1 U nd nun höre, Israel, die Gebote und Rechte, die ich euch lehre, daß ihr sie tun sollt, auf daß ihr lebt und hineinkommet und das Land einnehmet, das euch der HERR, eurer Väter Gott, gibt.

¶ Now, therefore, hear, O Israel, the statutes and the rights which I teach you, for in doing them ye shall live and go in and inherit the land which the LORD God of your fathers gives you.

2 I hr sollt nichts dazutun zu dem, was ich euch gebiete, und sollt auch nichts davontun, auf daß ihr bewahren möget die Gebote des HERRN, eures Gottes, die ich euch gebiete.

Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish anything from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

3 E ure Augen haben gesehen, was der HERR getan hat wider den Baal-Peor; denn alle, die dem Baal-Peor folgten, hat der HERR, dein Gott, vertilgt unter euch.

Your eyes have seen what the LORD did because of Baalpeor; for all the men that followed Baalpeor, the LORD thy God has destroyed them from among you.

4 A ber ihr, die ihr dem HERRN, eurem Gott, anhinget, lebt alle heutigestages.

But ye that did cleave unto the LORD your God are alive, every one of you this day.

5 S iehe, ich habe euch gelehrt Gebote und Rechte, wie mir der HERR, mein Gott, geboten hat, daß ihr also tun sollt in dem Lande, darein ihr kommen werdet, daß ihr's einnehmet.

Behold, I have taught you statutes and rights, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do thus in the midst of the land where ye are about to enter in to possess it.

6 S o behaltet's nun und tut es. Denn das wird eure Weisheit und Verstand sein bei allen Völkern, wenn sie hören werden alle diese Gebote, daß sie müssen sagen: Ei, welch weise und verständige Leute sind das und ein herrlich Volk!

Keep them, therefore, and do them, for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who shall hear all these statutes and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.

7 D enn wo ist so ein herrlich Volk, zu dem Götter also nahe sich tun als der HERR, unser Gott, so oft wir ihn anrufen?

For what nation is there so great who has God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?

8 U nd wo ist so ein herrlich Volk, das so gerechte Sitten und Gebote habe wie all dies Gesetz, daß ich euch heutigestages vorlege?

And what nation is there so great that has statutes and rights so just as all this law, which I set before you this day?

9 H üte dich nur und bewahre deine Seele wohl, daß du nicht vergessest der Geschichten, die deine Augen gesehen haben, und daß sie nicht aus deinem Herzen kommen all dein Leben lang. Und sollst deinen Kindern und Kindeskindern kundtun

Therefore, take heed to thyself and keep thy soul diligently lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life, but teach them to thy sons and thy sons’ sons.

10 d en Tag, da du vor dem HERRN, deinem Gott, standest am Berge Horeb, da der HERR zu mir sagte: Versammle mir das Volk, daß sie meine Worte hören und lernen mich fürchten alle ihre Lebtage auf Erden und lehren ihre Kinder.

The day that thou didst stand before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather the people together unto me, and I will make them hear my words that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth and that they may teach their sons.

11 U nd ihr tratet herzu und standet unten an dem Berge; der Berg brannte aber bis mitten an den Himmel, und war da Finsternis, Wolken und Dunkel.

And ye came near and stood under the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of the heavens, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness.

12 U nd der HERR redete mit euch mitten aus dem Feuer. Die Stimme seiner Worte hörtet ihr; aber keine Gestalt saht ihr außer der Stimme.

And the LORD spoke unto you out of the midst of the fire; ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no likeness; only ye heard a voice.

13 U nd er verkündigte euch seinen Bund, den er euch gebot zu tun, nämlich die Zehn Worte, und schrieb sie auf zwei steinerne Tafeln.

And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, the ten words; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.

14 U nd der HERR gebot mir zur selben Zeit, daß ich euch lehren sollte Gebote und Rechte, daß ihr darnach tätet in dem Lande, darein ihr ziehet, daß ihr's einnehmet.

And the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you the statutes and rights that ye might do them in the land which ye are about to enter to possess.

15 S o bewahret nun eure Seelen wohl, denn ihr habt keine Gestalt gesehen des Tages, da der HERR mit euch redete aus dem Feuer auf dem Berge Horeb,

Diligently guard, therefore, your souls, for ye saw no manner of likeness on the day that the LORD spoke unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire,

16 a uf daß ihr nicht verderbet und machet euch irgend ein Bild, das gleich sei einem Mann oder Weib

lest ye corrupt yourselves and make yourselves a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female,

17 o der Vieh auf Erden oder Vogel unter dem Himmel

the likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flies in the air,

18 o der Gewürm auf dem Lande oder Fisch im Wasser unter der Erde,

the likeness of any animal that moves on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth,

19 d aß du auch nicht deine Augen aufhebest gen Himmel und sehest die Sonne und den Mond und die Sterne, das ganze Heer des Himmels, und fallest ab und betest sie an und dienest ihnen, welche der HERR, dein Gott, verordnet hat allen Völkern unter dem ganzen Himmel.

