1 A los dieciocho años del rey Jeroboam, reinó Abías sobre Judá.

¶ Now in the year eighteen of King Jeroboam, Abijah began to reign over Judah.

2 Y reinó tres años en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre fue Micaías hija de Uriel de Gabaa. Y hubo guerra entre Abías y Jeroboam.

He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Michaiah, the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

3 E ntonces ordenó Abías batalla con el ejército de los valerosos en la guerra, cuatrocientos mil hombres escogidos; y Jeroboam ordenó batalla contra él con ochocientos mil hombres escogidos, fuertes y valerosos.

And Abijah set the battle in order with an army of valiant men of war, four hundred thousand chosen men; and Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, being mighty men of valour.

4 Y se levantó Abías sobre el monte de Zemaraim, que es en los montes de Efraín, y dijo: Oídme, Jeroboam y todo Israel.

And Abijah stood up upon Mount Zemaraim, which is in the mountains of Ephraim, and said, Hear me, Jeroboam and all Israel;

5 ¿ No sabéis vosotros, que el SEÑOR Dios de Israel dio el reino a David sobre Israel para siempre, a él y a sus hijos en alianza de sal?

do ye not know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, unto him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?

6 P ero Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, siervo de Salomón hijo de David, se levantó y se rebeló contra su señor;

Yet Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, the slave of Solomon the son of David, is risen up and has rebelled against his lord.

7 y que se allegaron a él hombres vanos, hijos de Belial, y pudieron más que Roboam hijo de Salomón, porque Roboam era joven y tierno de corazón, y no se defendió de ellos.

And there are gathered unto him vain men, the sons of Belial, and have strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted and could not withstand them.

8 Y ahora vosotros consultáis para fortificaros contra el reino del SEÑOR que está en mano de los hijos de David; porque sois muchos, y tenéis con vosotros los becerros de oro que Jeroboam os hizo por dioses.

And now ye think to withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David because ye are a great multitude, and ye have with you the golden calves, which Jeroboam made you for gods.

9 ¿ No echasteis vosotros a los sacerdotes del SEÑOR, a los hijos de Aarón, y a los levitas, y os habéis hecho sacerdotes a la manera de los pueblos de otras tierras, para que cualquiera venga a consagrarse con un becerro y siete carneros, y así sea sacerdote de los que no son dioses?

Have ye not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the peoples of other lands, so that whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, the same may become a priest of those that are not gods.

10 M as en cuanto a nosotros, el SEÑOR es nuestro Dios, y no le hemos dejado; y los sacerdotes que ministran al SEÑOR son los hijos de Aarón, y los levitas son los que están en la obra;

But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests, which minister unto the LORD, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait upon their business;

11 l os cuales queman al SEÑOR los holocaustos cada mañana y cada tarde, y el incienso aromático; y ponen los panes sobre la mesa limpia, y el candelero de oro con sus lámparas para que ardan cada tarde; porque nosotros guardamos la ordenanza del SEÑOR nuestro Dios; mas vosotros le habéis dejado.

and they burn unto the LORD every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and aromatic incense, and they place the showbread upon the clean table, and the lampstand of gold with its lamps, to burn every evening; for we keep the charge of the LORD our God, but ye have forsaken him.

12 Y he aquí Dios está con nosotros por capitán, y sus sacerdotes con las trompetas para que suenen alarma contra vosotros. Oh hijos de Israel, no peleéis contra el SEÑOR Dios de vuestros padres, porque no os sucederá bien.

And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O sons of Israel, do not fight against the LORD God of your fathers, for ye shall not prosper.

13 P ero Jeroboam hizo girar una emboscada para venir a ellos por la espalda; y estando así delante de ellos, la emboscada estaba a espaldas de Judá.

¶ But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come about behind them; so they were before Judah, and the ambush was behind them.

14 E ntonces cuando miró Judá, he aquí que tenía batalla por delante y a las espaldas; por lo que clamaron al SEÑOR, y los sacerdotes tocaron las trompetas,

So when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind; and they cried unto the LORD, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

15 y los de Judá gritaron. Y cuando ellos gritaron, Dios desbarató a Jeroboam y a todo Israel delante de Abías y de Judá.

Then the men of Judah gave a shout, and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

16 Y huyeron los hijos de Israel delante de Judá, y Dios los entregó en sus manos.

And the sons of Israel fled before Judah, and God delivered them into their hand.

17 Y Abías y su pueblo hacían en ellos gran mortandad; y cayeron heridos de Israel quinientos mil hombres escogidos.

And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter; so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

18 A sí fueron humillados los hijos de Israel en aquel tiempo; mas los hijos de Judá se fortificaron, porque se apoyaban en el SEÑOR Dios de sus padres.

Thus the sons of Israel were humbled at that time, and the sons of Judah prevailed because they relied upon the LORD God of their fathers.

19 Y siguió Abías a Jeroboam, y le tomó algunas ciudades, a Bet-el con sus aldeas, a Jesana con sus aldeas, y a Efrón con sus aldeas.

And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam and took cities from him, Bethel with its towns and Jeshanah with its towns and Ephron with its towns.

20 ¶ Y nunca más tuvo Jeroboam poderío en los días de Abías; y le hirió el SEÑOR, y murió.

Neither did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah; and the LORD struck him, and he died.

21 P ero se fortificó Abías; y tomó catorce mujeres, y engendró veintidós hijos, y dieciséis hijas.

But Abijah waxed mighty and married fourteen wives, and begat twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.

22 L os demás hechos de Abías, sus caminos, y sus palabras, están escritos en la historia de Iddo profeta.

And the rest of the acts of Abijah and his ways and his words are written in the story of the prophet Iddo.
