1 Б рати мої, не зважаючи на обличчя, майте віру в нашого Господа слави, Ісуса Христа.

¶ My brethren, do not have the faith of our Lord Jesus, the glorious Christ, with respect of persons.

2 Б о коли до вашого зібрання ввійде чоловік із золотим перснем, у шаті блискучій, увійде й бідар у вбогім вбранні,

For if a man with a gold ring and in precious apparel comes into your synagogue and a poor person in vile raiment also comes in,

3 і ви поглянете на того, хто в шаті блискучій, і скажете йому: Ти сідай вигідно отут, а бідареві прокажете: Ти стань там, чи сідай собі тут на підніжку моїм,

and ye have respect to him that wears the precious clothing and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there or sit here under my footstool:

4 т о чи не стало між вами поділення, і не стали ви злодумними суддями?

Are ye not then judging in yourselves and are become judges of evil thoughts?

5 П ослухайте, мої брати любі, чи ж не вибрав Бог бідарів цього світу за багатих вірою й за спадкоємців Царства, яке обіцяв Він тим, хто любить Його?

Hearken, my beloved brethren, Has not God chosen the poor of this world that they might be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to those that love him?

6 А ви бідаря зневажили! Хіба не багачі переслідують вас, хіба не вони тягнуть вас на суди?

But ye have despised the poor. Do not the rich oppress you with tyranny and draw you with violence to the courts?

7 Х іба не вони зневажають те добре ім'я, що ви ним називаєтесь?

Do they not blaspheme that worthy name by which ye are called?

8 К оли ви Закона Царського виконуєте, за Писанням: Люби свого ближнього, як самого себе, то ви робите добре.

¶ If ye truly fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well;

9 К оли ж дивитеся на обличчя, то чините гріх, бо Закон удоводнює, що ви винуватці.

but if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin and are accused of the law as rebels.

10 Б о хто всього Закона виконує, а згрішить в одному, той винним у всьому стає.

For whosoever shall have kept the whole law, and then offends in one point is made guilty of all.

11 Б о Той, Хто сказав: Не чини перелюбства, також наказав: Не вбивай. А хоч ти перелюбства не чиниш, а вб'єш, то ти переступник Закону.

For he that said, Thou shalt not commit adultery, said also, Thou shalt not murder. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou commit murder, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

12 О так говоріть і отак чиніть, як такі, що будете суджені законом волі.

So speak ye and so do as those that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

13 Б о суд немилосердний на того, хто не вчинив милосердя. Милосердя бо ставиться вище за суд.

For judgment without mercy shall be done unto the one that has shown no mercy; and mercy boasts against judgment.

14 Я ка користь, брати мої, коли хто говорить, що має віру, але діл не має? Чи може спасти його віра?

¶ My brethren, What shall it profit though someone says that they have faith and do not have works? Shall this type of faith be able to save them?

15 К оли ж брат чи сестра будуть нагі, і позбавлені денного покорму,

If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,

16 а хтонебудь із вас до них скаже: Ідіть з миром, грійтесь та їжте, та не дасть їм потрібного тілу, що ж то поможе?

and one of you says unto them, Depart in peace; be ye warmed and filled; but ye do not give them those things which are needful for the body; what shall it profit them?

17 Т ак само й віра, коли діл не має, мертва в собі!

Even so faith, if it does not have works, is dead in and of itself.

18 А ле скаже хтонебудь: Маєш ти віру, а я маю діла; покажи мені віру свою без діл твоїх, а я покажу тобі віру свою від діл моїх.

But someone may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works; show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.

19 Ч и віруєш ти, що Бог один? Добре робиш! Та й демони вірують, і тремтять.

Thou believest that God is one; thou doest well; the demons also believe and tremble.

20 Ч и хочеш ти знати, о марна людино, що віра без діл мертва?

But, O vain man, dost thou desire to know that faith without works is dead?

21 А враам, отець наш, чи він не з діл виправданий був, як поклав був на жертівника свого сина Ісака?

Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar?

22 Ч и ти бачиш, що віра помогла його ділам, і вдосконалилась віра із діл?

Dost thou not see how the faith worked together with his works, and the faith was complete by the works?

23 І здійснилося Писання, що каже: Авраам же ввірував Богові, і це йому зараховане в праведність, і був названий він другом Божим.

And that the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness, and he was called the Friend of God.

24 О тож, чи ви бачите, що людина виправдується від діл, а не тільки від віри?

Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not only by faith.

25 Ч и так само і блудниця Рахав не з діл виправдалась, коли прийняла посланців, і дорогою іншою випустила?

Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?

26 Б о як тіло без духа мертве, так і віра без діл мертва!

For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
