1 І спочив Йосафат із своїми батьками. І був він похований із своїми батьками в Давидовому Місті, а замість нього зацарював син його Єгорам.

¶ Now Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram, his son, reigned in his stead.

2 І були в нього брати, Йосафатові сини: Азарія, і Єхіїл, і Захарій, і Азарія, і Михаїл, і Шефатія, усі вони сини Йосафата, Ізраїлевого царя.

And he had brethren, sons of Jehoshaphat, Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariah, Michael, and Shephatiah; all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat, king of Israel.

3 І дав їм їхній батько великі подарунки срібла, і золота, і коштовності з твердинними містами в Юді, а царство дав Єгорамові, бо він первороджений.

And their father had given them great gifts of silver and of gold and of precious things, with fenced cities in Judah, but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram because he was the firstborn.

4 І став Єгорам на царстві батька. І зміцнився він, і позабивав усіх братів своїх мечем, а також декого з Ізраїлевих зверхників.

Now Jehoram rose up against the kingdom of his father, and he strengthened himself and slew all his brethren with the sword and likewise some of the princes of Israel.

5 Є горам був віку тридцяти й двох літ, коли зацарював, і царював вісім літ в Єрусалимі.

Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

6 І ходив він дорогою Ізраїлевих царів, як робив Ахавів дім, бо Ахавова дочка була йому за жінку. І робив він зло в Господніх очах.

And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house of Ahab, for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife; and he wrought that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD.

7 Т а не хотів Господь погубити Давидів дім ради заповіту, що склав був із Давидом, і як говорив дати світильника йому та синам його по всі дні.

However, the LORD would not destroy the house of David because of the covenant that he had made with David and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever.

8 З а його днів відпав був Едом з-під Юдиної руки, і настановили над собою царя.

In his days Edom rebelled from under the dominion of Judah and made themselves a king.

9 І пішов Єгорам зо своїми зверхниками, і всі колесниці з ним. І сталося, що він устав уночі та й побив Едома, що оточив був його, та зверхників колесниць.

Then Jehoram went forth with his princes and all his chariots with him, and he rose up by night and smote Edom who had compassed him in and all the captains of the chariots.

10 І відпав Едом з-під Юдиної руки, і так є аж до цього дня. Тоді того часу відпала й Лівна з-під руки його, бо він покинув Господа, Бога своїх батьків.

With all this Edom remained in rebellion, out from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Libnah also rebelled at the same time to not be under his hand because he had forsaken the LORD God of his fathers.

11 Т акож він наробив пагірків по Юдиних містах, і вчинив перелюбами єрусалимських мешканців, а Юду звів.

Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication and compelled Judah unto this.

12 І прийшов до нього лист від пророка Іллі такого змісту: Так говорить Господь, Бог Давида, твого батька: За те, що не ходив ти дорогами Йосафата, свого батька, і дорогами Аси, Юдиного царя,

¶ And a writing came to him from Elijah, the prophet, that said this: Thus hath the LORD, the God of David, thy father, said, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father nor in the ways of Asa, king of Judah,

13 а ходив дорогою Ізраїлевого царя, і вчинив перелюбниками Юду та мешканців Єрусалиму, як чинив перелюбниками дім Ахавів, а також братів своїх, дім свого батька, ліпших від тебе, ти позабивав,

but hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fornicate, like unto the fornication of the house of Ahab, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father’s house, who were better than thyself,

14 т о ось ударить Господь великою поразою в народі твоїм, і в синах твоїх, і в жінках твоїх, і в усьому маєтку твоєму.

behold, the LORD shall smite thy people with a great plague, and thy sons and thy wives and all thy goods;

15 А ти будеш у великих хворобах, у хворобі нутра свого, аж вийдуть нутрощі твої через довгочасну хворобу.

and thou shalt have great sickness, with disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.

16 І збудив Господь на Єгорама духа филистимлян та арабів, що при етіопах.

Then the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines and of the Arabians, that were near the Ethiopians;

17 І вийшли вони на Юду, і ввірвалися до нього, і позабирали ввесь маєток, що знаходився в царському домі, а також синів його та жінок його. І не позосталося в нього сина, окрім Єгоахаза, наймолодшого з синів його.

and they came up against Judah and invaded the land and carried away all the substance that was found in the king’s house, and his sons also and his wives so that none of his sons remained except Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.

18 А по всьому тому вдарив його Господь у нутрощах його невидужною хворобою.

And after all this the LORD smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease.

19 І сталося по певному часі, коли надійшов кінець двох років, вийшли його нутрощі від хвороби його, і він помер у тяжких болях. А народ його не зробив для нього спалення пахощів, як робили спалення батькам його.

And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness; so he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like they had done for his fathers.

20 В ін був віку тридцяти й двох літ, коли зацарював, а царював вісім літ в Єрусалимі. І відійшов він, і ніхто за ним не жалував; і поховали його в Давидовому Місті, та не в царських гробах.

He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years and departed without being desired. And they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.
