1 ¶ Y vino David a Nob, a Ahimelec sacerdote; y Ahimelec salió a recibirlo con miedo, y le dijo: ¿Cómo vienes tú solo, y nadie contigo?

¶ Then David came to Nob to Ahimelech, the priest, and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no one with thee?

2 Y respondió David al sacerdote Ahimelec: El rey me encomendó un negocio, y me dijo: Nadie sepa cosa alguna de este negocio a que yo te envío, y que yo te he mandado; y yo les señalé a los criados un cierto lugar.

And David said unto Ahimelech, the priest, The king has commanded me a business and has said unto me, Let no one know anything of this business about which I send thee and what I have commanded thee, and I have appointed my servants to a certain place.

3 A hora, pues, ¿qué tienes a mano? Dame cinco panes en mi mano, o lo que se hallare.

Now, therefore, what is under thy hand? Give me five loaves of bread in my hand or what there is present.

4 Y el sacerdote respondió a David, y dijo: No tengo pan común a la mano; solamente tengo pan sagrado; mas lo daré si los criados se han guardado a lo menos de mujeres.

And the priest answered David and said, There is no common bread under my hand; there is only sacred bread, which I will give thee if the young men have kept themselves at least from women.

5 Y David respondió al sacerdote, y le dijo: Cierto las mujeres nos han sido vedadas desde ayer y desde anteayer cuando salí, y los vasos de los mozos fueron santos, aunque el camino es profano; cuanto más que hoy será santificado con los vasos.

And David answered the priest and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us since yesterday and the day before yesterday since I came out, and the vessels of the young men were holy although the way is profane; how much more that today it shall be sanctified with the vessels.

6 A sí el sacerdote le dio el pan sagrado, porque allí no había otro pan que los panes de la proposición, los cuales habían sido quitados de delante del SEÑOR, para que se pusieran panes calientes el día que los otros fueron quitados.

So the priest gave him the sacred bread, for there was no bread there but the showbread that had been taken from before the LORD to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

7 A quel día estaba allí uno de los siervos de Saúl cumpliendo algún voto delante del SEÑOR, el nombre del cual era Doeg, idumeo, principal de los pastores de Saúl.

Now a certain man of the slaves of Saul was there that day, fulfilling a vow before the LORD, and his name was Doeg, an Edomite, the principal of the pastors of Saul.

8 Y David dijo a Ahimelec: ¿No tienes aquí a mano lanza o espada? Porque no tomé en mi mano mi espada ni mis armas, por cuanto el mandamiento del rey era apremiante.

And David said unto Ahimelech, And is there not here under thy hand a spear or a sword? For I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me because the king’s business required haste.

9 Y el sacerdote respondió: La espada de Goliat el filisteo, que tú venciste en el valle del Alcornoque, está aquí envuelta en un velo detrás del efod; si tú quieres tomarla, tómala; porque aquí no hay otra sino esa. Y dijo David: No hay otra tal; dámela.

And the priest replied, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou didst overcome in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a veil behind the ephod; if thou wilt take that, take it, for there is none other except that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it to me.

10 ¶ Y levantándose David aquel día, huyó de la presencia de Saúl, y se fue a Aquis rey de Gat.

¶ And David arose and fled that day from the presence of Saul and went to Achish, the king of Gath.

11 Y los siervos de Aquis le dijeron: ¿No es éste David, el rey de la tierra? ¿No es éste a quien cantaban en los corros, diciendo: Hirió Saúl sus miles, y David sus diez miles?

And the slaves of Achish said unto him, Is this not David, the king of the land? Did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul has slain his thousands and David his ten thousands?

12 Y David puso en su corazón estas palabras, y tuvo gran temor de Aquis rey de Gat.

And David laid up these words in his heart and was sore afraid of Achish, the king of Gath.

13 Y mudó su habla delante de ellos, y fingió ser demente entre las manos de ellos, y escribía en las portadas de las puertas, dejando correr su saliva por su barba.

And he changed his behaviour before them and feigned himself a fool in their hands and scrabbled on the doors of the gate and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.

14 Y dijo Aquis a sus siervos: He aquí, estáis viendo un hombre demente; ¿por qué lo habéis traído a mí?

Then Achish said unto his slaves, Behold, ye see the man is mad; why then have ye brought him to me?

15 ¿ Acaso me faltan dementes, para que hayáis traído éste que hiciera locuras delante de mí? ¿había de venir éste a mi casa?

Have I need of mad men that ye have brought this fellow to play the mad man in my presence? Shall this fellow come into my house?
