1 К оли Господь, Бог твій, повигублює народи, що Господь, Бог твій, дає тобі їхній Край, і ти повиганяєш їх, і осядеш по їхніх містах та по їхніх домах,

¶ When the LORD thy God has cut off the Gentiles whose land the LORD thy God gives thee, and thou hast inherited them and dost dwell in their cities and in their houses,

2 т о три місті відділиш собі в середині свого Краю, що Господь, Бог твій, дає його тобі на володіння.

thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the LORD thy God gives thee to inherit.

3 П риготуєш собі дорогу, і поділиш натроє землю твого Краю, що Господь, Бог твій, дає тобі на спадок, і це буде на втікання туди кожного убійника.

Thou shalt prepare thee a way and divide the borders of thy land, which the LORD thy God gives thee to inherit, into three parts, so that every manslayer may flee there.

4 А оце справа убійника, що втече туди й буде жити: хто вб'є свого ближнього ненароком, а він не був ворогом його від учора й позавчора;

And this is the case of the manslayer who is to flee there, that he may live: whoever kills his neighbour by mistake, whom he hated not in time past;

5 а бо хто ввійде з своїм ближнім до лісу рубати дерева, і розмахнеться рука його з сокирою, щоб зрубати дерево, а залізо спаде з топорища й попаде в його ближнього, і той помре, то він утече до одного з тих міст, і буде жити,

and he who went into the woods with his neighbour to cut firewood and his hand fetched a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree and the head slipped from the handle and lighted upon his neighbour so that he died, he shall flee unto one of those cities and live,

6 щ об не гнався месник за кров за убійником, коли розпалиться серце його, і щоб не догнав його, якщо буде довга та дорога, і не вбив його, хоч він не підлягає смерті, бо не був він ворогом його від учора й позавчора.

lest the avenger of the blood pursue the manslayer, while his heart is hot and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him, whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.

7 Т ому то я наказую тобі, говорячи: Три місті відділиш собі.

Therefore, I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thee.

8 А якщо Господь, Бог твій, розширить границю твою, як присягнув був батькам твоїм, і дасть тобі всю оцю землю, що говорив був дати батькам твоїм,

And if the LORD thy God enlarges thy borders, as he has sworn unto thy fathers, and gives thee all the land which he was to give unto thy fathers,

9 к оли ти будеш додержувати всі ці заповіді, щоб виконувати їх, що я наказую тобі сьогодні, щоб любити Господа, Бога свого, і щоб ходити дорогами Його всі дні, то додаси собі ще три місті понад ті три,

when thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day: to love the LORD thy God, and to walk all the days in his ways, then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, besides these three,

10 щ об не була пролита неповинна кров серед твого Краю, що Господь, Бог твій, дає тобі на спадок, і не буде на тобі кров.

that innocent blood not be shed in thy land, which the LORD thy God gives thee for an inheritance, and the blood shall not be upon thee.

11 А коли хто буде ненавидіти свого ближнього, і буде чатувати на нього, і повстане на нього та й уб'є його, і той помре, і втече він до одного з тих міст,

But when any man hates his neighbour and lies in wait for him and rises up against him and smites him mortally that he dies and flees into one of these cities,

12 т о пошлють старші його міста, і візьмуть його звідти, і дадуть його в руку месника крови, і він помре.

then the elders of his city shall send and take him from there and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, and he shall die.

13 Н е змилосердиться око твоє над ним, і ти усунеш кров неповинного з Ізраїля, і буде добре тобі.

Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel that it may go well with thee.

14 Н е пересунеш межі свого ближнього, яку розмежували предки в наділі твоїм, яке посядеш ти в Краю, що Господь, Бог твій, дає його тобі на володіння.

¶ Thou shalt not reduce thy neighbour’s border, which those of old time have marked in thine inheritance, which thou shalt possess in the land that the LORD thy God gives thee to inherit.

15 Н е стане один свідок на кого для всякої провини і для всякого гріха, у кожнім гріху, що згрішить, на слова двох свідків або на слова трьох свідків відбудеться справа.

One witness shall not be valid against a man for any iniquity or for any sin, in any sin which he should commit. At the mouth of two witnesses or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

16 К оли стане на кого неправдивий свідок, щоб свідчити проти нього підступно,

When a false witness rises up against any man to testify rebellion against him,

17 т о стануть двоє цих людей, що мають суперечку, перед лицем Господнім, перед священиками та суддями, що будуть у тих днях.

then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges, who shall be in those days;

18 І судді добре дослідять, а ось свідок неправдивий той свідок, неправду говорив на брата свого,

and the judges shall make diligent inquisition; and, behold, if the witness is a false witness and has testified falsely against his brother,

19 т о зробите йому так, як він замишляв був зробити своєму братові, і вигубиш зло з-посеред себе.

then shall ye do unto him as he had thought to have done unto his brother; so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.

20 А позосталі будуть слухати, і будуть боятися, і більш вже не будуть робити серед себе такого, як та річ зла.

And those who remain shall hear and fear and shall never again commit any such evil among you.

21 І не змилосердиться око твоє: життя за життя, око за око, зуб за зуба, рука за руку, нога за ногу.

And thine eye shall not pity, but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
