1 Л іпший убогий, що ходить в своїй неповинності, ніж лукавий устами та нерозумний.

¶ Better is the poor that walks in his integrity than he that is perverse in his lips and is a fool.

2 Т еж не добра душа без знання, а хто наглить ногами, спіткнеться.

¶ That the soul be without wisdom is not good, and he that hastens with his feet sins.

3 Г лупота людини дорогу її викривляє, і на Господа гнівається її серце.

¶ The foolishness of man perverts his way, and his heart is wroth against the LORD.

4 М аєток примножує друзів численних, а від бідака відпадає й товариш його...

¶ Wealth makes many friends, but the poor is separated from his neighbour.

5 С відок брехливий не буде без кари, а хто брехні говорить, не буде врятований.

¶ A false witness shall not go unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall not escape.

6 Б агато-хто годять тому, хто гостинці дає, і кожен товариш людині, яка не скупиться на дари.

¶ Many will intreat the favour of the prince, but every man is a friend to him that gives.

7 Б ідаря ненавидять всі браття його, а тимбільш його приятелі відпадають від нього; а коли за словами поради женеться, нема їх!

All the brethren of the poor hate him; how much more shall his friends separate themselves from him? He shall seek their friendship and not find it.

8 Х то ума набуває, кохає той душу свою, а хто розум стереже, той знаходить добро.

¶ He that gets wisdom loves his own soul; he keeps intelligence that he might find that which is good.

9 С відок брехливий не буде без кари, хто ж неправду говорить, загине.

¶ The false witness shall not go unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall perish.

10 Н е лицює пишнота безумному, тим більше рабові панувати над зверхником.

¶ Delight is not suitable for a fool; much less for a slave to have rule over princes.

11 Р озум людини припинює гнів її, а величність її перейти над провиною.

¶ The discretion of a man defers his anger, and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

12 Г нів царя немов рик левчука, а ласкавість його як роса на траву.

¶ The king’s wrath is as the roaring of a lion, but his favour is as dew upon the grass.

13 С ин безумний погибіль для батька свого, а жінка сварлива як ринва, що з неї вода тече завжди.

¶ A foolish son is a pain unto his father, and the contentions of a wife are a continual dripping.

14 Х ата й маєток спадщина батьків, а жінка розумна від Господа.

¶ House and riches are the inheritance from fathers, but the prudent wife is from the LORD.

15 Л інощі сон накидають, і лінива душа голодує.

¶ Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep, and the negligent soul shall suffer hunger.

16 Х то заповідь охороняє, той душу свою стереже; хто дороги свої легковажить, помре.

¶ He that keeps the commandment keeps his own soul, but he that despises his ways shall die.

17 Х то милостивий до вбогого, той позичає для Господа, і чин його Він надолужить йому.

¶ He that gives unto the poor lends unto the LORD, and he will give him his reward.

18 К артай свого сина, коли є надія навчити, та забити його не піднось свою душу.

¶ Chasten thy son while there is hope, but do not stir up thy soul to destroy him.

19 Л юдина великого гніву хай кару несе, бо якщо ти врятуєш її, то вчиниш ще гірше.

¶ A man of great wrath shall suffer the consequences, for even if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.

20 С лухай ради й картання приймай, щоб мудрим ти став при своєму кінці.

¶ Hear counsel, and receive chastening that thou may be wise in thy old age.

21 У серці людини багато думок, але виповниться тільки задум Господній.

¶ There are many thoughts in the heart of man; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD shall stand.

22 З добуток людині то милість її, але ліпший бідар за людину брехливу.

¶ Contentment is unto men to show mercy, but it is better to do it unto the poor than to the liar.

23 С трах Господній веде до життя, і хто його має, той ситим ночує, і зло не досягне його.

¶ The fear of the LORD is unto life, and he that has it shall live satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

24 У миску стромляє лінюх свою руку, до уст же своїх не підійме її.

¶ The slothful man hides his hand in his bosom and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

25 Я к битимеш нерозважного, то помудріє й немудрий, а будеш розумного остерігати, то він зрозуміє поуку.

¶ Smite a scorner, and the simple will become prudent, and reproving one that has understanding, he will understand knowledge.

26 Х то батька грабує, хто матір жене? Це син, що застиджує та осоромлює,

¶ He that steals from his father and chases away his mother is a son that causes shame and brings reproach.

27 п ерестань же, мій сину, навчатися від нерозумних, щоб відступитися від слів знання!

¶ Cease, my son, to hear the teaching that induces one to deviate from the reasons of wisdom.

28 С відок нікчемний висміює суд, а уста безбожних вибризкують кривду.

¶ A witness of Belial shall scorn judgment, and the mouth of the wicked shall cover iniquity.

29 Н а насмішників кари готові постійно, і вдари на спину безумним.

¶ Judgments are prepared for scorners and stripes for the back of fools.
