1 ( 21-37) Коли хто вкраде вола або овечку, і заріже його або продасть його, то відшкодує п'ять штук великої худоби за вола того, а чотири дрібної худоби за ту овечку.

¶ If a man shall steal an ox or a sheep and kill it or sell it he shall restore five oxen for an ox and four sheep for a sheep.

2 ( 22-1) Коли злодій буде зловлений в підкопі, і буде побитий так, що помре, то нема провини крови на тому, хто побив.

If a thief is found breaking into a house and is smitten so he dies, he that killed him shall not be guilty of his blood.

3 ( 22-2) Але як засвітило сонце над ним, то є на ньому провина крови. Злодій конче відшкодує, а якщо він нічого не має, то буде проданий за свою крадіжку.

If the sun is risen upon him, he that killed him is guilty of his blood; the thief should make full restitution; if he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

4 ( 22-3) Якщо та крадіжка справді буде знайдена в руці його живою, від вола аж до осла, до ягняти, то нехай відшкодує удвоє.

If he is found with the theft in his hand, whether it be ox or ass or sheep, he shall restore double.

5 ( 22-4) Коли хто випасе поле або виноградника, і пустить свою худобу й буде випасати на чужому полі, відшкодує найліпшим із поля свого й найліпшим із свого виноградника.

If a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten and shall put in his beast and shall feed in another man’s field; of the best of his own field and of the best of his own vineyard shall he make restitution.

6 ( 22-5) Коли вийде огонь і попаде на тернину, і буде спалена скирта, або збіжжя стояче, або поле, конче відшкодує той, хто запалив пожежу.

When fires are lit and in burning the thorns burn also the stacks of sheaves or the standing grain, or the field is consumed; he that kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.

7 ( 22-6) Коли хто дасть своєму ближньому срібло або посуд на збереження, а воно буде вкрадене з дому того чоловіка, якщо буде знайдений злодій, нехай відшкодує вдвоє.

¶ When a man shall deliver unto his neighbour money or stuff to keep, and it is stolen out of the man’s house; if the thief is found, let him pay double.

8 ( 22-7) Якщо ж злодій не буде знайдений, то власник дому буде приведений до суддів, на присягу, що не простягав своєї руки на працю свого ближнього.

If the thief is not found, then the master of the house shall be brought unto the judges to see whether he has put his hand unto his neighbour’s goods.

9 ( 22-8) У кожній справі провини, про вола, про осла, про овечку, про одіж, про все згублене, про яке хто скаже, що це його, нехай справа обох прийде до судді. Кого суддя визнає за винного, той відшкодує вдвоє своєму ближньому.

For all manner of fraud, whether it be for an ox, for an ass, for a sheep, for raiment, or for any manner of lost thing, which another challenges to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the judges; and whom the judges shall condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbour.

10 ( 22-9) Коли хто дасть своєму ближньому на збереження осла, або вола, або овечку, чи яку іншу худобину, а вона згине, або буде скалічена, або буде заграбована, і ніхто того не бачив,

If a man delivers unto his neighbour an ass or an ox or a sheep or any beast to keep, and it dies or is hurt or driven away, no man seeing it,

11 ( 22-10) присяга Господня нехай буде між обома, що він не простяг своєї руки на власність свого ближнього, а власник її нехай забере, а позваний не буде відшкодувати.

then shall an oath of the LORD be between them both, that he has not put his hand unto his neighbour’s goods, and the owner of it shall accept thereof, and he shall not make it good.

12 ( 22-11) А якщо справді буде вкрадена від нього, то нехай відшкодує власникові її.

And if it is stolen from him, he shall make restitution unto its owner.

13 ( 22-12) Якщо дійсно буде розшарпана вона, нехай принесе її як свідоцтво, а за розшарпане він не відшкодує.

If it is torn in pieces, then let him bring witness, and he shall not make good that which was torn.

14 ( 22-13) А коли хто позичить від свого ближнього худобину, а вона буде скалічена або згине, а власник її не був із нею, то конче відшкодує;

And if anyone borrows anything of his neighbour, and it is hurt or dies, its owner not being with it, he shall surely make it good.

15 ( 22-14) якщо ж її власник був із нею, не відшкодує. А якщо худобина була найнята, то піде та шкода в заплату її.

But if its owner is with it, he shall not make it good; if it was hired, it came for its hire.

16 ( 22-15) А коли хто підмовить дівчину, яка не заручена, і ляже з нею, то нехай дасть їй віно, і візьме її собі за жінку.

¶ If a man should entice a virgin that is not betrothed and lie with her, he shall surely endow her and take her to be his wife.

17 ( 22-16) Якщо батько її справді відмовить віддати її йому, нехай відважить срібла згідно з віном дівочим.

If her father utterly refuses to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

18 ( 22-17) Чарівниці не зоставиш при житті.

Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

19 ( 22-18) Кожен, хто зляжеться з худобиною, конче буде забитий.

Whoever lies with a beast shall surely be put to death.

20 ( 22-19) Кожен, хто приносить жертву богам, крім Бога Одного, підпадає закляттю.

He that sacrifices unto any god, except unto the LORD only, he shall be utterly destroyed.

21 ( 22-20) А приходька не будеш утискати та гнобити його, бо й ви були приходьками в єгипетськім краї.

Thou shalt neither mistreat a stranger nor oppress him; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

22 ( 22-21) Жодної вдови та сироти не будеш гнобити;

Ye shall not afflict any widow or fatherless child.

23 ( 22-22) якщо ж ти справді гнобитимеш їх, то коли вони, кличучи, кликатимуть до Мене, то конче почую їхній зойк,

If thou afflict them in any manner, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry;

24 ( 22-23) і розпалиться гнів Мій, і повбиваю вас мечем, і стануть жінки ваші вдовами, а діти ваші сиротами.

and my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

25 ( 22-24) Якщо позичиш гроші народові Моєму, бідному, що з тобою, то не будь йому, як суворий позичальник, не покладеш на нього лихви.

¶ If thou should lend money to my people, to the poor who is with thee, thou shalt not be to him as a usurer, neither shalt thou lay upon him usury.

26 ( 22-25) Якщо дійсно візьмеш у заставу одежу ближнього свого, то вернеш її йому до заходу сонця,

If thou at all take thy neighbour’s clothing as a pledge, thou shalt deliver it unto him before the sun goes down;

27 ( 22-26) бо вона єдине накриття його, вона одіж на тіло його; на чому він буде лежати? І станеться, коли буде він кликати до Мене, то почую, бо Я милосердний.

for only that is his covering, it is his clothing to cover his flesh, in which he must sleep; and it shall come to pass, when he cries unto me, that I will hear, for I am merciful.

28 ( 22-27) Бога не будеш лихословити, а начальника в народі твоїм не будеш проклинати.

Thou shalt not revile the judges nor curse the prince of thy people.

29 ( 22-28) Не будеш спізнюватися, щодо жертов, із щедрістю збіжжя та з плинами твоїми. Перворідного з синів своїх даси Мені.

Thou shalt not delay to offer the first of thy ripe fruits and of thy liquors; the firstborn of thy sons shalt thou give unto me.

30 ( 22-29) Так зробиш волові своєму, і дрібній худобі своїй: сім день буде вона з своєю матір'ю, а восьмого дня даси її Мені.

Likewise shalt thou do with thine oxen and with thy sheep; seven days it shall be with his dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it to me.

31 ( 22-30) І ви будете Мені святими людьми, і не будете їсти м'яса, розшарпаного в полі, псові кинете його!

And ye shall be holy men unto me; neither shall ye eat any flesh that is torn of beasts in the field; ye shall cast it to the dogs.
