1 Y aconteció que, cuando quiso el SEÑOR alzar a Elías en el torbellino al cielo, Elías venía con Eliseo de Gilgal.

¶ And it came to pass, when the LORD would take Elijah up into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

2 Y dijo Elías a Eliseo: Quédate ahora aquí, porque el SEÑOR me ha enviado a Bet-el. Y Eliseo dijo: Vive el SEÑOR, y vive tu alma, que no te dejaré. Descendieron, pues, a Bet-el.

And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD has sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, As the LORD lives and as thy soul lives, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel.

3 Y saliendo a Eliseo los hijos de los profetas que estaban en Bet-el, le dijeron: ¿Sabes cómo el SEÑOR quitará hoy a tu señor de tu cabeza? Y él dijo: Sí, yo lo sé; callad.

And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head today? And he said, Yes, I know it; be silent.

4 Y Elías le volvió a decir: Eliseo, quédate aquí ahora, porque el SEÑOR me ha enviado a Jericó. Y él dijo: Vive el SEÑOR, y vive tu alma, que no te dejaré. Vinieron, pues, a Jericó.

And Elijah said unto him again, Elisha, tarry here, for the LORD has sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the LORD lives and as thy soul lives, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.

5 Y se acercaron a Eliseo los hijos de los profetas que estaban en Jericó, y le dijeron: ¿Sabes cómo el SEÑOR quitará hoy a tu señor de tu cabeza? Y él respondió: Sí, yo lo sé; callad.

And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head today? And he answered, Yes, I know it; be silent.

6 Y Elías le dijo: Te ruego que te quedes aquí, porque el SEÑOR me ha enviado al Jordán. Y él dijo: Vive el SEÑOR, y vive tu alma, que no te dejaré. Y así fueron los dos.

And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here, for the LORD has sent me to the Jordan. And he said, As the LORD lives and as thy soul lives, I will not leave thee. And thus the two went on.

7 Y vinieron cincuenta varones de los hijos de los profetas, y se pararon enfrente a lo lejos; y ellos dos se pararon junto al Jordán.

And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went and stood in front of them afar off; and the two of them stood by the Jordan.

8 T omando entonces Elías su manto, lo dobló, e hirió las aguas, las cuales se apartaron a uno y a otro lado, y pasaron ambos en seco.

And Elijah took his mantle and wrapped it together and smote the waters, and they separated to one side and the other so that they both went over on dry ground.

9 Y cuando pasaron, Elías dijo a Eliseo: Pide lo que quieres que haga por ti, antes que sea quitado de ti. Y dijo Eliseo: Te ruego que una doble medida de tu espíritu sea sobre mí.

¶ And when they had gone over, Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee before I am taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.

10 Y él le dijo: Cosa difícil has pedido. Si me vieres cuando fuere quitado de ti, te será hecho así; mas si no, no.

And he said, Thou hast asked a difficult thing. If thou shalt see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee, but if not, it shall not be so.

11 Y aconteció que, yendo ellos hablando, he aquí, un carro de fuego con caballos de fuego apartó a los dos; y Elías subió al cielo en un torbellino.

And it came to pass, as they still went on and talked, that, behold, a chariot of fire with horses of fire separated the two, and Elijah went up into heaven in a whirlwind.

12 Y viéndolo Eliseo, clamaba: ¡Padre mío, padre mío, carro de Israel y su gente de a caballo! Y nunca más le vio, y trabando de sus vestidos, los rompió en dos partes.

And as Elisha saw it, he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more, and he took hold of his own clothes and rent them in two pieces.

13 Y alzando el manto de Elías que se le había caído, volvió, y se paró a la orilla del Jordán.

¶ And lifting up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, he went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan.

14 ¶ Y tomando el manto de Elías que se le había caído, hirió las aguas, y dijo: ¿Dónde está el SEÑOR Dios de Elías? Y cuando hirió las aguas, se apartaron a uno y a otro lado, y pasó Eliseo.

And taking up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, he smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? And when he smote the waters, they separated to one side and the other, and Elisha went over.

15 Y viéndole los hijos de los profetas que estaban en Jericó al otro lado, dijeron: El espíritu de Elías reposó sobre Eliseo. Y vinieron a recibirle, y se inclinaron delante de él hasta la tierra.

And seeing him, the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho said, The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha. And they came to meet him and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

16 Y le dijeron: He aquí hay con tus siervos cincuenta varones fuertes; vayan ahora y busquen a tu señor; por ventura lo ha levantado el espíritu del SEÑOR, y lo ha echado en algún monte o en algún valle. Y él les dijo: No enviéis.

And they said unto him, Behold now, there are fifty strong men with thy slaves; let them go and seek thy master; peradventure the Spirit of the LORD has taken him up and cast him upon some mountain or into some valley. And he said, Do not send them.

17 M as ellos le importunaron, hasta que avergonzándose, dijo: Enviad. Entonces ellos enviaron cincuenta hombres, los cuales lo buscaron tres días, mas no lo hallaron.

But when they urged him until he was ashamed, he said, Send. They sent therefore fifty men, and they sought him three days, but did not find him.

18 Y cuando volvieron a él, que se había quedado en Jericó, él les dijo: ¿No os dije yo que no fuerais?

And when they came again to him (for he tarried at Jericho), he said unto them, Did I not tell you to not go?

19 Y los hombres de la ciudad dijeron a Eliseo: He aquí el asiento de esta ciudad es bueno, como mi señor ve; mas las aguas son malas, y la tierra enferma.

¶ And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, the seat of this city is good, as my lord sees, but the water is evil, and the ground barren.

20 E ntonces él dijo: Traedme una botija nueva, y poned en ella sal. Y se la trajeron.

Then he said, Bring me a new cruse and put salt in it. And they brought it to him.

21 Y saliendo él a los manaderos de las aguas, echó dentro la sal, y dijo: Así ha dicho el SEÑOR: Yo sané estas aguas, y no habrá más en ellas muerte ni enfermedad.

And he went forth unto the springs of the waters and cast the salt in there and said, Thus hath the LORD said, I have healed these waters; there shall be no more death or barrenness in them.

22 Y fueron sanas las aguas hasta hoy, conforme a la palabra que habló Eliseo.

So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the word which Elisha spoke.

23 ¶ Después subió de allí a Bet-el; y subiendo por el camino, salieron los jóvenes de la ciudad, y se burlaban de él, diciendo: ¡Calvo, sube! ¡calvo, sube!

Then he went up from there unto Bethel, and as he was going up by the way, the young men of the city came forth and mocked him, saying, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head.

24 Y mirando él atrás, los vio, y los maldijo en el nombre del SEÑOR. Y salieron dos osos del monte, y despedazaron de ellos cuarenta y dos muchachos.

And he turned back and looked on them and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And two bears came forth out of the forest and tore apart forty-two young men of them.

25 D e allí fue al monte del Carmelo, y de allí volvió a Samaria.

And he went from there to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.
