1 А ну ж тепер ви, багачі, плачте й ридайте над лихом своїм, що вас має спіткати:

¶ Come now, Oh ye rich, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

2 в аше багатство згнило, а ваші вбрання міль поїла!

Your riches are rotten, and your garments are motheaten.

3 З олото ваше та срібло поіржавіло, а їхня іржа буде свідчити проти вас, і поїсть ваше тіло, немов той огонь! Ви скарби зібрали собі на останні дні!

Your gold and silver is corrupted with rust; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you and shall completely eat your flesh, as fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

4 О сь голосить заплата, що ви затримали в робітників, які жали на ваших полях, і голосіння женців досягли вух Господа Саваота!

Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped your fields (which you have kept back by fraud) cries out; and the cries of those who have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of the hosts.

5 В и розкошували на землі й насолоджувались, серця свої вигодували, немов би на день заколення.

Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth and been wanton; ye have refreshed your hearts, as in the day of slaughter of sacrifices.

6 В и Праведного засудили й убили, Він вам не противився!

Ye have condemned and murdered the just, and he does not resist you.

7 О тож, браття, довготерпіть аж до приходу Господа! Ось чекає рільник дорогоцінного плоду землі, довготерпить за нього, аж поки одержить дощ ранній та пізній.

Be patient, therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently until it receives the early and latter rain.

8 Д овготерпіть же й ви, зміцніть серця ваші, бо наблизився прихід Господній!

Be ye also patient and confirm your hearts, for the coming of the Lord draws near.

9 Н е нарікайте один на одного, браття, щоб вас не засуджено, он Суддя стоїть перед дверима!

Complain not one against another, brethren, that ye not be condemned: behold, the judge stands before the door.

10 В ізьміть, браття, пророків за приклад страждання та довготерпіння, вони промовляли Господнім Ім'ям!

Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

11 О тож, за блаженних ми маємо тих, хто витерпів. Ви чули про Йовове терпіння та бачили Господній кінець його, що вельми Господь милостивий та щедрий.

Behold, we count blessed those who endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job and have seen the end of the Lord, that the Lord is very merciful, and full of compassion.

12 А найперше, браття мої, не кляніться ні небом, ані землею, і ніякою іншою клятвою! Слово ж ваше хай буде: Так, так та Ні, ні, щоб не впасти вам в осуд.

¶ But above all things, my brethren, do not swear by heaven or by the earth or by any other oath, but let your yes be yes and your no, no; lest ye fall into condemnation.

13 Ч и страждає хто з вас? Нехай молиться! Чи тішиться хтось? Хай співає псалми!

Is anyone among you afflicted? let them pray. Is anyone happy? let them sing.

14 Ч и хворіє хто з вас? Хай покличе пресвітерів Церкви, і над ним хай помоляться, намастивши його оливою в Господнє Ім'я,

Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the congregation; and let them pray for him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord;

15 і молитва віри вздоровить недужого, і Господь його підійме, а коли він гріхи був учинив, то вони йому простяться.

and the prayer of faith shall cause the one who is sick to be saved, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he shall be forgiven them.

16 О тже, признавайтесь один перед одним у своїх прогріхах, і моліться один за одного, щоб вам уздоровитись. Бо дуже могутня ревна молитва праведного!

Confess your faults one to another and pray one for another that ye may be whole. The effectual prayer of the righteous is very powerful.

17 І лля був людина, подібна до нас пристрастями, і він помолився молитвою, щоб дощу не було, і дощу не було на землі аж три роки й шість місяців...

Elijah was a man subject to passions like unto ours, and he asked in prayer that it might not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months.

18 І він знов помолився, і дощу дало небо, а земля вродила свій плід!

And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

19 Б раття мої, коли хто з-поміж вас заблудить від правди, і його хто наверне,

Brethren, if any of you have erred from the truth, and someone should convert him;

20 х ай знає, що той, хто грішника навернув від його блудної дороги, той душу його спасає від смерти та безліч гріхів покриває!

let that one know, that whosoever causes the sinner to convert from the error of his way shall save a soul from death and shall cover a multitude of sins.
