1 C uando Josías comenzó a reinar era de ocho años, y reinó en Jerusalén treinta y un años. El nombre de su madre fue Jedida hija de Adaía de Boscat.

¶ Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jedidah, the daughter of Adaiah of Boscath.

2 E hizo lo recto ante los ojos del SEÑOR, y anduvo en todo el camino de David su padre, sin apartarse a diestra ni a siniestra.

And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD and walked in all the way of David, his father, and did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

3 Y a los dieciocho años del rey Josías, aconteció que envió el rey a Safán hijo de Azalía, hijo de Mesulam, el escriba, a la Casa del SEÑOR, diciendo:

And in the year eighteen of King Josiah, the king sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of the LORD, saying,

4 V e a Hilcías, el sumo sacerdote, que completa el dinero que se ha traído la Casa del SEÑOR, que han recogido del pueblo los guardianes de la puerta,

Go up to Hilkiah, the high priest, that he may sum the silver which has been brought into the house of the LORD, which the keepers of the door have gathered of the people;

5 y que lo pongan en manos de los que hacen la obra, que tienen cargo de la Casa del SEÑOR, y que lo entreguen a los que hacen la obra en la Casa del SEÑOR, para reparar las aberturas de la Casa;

and let them deliver it into the hands of those that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD; and let them give it to those that do the work in the house of the LORD, to repair the breaches of the house,

6 a los carpinteros, a los maestros y albañiles, para comprar madera y piedra de cantería para reparar la Casa;

unto carpenters and builders and masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house;

7 y que no se les cuente el dinero cuyo manejo se les confiare, porque ellos proceden con fidelidad.

and there is to be no accounting required of those unto whom the money is delivered because they deal faithfully.

8 E ntonces dijo el sumo sacerdote Hilcías a Safán, el escriba: El libro de la ley he hallado en la Casa del SEÑOR. E Hilcías dio el libro a Safán para que lo leyera.

Then Hilkiah, the high priest, said unto Shaphan, the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

9 V iniendo luego Safán, el escriba al rey, dio al rey la respuesta, y dijo: Tus siervos han juntado el dinero que se halló en el templo, y lo han entregado en poder de los que hacen la obra, que tienen cargo de la Casa del SEÑOR.

And Shaphan, the scribe, came to the king and brought the king word again and said, Thy slaves have gathered the money that was found in the house and have delivered it into the hand of those that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD.

10 A simismo Safán, el escriba declaró al rey, diciendo: Hilcías el sacerdote me ha dado un libro. Y lo leyó Safán delante del rey.

Likewise, Shaphan, the scribe, declared unto the king, saying, Hilkiah, the priest, has delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.

11 Y cuando el rey oyó las palabras del libro de la ley, rasgó sus vestidos.

¶ And when the king heard the words of the book of the law, he rent his clothes.

12 Y mandó el rey a Hilcías el sacerdote, y a Ahicam hijo de Safán, y a Acbor hijo de Micaías, y a Safán escriba, y a Asaías siervo del rey, diciendo:

And the king commanded Hilkiah, the priest, and Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, and Achbor, the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan, the scribe, and Asahiah, a slave of the king’s, saying,

13 I d, y preguntad al SEÑOR por mí, y por el pueblo, por todo Judá, acerca de las palabras de este libro que se ha hallado; porque grande ira del SEÑOR es la que ha sido encendida contra nosotros, por cuanto nuestros padres no oyeron las palabras de este libro, para hacer conforme a todo lo que nos fue escrito.

Go and enquire of the LORD for me and for the people and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found, for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.

14 E ntonces fue Hilcías el sacerdote, y Ahicam y Acbor y Safán y Asaías, a Hulda la profetisa, mujer de Salum hijo de Ticva hijo de Harhas, guarda de las vestiduras, la cual moraba en Jerusalén en la casa de la doctrina, y hablaron con ella.

So Hilkiah, the priest, and Ahikam and Achbor and Shaphan and Asahiah went unto Huldah, the prophetess, the wife of Shallum, the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe, who dwelt in Jerusalem in the house of doctrine; and they spoke with her.

15 Y ella les dijo: Así dice el SEÑOR Dios de Israel: Decid al varón que os envió a mí:

And she said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Tell the man that sent you to me,

16 A sí dice el SEÑOR: He aquí yo traigo mal sobre este lugar, y sobre los que en él moran, a saber, todas las palabras del libro que ha leído el rey de Judá;

Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place and upon its inhabitants, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read,

17 p or cuanto me dejaron a mí, y quemaron incienso a dioses ajenos, provocándome a ira en toda obra de sus manos; y mi furor se ha encendido contra este lugar, y no se apagará.

because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore, my wrath is kindled against this place and shall not be quenched.

18 M as al rey de Judá que os ha enviado para que preguntaseis al SEÑOR, diréis así: Así dice el SEÑOR Dios de Israel: Por cuanto oíste las palabras del libro,

But to the king of Judah who sent you to enquire of the LORD, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Because thou didst hear the words of the book,

19 y tu corazón se enterneció, y te humillaste delante del SEÑOR, cuando oíste lo que yo he pronunciado contra este lugar y contra sus moradores, que serían asolados y malditos, y rasgaste tus vestidos, y lloraste en mi presencia, también yo te he oído, dice el SEÑOR.

and thy heart became tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the LORD when thou didst hear what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they should become desolate and cursed, and hast rent thy clothes and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD.

20 P or tanto, he aquí yo te recogeré con tus padres, y tú serás llevado a tu sepulcro en paz, y no verán tus ojos todo el mal que yo traigo sobre este lugar. Y ellos dieron al rey la respuesta.

Behold, therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace, and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
