south. Woe unto us! for the day goes away, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out.

5 W ohlan, so laßt uns auf sein, und sollten wir bei Nacht hinaufziehen und ihre Paläste verderben!"

Arise, and let us go up by night, and let us destroy her palaces.

6 D enn also spricht der HERR Zebaoth: Fällt die Bäume und werft einen Wall auf wider Jerusalem; denn sie ist eine Stadt, die heimgesucht werden soll. Ist doch eitel Unrecht darin.

For thus hath the LORD of the hosts said, Hew ye down trees and cast a mount against Jerusalem; this is the city that all of her is to be visited; there is violence in the midst of her.

7 D enn gleichwie ein Born sein Wasser quillt, also quillt auch ihre Bosheit. Ihr Frevel und Gewalt schreit über sie, und ihr Morden und Schlagen treiben sie täglich vor mir.

As the waters never cease to flow from a fountain, so her wickedness never ceases to flow; injustice and robbery is heard in her; in my presence continually, sickness and wounds.

8 B essere dich Jerusalem, ehe sich mein Herz von dir wendet und ich dich zum wüsten Lande mache, darin niemand wohne!

Chastise Jerusalem lest peradventure my soul be disjointed from thee, lest peradventure I make thee desolate, a land not inhabited.

9 S o spricht der HERR Zebaoth: Was übriggeblieben ist von Israel, das muß nachgelesen werden wie am Weinstock. Der Weinleser wird eins nach dem andern in die Butten werfen.

¶ Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said, They shall thoroughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine; turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.

10 A ch, mit wem soll ich doch reden und zeugen? Daß doch jemand hören wollte! Aber ihre Ohren sind unbeschnitten; sie können's nicht hören. Siehe, sie halten des HERRN Wort für einen Spott und wollen es nicht.

To whom shall I speak, and give warning that they may hear? behold, their ears are uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken, behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.

11 D arum bin ich von des HERRN Drohen so voll, daß ich's nicht lassen kann. Schütte es aus über die Kinder auf der Gasse und über die Mannschaft im Rat miteinander; denn es sollen beide, Mann und Weib, Alte und der Wohlbetagte, gefangen werden.

Therefore I am full of the fury of the LORD; I have worked hard to hold myself in from pouring it out upon the children in the street, and upon the assembly of young men together; for the husband with the wife shall also be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.

12 I hre Häuser sollen den Fremden zuteil werden samt den Äckern und Weibern; denn ich will meine Hand ausstrecken, spricht der HERR, über des Landes Einwohner.

And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together; for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.

13 D enn sie geizen allesamt, klein und groß; und beide, Propheten und Priester, gehen allesamt mit Lügen um

For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them each one is given to greed; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one deals falsely.

14 u nd trösten mein Volk in seinem Unglück, daß sie es gering achten sollen, und sagen: "Friede! Friede!", und ist doch nicht Friede.

They treat also the destruction of the daughter of my people lightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.

15 D arum werden sie mit Schanden bestehen, daß sie solche Greuel treiben; wiewohl sie wollen ungeschändet sein und wollen sich nicht schämen. Darum müssen sie fallen auf einen Haufen; und wenn ich sie heimsuchen werde, sollen sie stürzen, spricht der HERR.

Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? no, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush; therefore, they shall fall among those that shall fall: at the time that I visit them they shall fall, saith the LORD.

16 S o spricht der HERR: Tretet auf die Wege und schauet und fraget nach den vorigen Wegen, welches der gute Weg sei, und wandelt darin, so werdet ihr Ruhe finden für eure Seele! Aber sie sprechen: Wir wollen's nicht tun!

Thus hath the LORD said, Stand ye in the ways and see and ask for the old paths, where the good way is and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

17 I ch habe Wächter über dich gesetzt: Merket auf die Stimme der Drommete! Aber sie sprechen: Wir wollen's nicht tun!

Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the shofar. But they said, We will not hearken.

18 D arum so höret, ihr Heiden, und merket samt euren Leuten!

¶ Therefore hear, ye Gentiles, and know, O congregation of Gentiles.

19 D u, Erde, höre zu! Siehe, ich will ein Unglück über dies Volk bringen, darum daß sie auf meine Worte nicht achten und mein Gesetz verwerfen.

Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts because they have not hearkened unto my words, and they hated my law.

20 W as frage ich nach Weihrauch aus Reicharabien und nach den guten Zimtrinden, die aus fernen Landen kommen? Eure Brandopfer sind mir nicht angenehm, und eure Opfer gefallen mir nicht.

To what purpose does this incense come to me from Sheba and the sweet cane from a far country? Your burnt offerings are not according to my will, nor are your sacrifices sweet unto me.

21 D arum spricht der HERR also: Siehe, ich will diesem Volk einen Anstoß in den Weg stellen, daran sich die Väter und Kinder miteinander stoßen und ein Nachbar mit dem andern umkommen sollen.

Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.

22 S o spricht der HERR: Siehe, es wird ein Volk kommen von Mitternacht, und ein großes Volk wird sich erregen vom Ende der Erde,

Thus hath the LORD said, Behold, a people come from the land of the north wind, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth.

23 d ie Bogen und Lanze führen. Es ist grausam und ohne Barmherzigkeit; sie brausen daher wie ein ungestümes Meer und reiten auf Rossen, gerüstet wie Kriegsleute, wider dich, du Tochter Zion.

They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and they shall have no mercy; their voice shall roar like the sea; and they shall ride upon horses set in array as men for war against thee, O daughter of Zion.

24 W enn wir von ihnen hören werden, so werden uns die Fäuste entsinken; es wird uns angst und weh werden wie einer Gebärerin.

We have heard the fame thereof; our hands wax feeble; anguish has taken hold of us, and pain as of a woman in travail.

25 E s gehe ja niemand hinaus auf den Acker, niemand gehe über Feld; denn es ist allenthalben unsicher vor dem Schwert des Feindes.

Do not go forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy and fear is on every side.

26 O Tochter meines Volks, zieh Säcke an und lege dich in Asche; trage Leid wie um einen einzigen Sohn und klage wie die, so hoch betrübt sind! denn der Verderber kommt über uns plötzlich.

O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth and wallow thyself in ashes; make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation; for the destroyer shall suddenly come upon us.

27 I ch habe dich zum Schmelzer gesetzt unter mein Volk, das so hart ist, daß du ihr Wesen erfahren und prüfen sollst.

I have set thee for a tower and a fortress among my people; thou shalt know and examine their way.

28 S ie sind allzumal Abtrünnige und wandeln verräterisch, sind Erz und Eisen; alle sind sie verderbt.

They are all rebellious princes; they walk with deception: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters.

29 D er Blasebalg ist verbrannt, das Blei verschwindet; das Schmelzen ist umsonst, denn das Böse ist nicht davon geschieden.

The bellows are burned; the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melts in vain; for the wicked are not plucked away.

30 D arum heißen sie auch ein verworfenes Silber; denn der HERR hat sie verworfen.

Reprobate silver shall men call them because the LORD has rejected them.