And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun and the moon and the stars, even all the host of heaven, and should be driven to worship them and serve them because the LORD thy God has conceded them unto all the peoples under all the heavens.

20 E uch aber hat der HERR angenommen und aus dem eisernen Ofen, nämlich aus Ägypten, geführt, daß ihr sein Erbvolk sollt sein, wie es ist an diesem Tag.

But the LORD has taken you and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be unto him the people of his inheritance, as ye are this day.

21 U nd der HERR war so erzürnt über mich um eures Tuns willen, daß er schwur, ich sollte nicht über den Jordan gehen noch in das gute Land kommen, das dir der HERR, dein Gott, zum Erbteil geben wird,

Furthermore, the LORD was angry with me for your sakes and swore that I should not go over Jordan and that I should not go in unto that good land, which the LORD thy God gives thee for an inheritance.

22 s ondern ich muß in diesem Lande sterben und werde nicht über den Jordan gehen; ihr aber werdet hinübergehen und solch gutes Land einnehmen.

Therefore, I must die in this land and will not pass the Jordan, but ye shall pass and inherit that good land.

23 S o hütet euch nun, daß ihr des Bundes des HERRN, eures Gottes, nicht vergesset, den er mit euch gemacht hat, und nicht Bilder machet irgend einer Gestalt, wie der HERR, dein Gott, geboten hat.

Keep yourselves, do not forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he established with you, and make yourselves a graven image or the likeness of any thing, which the LORD thy God has forbidden thee.

24 D enn der HERR, dein Gott, ist ein verzehrendes Feuer und ein eifriger Gott.

For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

25 W enn ihr nun aber Kinder zeuget und Kindeskinder und im Lande wohnet und verderbt euch und machet euch Bilder irgend einer Gestalt, daß ihr übel tut vor dem HERRN, eurem Gott, und ihr ihn erzürnet:

When thou shalt beget children and grandchildren and ye shall have remained long in the land and shall corrupt yourselves and make a graven image or the likeness of any thing and shall do evil in the sight of the LORD thy God, to provoke him to anger,

26 s o rufe ich heutigestages über euch zu Zeugen Himmel und Erde, daß ihr werdet bald umkommen von dem Lande, in welches ihr gehet über den Jordan, daß ihr's einnehmet; ihr werdet nicht lange darin bleiben, sondern werdet vertilgt werden.

I put heaven and earth as witnesses today that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land unto which ye pass the Jordan to inherit it; ye shall not prolong your days upon it without being utterly destroyed.

27 U nd der HERR wird euch zerstreuen unter die Völker, und wird euer ein geringer Haufe übrig sein unter den Heiden, dahin euch der HERR treiben wird.

And the LORD shall scatter you among the peoples, and ye shall be left few in number among the Gentiles, unto whom the LORD shall take you.

28 D aselbst wirst du dienen den Göttern, die Menschenhände Werk sind, Holz und Stein, die weder sehen noch hören noch essen noch riechen.

And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

29 W enn du aber daselbst den HERRN, deinen Gott, suchen wirst, so wirst du ihn finden, wenn du ihn wirst von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele suchen.

But if from there, thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

30 W enn du geängstet sein wirst und dich treffen werden alle diese Dinge in den letzten Tage, so wirst du dich bekehren zu dem HERRN, deinem Gott, und seiner Stimme gehorchen.

When thou art in trouble and all these things are come upon thee, if in the latter days thou shalt turn to the LORD thy God and shalt hear his voice

31 D enn der HERR, dein Gott, ist ein barmherziger Gott; er wird dich nicht lassen noch verderben, wird auch nicht vergessen des Bundes, den er deinen Vätern geschworen hat.

(for the LORD thy God is a merciful God), he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he swore unto them.

32 D enn frage nach den vorigen Zeiten, die vor dir gewesen sind, von dem Tage an, da Gott den Menschen auf Erden geschaffen hat, von einem Ende des Himmels zum andern, ob je solch großes Ding geschehen oder desgleichen je gehört sei,

Ask, therefore, now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth and ask from the one side of heaven unto the other whether there has been any such thing as this great thing is, or has any other been heard like it?

33 d aß ein Volk Gottes Stimme gehört habe aus dem Feuer reden, wie du gehört hast, und dennoch lebest?

Have a people ever heard the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and lived?

