1 E in Armer, der in seiner Frömmigkeit wandelt, ist besser denn ein Verkehrter mit seinen Lippen, der doch ein Narr ist.

¶ Better is the poor that walks in his integrity than he that is perverse in his lips and is a fool.

2 W o man nicht mit Vernunft handelt, da geht's nicht wohl zu; und wer schnell ist mit Füßen, der tut sich Schaden.

¶ That the soul be without wisdom is not good, and he that hastens with his feet sins.

3 D ie Torheit eines Menschen verleitet seinen Weg, und doch tobt sein Herz wider den HERRN.

¶ The foolishness of man perverts his way, and his heart is wroth against the LORD.

4 G ut macht viele Freunde; aber der Arme wird von seinen Freunden verlassen.

¶ Wealth makes many friends, but the poor is separated from his neighbour.

5 E in falscher Zeuge bleibt nicht ungestraft; und wer Lügen frech redet, wird nicht entrinnen.

¶ A false witness shall not go unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall not escape.

6 V iele schmeicheln der Person des Fürsten; und alle sind Freunde des, der Geschenke gibt.

¶ Many will intreat the favour of the prince, but every man is a friend to him that gives.

7 D en Armen hassen alle seine Brüder; wie viel mehr halten sich seine Freunde von ihm fern! Und wer sich auf Worte verläßt, dem wird nichts.

All the brethren of the poor hate him; how much more shall his friends separate themselves from him? He shall seek their friendship and not find it.

8 W er klug wird, liebt sein Leben; und der Verständige findet Gutes.

¶ He that gets wisdom loves his own soul; he keeps intelligence that he might find that which is good.

10 D em Narren steht nicht wohl an, gute Tage haben, viel weniger einem Knecht, zu herrschen über Fürsten.

¶ Delight is not suitable for a fool; much less for a slave to have rule over princes.

11 W er geduldig ist, der ist ein kluger Mensch, und ist ihm eine Ehre, daß er Untugend überhören kann.

¶ The discretion of a man defers his anger, and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

12 D ie Ungnade des Königs ist wie das Brüllen eines jungen Löwen; aber seine Gnade ist wie der Tau auf dem Grase.

¶ The king’s wrath is as the roaring of a lion, but his favour is as dew upon the grass.

13 E in törichter Sohn ist seines Vaters Herzeleid, und ein zänkisches Weib ein stetiges Triefen.

¶ A foolish son is a pain unto his father, and the contentions of a wife are a continual dripping.

14 H aus und Güter vererben die Eltern; aber ein vernünftiges Weib kommt vom HERRN.

¶ House and riches are the inheritance from fathers, but the prudent wife is from the LORD.

15 F aulheit bringt Schlafen, und eine lässige Seele wird Hunger leiden.

¶ Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep, and the negligent soul shall suffer hunger.

16 W er das Gebot bewahrt, der bewahrt sein Leben; wer aber seines Weges nicht achtet, wird sterben.

¶ He that keeps the commandment keeps his own soul, but he that despises his ways shall die.

17 W er sich des Armen erbarmt, der leihet dem HERRN; der wird ihm wieder Gutes vergelten.

¶ He that gives unto the poor lends unto the LORD, and he will give him his reward.

18 Z üchtige deinen Sohn, solange Hoffnung da ist; aber laß deine Seele nicht bewegt werden, ihn zu töten.

¶ Chasten thy son while there is hope, but do not stir up thy soul to destroy him.

19 G roßer Grimm muß Schaden leiden; denn willst du ihm steuern, so wird er noch größer.

¶ A man of great wrath shall suffer the consequences, for even if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.

20 G ehorche dem Rat, und nimm Zucht an, daß du hernach weise seiest.

¶ Hear counsel, and receive chastening that thou may be wise in thy old age.

21 E s sind viel Anschläge in eines Mannes Herzen; aber der Rat des HERRN besteht.

¶ There are many thoughts in the heart of man; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD shall stand.

22 E in Mensch hat Lust an seiner Wohltat; und ein Armer ist besser denn ein Lügner.

¶ Contentment is unto men to show mercy, but it is better to do it unto the poor than to the liar.

23 D ie Furcht des HERRN fördert zum Leben, und wird satt bleiben, daß kein Übel sie heimsuchen wird.

¶ The fear of the LORD is unto life, and he that has it shall live satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

24 D er Faule verbirgt seine Hand im Topf und bringt sie nicht wieder zum Munde.

¶ The slothful man hides his hand in his bosom and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

25 S chlägt man den Spötter, so wird der Unverständige klug; straft man einen Verständigen, so wird er vernünftig.

¶ Smite a scorner, and the simple will become prudent, and reproving one that has understanding, he will understand knowledge.

26 W er Vater verstört und Mutter verjagt, der ist ein schändliches und verfluchtes Kind.

¶ He that steals from his father and chases away his mother is a son that causes shame and brings reproach.

27 L aß ab, mein Sohn, zu hören die Zucht, und doch abzuirren von vernünftiger Lehre.

¶ Cease, my son, to hear the teaching that induces one to deviate from the reasons of wisdom.

28 E in loser Zeuge spottet des Rechts, und der Gottlosen Mund verschlingt das Unrecht.

¶ A witness of Belial shall scorn judgment, and the mouth of the wicked shall cover iniquity.

29 D en Spöttern sind Strafen bereitet, und Schläge auf der Narren Rücken.

¶ Judgments are prepared for scorners and stripes for the back of fools.
