1 І почув Пашхур, Іммерів син, священик, що був старшим наглядачем, начальник Господнього дому, Єремію, що пророкував ці слова.

¶ And Pashur the priest, the son of Immer, who presided as prince in the house of the LORD, heard Jeremiah who prophesied these things.

2 І Пашхур набив пророка Єремію, і посадив його у в'язницю, що була в горішній брамі Веніяминовій, що в Господньому домі...

Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet and put him in the stocks that were at the gate of Benjamin on the high place, which is in the house of the LORD.

3 І сталося наступного дня, і вивів Пашхур Єремію з в'язниці, а Єремія промовив до нього: Не Пашхур Господь дав ім'я тобі, а тільки Маґор-Міссавів.

And it came to pass on the morrow that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then Jeremiah said unto him: The LORD has not called thy name Pashur, but Magormissabib.

4 Б о так промовляє Господь: Ось Я зроблю тебе жахом для тебе самого та для всіх твоїх приятелів, і вони попадають від меча ворогів своїх, а очі твої будуть бачити це. А всього Юду віддам у руку царя вавилонського, і він нажене їх до Вавилону, і позабиває їх мечем.

For thus hath the LORD said, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself and to all those that love thee well; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it; and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall smite them with the sword.

5 І дам увесь скарб цього міста та ввесь його здобуток, і всю коштовність його, та всі скарби юдських царів, усе це дам у руку їхніх ворогів, і вони пограбують їх, і візьмуть їх та й відведуть їх до Вавилону...

Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city and all its labours and all its precious things and all the treasures of the kings of Judah I will give into the hand of their enemies, who shall spoil them and take them and carry them to Babylon.

6 А ти, Пашхуре, та всі мешканці дому твого підете до полону. І прийдеш ти до Вавилону, і помреш там, і будеш похований ти та всі твої приятелі, яким ти неправдиво пророкував.

And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in thine house shall go into captivity; and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die and shalt be buried there, thou and all those who love thee well, unto whom thou hast prophesied with lies.

7 Н амовляв мене, Господи, і був я намовлений, Ти взяв міцно мене й переміг! Я став цілий день посміховищем, кожен глузує із мене...

¶ O LORD, thou hast seduced me, and I was seduced; thou wert stronger than I and hast overcome me; I am in derision daily; every one mocks me.

8 Б о коли тільки я говорю, то кричу, кличу: Ґвалт! та Грабіж! і так сталося слово Господнє мені цілий день за ганьбу й посміховище...

For since I spoke out, I raised my voice crying, Violence and destruction; because the word of the LORD has been a reproach unto me and a derision, daily.

9 І я був сказав: Не буду Його споминати, і не буду вже Йменням Його говорити! І стало це в серці моїм, як огонь той палючий, замкнений у костях моїх, і я змучивсь тримати його й більш не можу!

And I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But he was in my heart as a burning fire and within my bones; I tried to forbear, and I could not.

10 Б о чув я обмову численних, ось острах навколо: Розкажіть, донесемо на нього! Кожен муж, який в мирі зо мною, чатує мого упадку та каже: Може буде обманений і переможемо його, і помстимося над ним!

For I heard the murmuring of many, fear on every side, Report, and we will report it. All my friends watched to see if I would stumble. Peradventure he will deceive himself, they said, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.

11 Т а зо мною Господь, як потужний силач, тому ті, хто женеться за мною, спіткнуться та не переможуть! Будуть сильно вони посоромлені, бо робили без розуму, вічний сором їм буде, який не забудеться!

But the LORD is with me as a powerful giant; therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper; they shall have everlasting confusion which shall never be forgotten.

12 А Господь Саваот випробовує праведного, бачить нирки та серце. Хай над ними побачу я помсту Твою, бо Тобі я відкрив свою справу!

O LORD of the hosts, who examines that which is just, who seest the kidneys and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them; for unto thee I have opened my cause.

13 С півайте пісні Господеві, усі хваліть Господа, бо спасає Він душу убогого від руки лиходіїв!

Sing unto the LORD, praise ye the LORD; for he has delivered the soul of the poor from the hand of evildoers.

14 П роклятий той день, коли я народився, день, коли породила мене моя мати, хай благословенний не буде!

¶ Cursed be the day in which I was born; do not let the day in which my mother bore me be blessed.

15 П роклятий той муж, який сповістив мого батька, говорячи: Народилось тобі дитя-хлопець, а тим справді потішив його!

Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A man child is born unto thee; making him very glad.

16 І бодай стався муж той, немов ті міста, що Господь зруйнував й не пожалував їх, і нехай чує крик він уранці, а лемент військовий у часі полудня,

And let that man be as the cities which the LORD overthrew and did not repent; and let him hear the cry in the morning and the shouting at noontide

17 з а те, що в утробі мене не забив, і тоді була б стала мені моя мати за гріб мій, а утроба її вагітною навіки була б!...

because he did not slay me in the womb, and my mother would have been my grave, and her womb perpetual conception.

18 Ч ого то з утроби я вийшов, щоб бачити клопіт й скорботу, і нащо кінчаються в соромі ці мої дні?...

Why did I come forth out of the womb? To see labour and sorrow that my days should be consumed with shame?