34 o der ob Gott versucht habe hineinzugehen und sich ein Volk mitten aus einem Volk zu nehmen durch Versuchungen, durch Zeichen, durch Wunder, durch Streit und durch eine mächtige Hand und durch einen ausgestreckten Arm und durch sehr schreckliche Taten, wie das alles der HERR, euer Gott, für euch getan hat in Ägypten vor deinen Augen?

Or has God assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs and by wonders and by war and by a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

35 D u hast's gesehen, auf daß du wissest, daß der HERR allein Gott ist und keiner mehr.

Unto thee it was shown that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is no one else other than he.

36 V om Himmel hat er dich seine Stimme hören lassen, daß er dich züchtigte; und auf Erden hat er dir gezeigt sein großes Feuer, und seine Worte hast du aus dem Feuer gehört.

Out of the heavens he made thee to hear his voice that he might instruct thee, and upon earth he showed thee his great fire, and thou hast heard his words out of the midst of the fire.

37 D arum daß er deine Väter geliebt und ihren Samen nach ihnen erwählt hat, hat er dich ausgeführt mit seinem Angesicht durch sein große Kraft aus Ägypten,

And because he loved thy fathers, therefore, he chose their seed after them and brought thee out in his sight with his mighty power out of Egypt,

38 d aß er vertriebe vor dir her große Völker und stärkere, denn du bist, und dich hineinbrächte, daß er dir ihr Land gäbe zum Erbteil, wie es heutigestages steht.

to drive out Gentiles from before thee greater and mightier than thou art, to bring thee in, to give thee their land for an inheritance, as it is this day.

39 S o sollst du nun heutigestages wissen und zu Herzen nehmen, daß der HERR Gott ist oben im Himmel und unten auf Erden und keiner mehr;

Know therefore this day and consider it in thine heart that the LORD is the only God in heaven above and upon the earth beneath; there is no other.

40 d aß du haltest seine Rechte und Gebote, die ich dir heute gebiete: so wird dir's und deinen Kindern nach dir wohl gehen, daß dein Leben lange währe in dem Lande, das dir der HERR, dein Gott, gibt ewiglich.

Thou shalt keep, therefore, his statutes and his commandments which I command thee this day that it may go well with thee and with thy sons after thee and that thou may prolong thy days upon the land which the LORD thy God gives thee, for ever.

41 D a sonderte Mose drei Städte aus jenseit des Jordans, gegen der Sonne Aufgang,

¶ Then Moses separated three cities on this side of the Jordan toward the sunrising

42 d aß dahin flöhe, wer seinen Nächsten totschlägt unversehens und ihm zuvor nicht Feind gewesen ist; der soll in der Städte eine fliehen, daß er lebendig bleibe:

that the manslayer might flee there, who should kill his neighbour unawares and hated him not in times past and that fleeing unto one of these cities he might live:

43 B ezer in der Wüste im ebnen Lande unter den Rubenitern und Ramoth in Gilead unter den Gaditern und Golan in Basan unter den Manassitern.

Namely, Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain country, of the Reubenites, and Ramoth in Gilead, of the Gadites, and Golan in Bashan, of the Manassites.

44 D as ist das Gesetz, das Mose den Kindern Israel vorlegte.

And this is the law which Moses set before the sons of Israel.

45 D as sind die Zeugnisse und Gebote und Rechte, die Mose den Kindern Israel sagte, da sie aus Ägypten gezogen waren,

These are the testimonies and the statutes and the rights, which Moses spoke unto the sons of Israel after they came forth out of Egypt,

46 j enseit des Jordans, im Tal gegenüber Beth-Peor, im Lande Sihons, des Königs der Amoriter, der zu Hesbon saß, den Mose und die Kinder Israel schlugen, da sie aus Ägypten gezogen waren,

on this side of the Jordan, in the valley over against Bethpeor, in the land of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon, whom Moses and the sons of Israel smote after they were come forth out of Egypt;

47 u nd nahmen sein Land ein, dazu das Land Ogs, des Königs von Basan, der zwei Könige der Amoriter, die jenseit des Jordans waren, gegen der Sonne Aufgang,

and they possessed his land and the land of Og, king of Bashan, two kings of the Amorites, who were on this side of the Jordan toward the sunrising.

48 v on Aroer an, welches am Ufer liegt des Baches Arnon, bis an den Berg Sion, das ist der Hermon,

From Aroer, which is by the bank of the river Arnon, even unto Mount Sion, which is Hermon,

49 u nd alles Blachfeld jenseit des Jordans, gegen Aufgang der Sonne, bis an das Meer im Blachfelde, unten am Berge Pisga.

and all the plain on this side of the Jordan eastward, even unto the sea of the plain, under the springs of Pisgah.
