1 ¶ Y llegaron los hijos de Israel, toda la congregación, al desierto de Zin, en el mes primero, y reposó el pueblo en Cades; y allí murió María, y allí fue sepultada.

¶ Then came the sons of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month; and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there and was buried there.

2 Y no hubo agua para la congregación, se juntaron contra Moisés y Aarón.

And there was no water for the congregation; and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.

3 Y riñó el pueblo con Moisés, y hablaron diciendo: ¡Mejor que nosotros hubiéramos muerto cuando perecieron nuestros hermanos delante del SEÑOR!

And the people contended with Moses and spoke, saying, Oh, that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!

4 Y ¿por qué hiciste venir la congregación del SEÑOR a este desierto, para que muramos aquí nosotros y nuestras bestias?

And why have ye caused the congregation of the LORD to come into this wilderness that we and our beasts should die here?

5 ¿ Y por qué nos has hecho venir de Egipto, a este mal lugar? No es lugar de sementera, de higueras, de viñas, ni granadas; ni aun hay agua para beber.

And why have ye made us to come up out of Egypt to bring us in unto this evil place? It is not a place to plant seed or of figs or of vines or of pomegranates; there is not even any water to drink.

6 Y se fueron Moisés y Aarón de delante de la congregación a la puerta del tabernáculo del testimonio, y se postraron sobre sus rostros; y la gloria del SEÑOR apareció sobre ellos.

And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the congregation unto the door of the tabernacle of the testimony, and they fell upon their faces; and the glory of the LORD appeared upon them.

7 Y habló el SEÑOR a Moisés, diciendo:

And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,

8 T oma la vara y reúne la congregación, tú y Aarón tu hermano, y hablad a la peña en ojos de ellos; y ella dará su agua, y les sacarás aguas de la peña, y darás de beber a la congregación, y a sus bestias.

Take the rod and gather the congregation together, thou and Aaron, thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes, and it shall give forth its water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock; so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.

9 E ntonces Moisés tomó la vara de delante del SEÑOR, como él le mandó.

Then Moses took the rod from before the LORD as he commanded him.

10 Y juntaron Moisés y Aarón a la congregación delante de la peña, y les dijo: Oíd ahora, rebeldes; ¿os hemos de hacer salir aguas de esta peña?

And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?

11 E ntonces alzó Moisés su mano, e hirió la peña con su vara dos veces; y salieron muchas aguas, y bebió la congregación, y sus bestias.

Then Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice; and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

12 Y el SEÑOR dijo a Moisés y a Aarón: Por cuanto no creísteis en mí, para santificarme en ojos de los hijos de Israel, por tanto, no meteréis esta congregación en la tierra que les he dado.

And the LORD spoke unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore, ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

13 E stas son las aguas de Meriba (la rencilla), por las cuales riñeron los hijos de Israel con el SEÑOR, y él se santificó en ellos.

These are the waters of Meribah; over which the sons of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.

14 ¶ Y envió Moisés embajadores al rey de Edom desde Cades, diciendo: Así dice Israel tu hermano: Tú has sabido todo el trabajo que nos ha venido;

¶ And Moses sent ambassadors from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that has befallen us:

15 c ómo nuestros padres descendieron a Egipto, y estuvimos en Egipto largo tiempo, y los egipcios nos maltrataron, y a nuestros padres;

how our fathers went down into Egypt, and we were in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians mistreated us and our fathers;

16 y clamamos al SEÑOR, el cual oyó nuestra voz, y envió un ángel, y nos sacó de Egipto; y he aquí estamos en Cades, ciudad al extremo de tu término.

and we cried unto the LORD, who heard our voice, and sent an angel and has brought us forth out of Egypt; and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city on the edge of thy border.

17 T e rogamos que pasemos por tu tierra; no pasaremos por labranza, ni por viña, ni beberemos agua de pozos; por el camino real iremos, sin apartarnos a diestra ni a siniestra, hasta que hayamos pasado tu término.

Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country; we will not pass through the fields or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells; we will go by the king’s high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left until we have passed thy borders.

18 Y Edom le respondió: No pasarás por mi país, de otra manera, saldré contra ti armado.

And Edom replied unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me lest I come out against thee with the sword.

19 Y los hijos de Israel dijeron: Por el camino seguido iremos; y si bebiéremos tus aguas yo y mis ganados, daré el precio de ellas; ciertamente sin hacer otra cosa, pasaré de seguida.

And the sons of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way; and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it; I will only, without doing anything else, go through on my feet.

20 Y él respondió: No pasarás. Y salió Edom contra él con mucho pueblo, y mano fuerte.

And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with many people and with a strong hand.

21 N o quiso, pues, Edom dejar pasar a Israel por su término, y así se apartó Israel de él.

Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border; and thus Israel turned away from him.

22 ¶ Y partidos de Cades los hijos de Israel, toda aquella congregación, vinieron al monte de Hor.

¶ And the sons of Israel, even the whole congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto Mount Hor.

23 Y el SEÑOR habló a Moisés y a Aarón en el monte de Hor, en los términos de la tierra de Edom, diciendo:

And the LORD spoke unto Moses and Aaron in Mount Hor, on the borders of the land of Edom, saying,

24 A arón será reunido a su pueblo; pues no entrará en la tierra que yo di a los hijos de Israel, por cuanto fuisteis rebeldes a mi mandamiento en las aguas de Meriba.

Aaron shall be gathered unto his peoples; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the sons of Israel because ye were rebels to my word at the water of Meribah.

25 T oma a Aarón y a Eleazar su hijo, y hazlos subir al monte de Hor;

Take Aaron and Eleazar, his son, and bring them up unto Mount Hor

26 y haz desnudar a Aarón sus vestidos, y viste de ellos a Eleazar su hijo; porque Aarón será reunido a su pueblo, y allí morirá.

and cause Aaron to be stripped of his garments and put them upon Eleazar, his son; for Aaron shall be gathered unto his people and shall die there.

27 Y Moisés hizo como el SEÑOR le mandó; y subieron al monte de Hor a ojos de toda la congregación.

And Moses did as the LORD commanded him; and they went up into Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.

28 Y Moisés hizo desnudar a Aarón de sus vestidos y los vistió a Eleazar su hijo; y Aarón murió allí en la cumbre del monte; y Moisés y Eleazar descendieron del monte.

And Moses caused Aaron to be stripped of his garments and put them upon Eleazar, his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount; and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.

29 Y viendo toda la congregación que Aarón había muerto, le lloraron treinta días todas las familias de Israel.

And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the families of Israel.
