1 І говорив Елігу та й сказав:

¶ Furthermore, Elihu answered and said,

2 С лухайте, мудрі, слова ці мої, ви ж, розважні, почуйте мене!

Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.

3 Б о ухо слова випробовує, а піднебіння їжу куштує.

For the ear tries words, as the mouth tastes food.

4 В иберім право собі, між собою пізнаймо, що добре.

Let us choose our judgment; let us know among ourselves what is good.

5 Б о Йов говорив: Я був справедливий, та відкинув Бог право моє.

For Job has said, I am righteous; and God has taken away my right.

6 Ч и буду неправду казати за право своє? Без вини небезпечна стріла моя...

In my judgment he was a liar, my arrow wound is grievous without my having committed a transgression.

7 Ч и є такий муж, як цей Йов, що п'є глузування, як воду,

What man is like Job, who drinks up the scorn like water?

8 і товаришує з злочинцями, і ходить з людьми беззаконними?

Who goes in company with the workers of iniquity, and walks with wicked men.

9 Б о він каже: Нема людині користи, коли її Бог уподобає.

For he said, It shall profit a man nothing that he should conform his will with God.

10 Т ож вислухайте, ви розумні, мене: Бог далекий від несправедливости, і Всемогутній від кривди!

¶ Therefore, hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

11 Б о за чином людини Він їй надолужить, і згідно з своєю дорогою знайде людина заплату!

For he shall pay man according to his work and cause every man to find according to his ways.

12 Т ож поправді, не чинить Бог несправедливого, і Всемогутній не скривлює права.

Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.

13 Х то землю довірив Йому, і хто на Нього вселенну поклав?

Who visited the earth for him? And who set the whole world in order?

14 К оли б Він до Себе забрав Своє серце, Свій дух, і Свій подих до Себе забрав,

If he were to set his heart upon man and gather unto himself his spirit and his breath,

15 в сяке тіло погинуло б вмить, а людина повернулася б на порох!...

all flesh would perish together, and man would turn again unto dust.

16 К оли маєш ти розум, послухай же це, почуй голос оцих моїх слів:

¶ If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.

17 Х іба стримувати може ненависник право? І хіба осудити ти зможеш Всеправедного?

Shall even he that hates judgment govern? And wilt thou condemn the Mighty One that is righteous?

18 Х іба можна сказати цареві: Негідний, а вельможним: Безбожний?

Is it fit to say to the king, Thou art of Belial and to the princes, Ye are ungodly?

19 Т аж Він не звертає уваги на зверхників, і не вирізнює можного перед убогим, бо всі вони чин Його рук,

How much less to him who is not a respecter of the persons of princes, nor respects the rich more than the poor; for they all are the work of his hands.

20 з а хвилину вони помирають, опівночі... Доторкнеться Він можних і гинуть вони, сильний усунений буде рукою не людською.

In a moment they shall die, and the peoples shall be troubled at midnight and shall pass away; and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.

21 Б о очі Його на дорогах людини, і Він бачить всі кроки її,

For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he sees all his steps.

22 н емає темноти, немає і темряви, де б злочинці сховались.

There is no darkness nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

23 Б о людині Він не призначає означений час, щоб ходила до Бога на суд.

For he will not lay upon man more than that which is just; that he should enter into judgment with God.

24 В ін сильних ламає без досліду, і ставить на місце їх інших.

He shall break in pieces mighty men without number and set others in their stead.

25 Б ож знає Він їхні діла, оберне вночі і почавлені будуть!

Therefore, he shall cause their works to be notorious, when he shall overturn them in the night, so that they are destroyed.

26 Я к несправедливих уразить Він їх, на видному місці,

He shall strike them as wicked men in the open sight of others

27 з а те, що вони відступили від Нього, і не розуміли доріг Його всіх,

because thus they turned back from him and would not consider any of his ways

28 щ об зойк сіромахи спровадити до Нього, бо Він чує благання пригнічених.

so that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he hears the cry of the afflicted.

29 К оли Він заспокоїть, то хто винуватити буде? Коли Він закриє лице, хто побачить Його? А це робиться і над народом, і над людиною разом,

When he gives rest, who then can make trouble? If he hides his face, who then can behold him? This applies to a nation and the same to a man,

30 щ об не панував чоловік нечестивий із тих, що правлять за пастку народові.

that the hypocrite not reign, lest the people be ensnared.

31 Б о Богові треба отак говорити: Несу я заслужене, злого робити не буду!

¶ For it is of God to say, I have forgiven, I will no longer destroy.

32 Ч ого я не бачу, навчи Ти мене; коли кривду зробив я, то більше не буду чинити!

Teach me that which I do not see; if I have done iniquity, I will do it no more.

33 Ч и на думку твою надолужить Він це, бо відкинув ти те? Бо вибереш ти, а не я, а що знаєш, кажи!

Will he, perchance finish his work by thee; whether thou refuse or whether thou choose, or by me? Speak what thou knowest.

34 М ені скажуть розумні та муж мудрий, який мене слухає:

The men of understanding will say as I say, and the wise man will hearken unto me.

35 Й ов говорить немудро, а слова його без розуміння.

Job has spoken without knowledge, and his words were without prudence.

36 О , коли б Йов досліджений був аж навіки за відповіді, як злі люди,

My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end, that there may be answers against wicked men.

37 б о він додає до свойого гріха ще провину, між нами він плеще в долоні та множить на Бога промови свої...

For he added rebellion unto his sin, he claps his hands among us and multiplies his words against God.
