1 ¶ Hermanos míos, no tengáis la fe de nuestro Señor, Jesús el Cristo glorioso, en acepción de personas.

¶ My brethren, do not have the faith of our Lord Jesus, the glorious Christ, with respect of persons.

2 P orque si en vuestra sinagoga entra algún varón que trae anillo de oro, vestido de preciosa ropa, y también entra un pobre vestido de vestidura vil,

For if a man with a gold ring and in precious apparel comes into your synagogue and a poor person in vile raiment also comes in,

3 y tuviereis respeto al que trae la vestidura preciosa, y le dijereis: Siéntate tú aquí bien; y dijereis al pobre: Estate tú allí en pie, o siéntate aquí debajo de mi estrado;

and ye have respect to him that wears the precious clothing and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there or sit here under my footstool:

4 ¿ vosotros no juzgáis en vosotros mismos, y sois hechos jueces de pensamientos malos?

Are ye not then judging in yourselves and are become judges of evil thoughts?

5 H ermanos míos amados, oíd: ¿No ha elegido Dios los pobres de este mundo, para que sean ricos en fe, y herederos del Reino que prometió a los que le aman?

Hearken, my beloved brethren, Has not God chosen the poor of this world that they might be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to those that love him?

6 M as vosotros habéis afrentado al pobre. ¿No os oprimen los ricos con tiranía, y ellos os llevan con violencia a los juzgados?

But ye have despised the poor. Do not the rich oppress you with tyranny and draw you with violence to the courts?

7 ¿ No blasfeman ellos el buen nombre que es invocado sobre vosotros?

Do they not blaspheme that worthy name by which ye are called?

8 ¶ Si en verdad cumplís vosotros la ley real, conforme a la Escritura: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo, bien hacéis;

¶ If ye truly fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well;

9 p ero si hacéis acepción de personas, cometéis pecado, y sois acusados de la ley como rebeldes.

but if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin and are accused of the law as rebels.

10 P orque cualquiera que hubiere guardado toda la ley, y ofendiere en un punto, es hecho culpable de todos.

For whosoever shall have kept the whole law, and then offends in one point is made guilty of all.

11 P orque el que dijo: No cometerás adulterio; también ha dicho: No cometerás homicidio. Y, si no hubieres cometido adulterio, pero hubieres cometido homicidio, ya eres hecho transgresor de la Ley.

For he that said, Thou shalt not commit adultery, said also, Thou shalt not murder. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou commit murder, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

12 A sí hablad, y así obrad, como los que habéis de ser juzgados por la ley de la libertad.

So speak ye and so do as those that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

13 P orque juicio sin misericordia será hecho con aquel que no hiciere misericordia; y la misericordia se gloría contra el juicio.

For judgment without mercy shall be done unto the one that has shown no mercy; and mercy boasts against judgment.

14 ¶ Hermanos míos, ¿qué aprovechará si alguno dice que tiene fe, y no tiene las obras? ¿Por ventura esta tal fe le podrá salvar?

¶ My brethren, What shall it profit though someone says that they have faith and do not have works? Shall this type of faith be able to save them?

15 Y si el hermano o la hermana están desnudos, y tienen necesidad del mantenimiento de cada día,

If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,

16 y alguno de vosotros les dice: Id en paz, calentaos y saciaos, pero no les diereis las cosas que son necesarias para el cuerpo, ¿qué les aprovechará?

and one of you says unto them, Depart in peace; be ye warmed and filled; but ye do not give them those things which are needful for the body; what shall it profit them?

17 A sí también la fe, si no tuviere las obras, es muerta en sí misma.

Even so faith, if it does not have works, is dead in and of itself.

18 M as alguno dirá: Tú tienes la fe, y yo tengo las obras; muéstrame tu fe sin tus obras, y yo te mostraré mi fe por mis obras.

But someone may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works; show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.

19 T ú crees que Dios es uno; bien haces. También los demonios creen, y tiemblan.

Thou believest that God is one; thou doest well; the demons also believe and tremble.

20 ¿ Mas oh hombre vano, quieres saber que la fe sin obras es muerta?

But, O vain man, dost thou desire to know that faith without works is dead?

21 ¿ No fue justificado por las obras Abraham nuestro Padre, cuando ofreció a su hijo Isaac sobre el altar?

Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar?

22 ¿ No ves que la fe obró con sus obras, y que la fe fue completa por las obras?

Dost thou not see how the faith worked together with his works, and the faith was complete by the works?

23 ¿ Y que la Escritura fue cumplida, que dice: Abraham creyó a Dios, y le fue imputado a justicia, y fue llamado amigo de Dios?

And that the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness, and he was called the Friend of God.

24 V osotros veis, pues, que el hombre es justificado por las obras, y no solamente por la fe.

Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not only by faith.

25 A simismo también Rahab la ramera, ¿no fue justificada por obras, cuando recibió los mensajeros, y los echó fuera por otro camino?

Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?

26 P orque como el cuerpo sin espíritu está muerto, así también la fe sin obras está muerta.

For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
