1 О тже, будьте наслідувачами Богові, як улюблені діти,

¶ Be ye therefore imitators of God, as dear children

2 і поводьтеся в любові, як і Христос полюбив вас, і видав за нас Самого Себе, як дар і жертву Богові на приємні пахощі.

and walk in charity even as the Christ also has loved us and has given himself for us as an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.

3 А розпуста та нечисть усяка й зажерливість нехай навіть не згадуються поміж вами, як личить святим,

¶ But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not be once named among you as becomes saints,

4 і гидота, і марнословство або жарти, що непристойні вам, але краще дякування.

neither dishonest words nor foolishness nor low jesting, which are not convenient, but rather giving of thanks.

5 З найте бо це, що жаден розпусник, чи нечистий, або зажерливий, що він ідолянин, не має спадку в Христовому й Божому Царстві!

For this ye know, that no fornicator nor unclean person nor covetous man, who is also an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

6 Н ехай вас не зводить ніхто словами марнотними, бо гнів Божий приходить за них на неслухняних,

Let no one deceive you with vain words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

7 т ож не будьте їм спільниками!

Be not ye, therefore, partakers with them.

8 В и бо були колись темрявою, тепер же ви світло в Господі, поводьтеся, як діти світла,

For in another time ye were darkness, but now ye are light in the Lord: walk as children of light;

9 б о плід світла знаходиться в кожній добрості, і праведності, і правді.

(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth),

10 Д опевняйтеся, що приємне для Господа,

approving what is well pleasing unto the Lord.

11 і не беріть участи в неплідних ділах темряви, а краще й докоряйте.

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

12 Б о соромно навіть казати про те, що роблять вони потаємно!

For it is a shame even to speak of those things which they do in secret.

13 У се ж те, що світлом докоряється, стає явне, бо все, що явне стає, то світло.

But all these things when they are reproved by the light are made manifest, for the light is that which manifests everything.

14 Ч ерез це то й говорить: Сплячий, вставай, і воскресни із мертвих, і Христос освітлить тебе!

Therefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest and arise from the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee.

15 О тож, уважайте, щоб поводитися обережно, не як немудрі, але як мудрі,

See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

16 в икористовуючи час, дні бо лукаві!

redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

17 Ч ерез це не будьте нерозумні, але розумійте, що є воля Господня.

Therefore, be ye not unwise, but understanding of what the will of the Lord is.

18 І не впивайтесь вином, в якому розпуста, але краще наповнюйтесь Духом,

And be not drunk with wine, in which there is excess, but be filled with the Spirit,

19 р озмовляючи поміж собою псалмами, і гімнами, і піснями духовними, співаючи й граючи в серці своєму для Господа,

speaking among yourselves with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and praising the Lord in your hearts,

20 д якуючи завжди за все Богові й Отцеві в Ім'я Господа нашого Ісуса Христа,

giving thanks always for all things unto the God and Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

21 к орячися один одному у Христовім страху.

¶ submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

22 Д ружини, коріться своїм чоловікам, як Господеві,

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husband, as unto the Lord.

23 б о чоловік голова дружини, як і Христос Голова Церкви, Сам Спаситель тіла!

For the husband is the head of the wife even as the Christ is head of the congregation, and it is he who gives saving health to the body.

24 І як кориться Церква Христові, так і дружини своїм чоловікам у всьому.

Therefore, as the congregation is subject unto the Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

25 Ч оловіки, любіть своїх дружин, як і Христос полюбив Церкву, і віддав за неї Себе,

Husbands, love your wives even as the Christ also loved the congregation and gave himself for her,

26 щ об її освятити, очистивши водяним купелем у слові,

that he might sanctify and cleanse her in the washing of water by the word,

27 щ об поставити її Собі славною Церквою, що не має плями чи вади, чи чогось такого, але щоб була свята й непорочна!

that he might present her glorious for himself, a congregation, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.

28 Ч оловіки повинні любити дружин своїх так, як власні тіла, бо хто любить дружину свою, той любить самого себе.

So ought husbands to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loves his wife loves himself.

29 Б о ніколи ніхто не зненавидів власного тіла, а годує та гріє його, як і Христос Церкву,

For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it even as the Lord with his congregation:

30 б о ми члени Тіла Його від тіла Його й від костей Його!

For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

31 П окине тому чоловік батька й матір, і пристане до дружини своєї, і будуть обоє вони одним тілом.

For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother and shall be joined unto his wife, and they shall be two in one flesh.

32 Ц я таємниця велика, а я говорю про Христа та про Церкву!

This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the congregation.

33 О тже, нехай кожен зокрема із вас любить так свою дружину, як самого себе, а дружина нехай боїться свого чоловіка!

Nevertheless, let each one of you do likewise, let each one so love his wife even as himself, and let the wife see that she reverences her husband.
