1 Y respondió Job y dijo:

¶ And Job answered and said,

2 ¡ Oh, si pesaren al justo mi queja y mi tormento, y se alzaren igualmente en balanza!

Oh that my grief and calamity were justly weighed and laid equally in the balances!

3 P orque mi tormento pesaría más que la arena del mar; y por tanto mis palabras son tragadas.

For it would be heavier than the sand of the sea; therefore, my words are swallowed up.

4 P orque las saetas del Todopoderoso están en mí, cuyo veneno bebe mi espíritu; y terrores de Dios me combaten.

For the arrows of the Almighty are within me; my spirit drinks of the poison; and terrors of God combat me.

5 ¿ Acaso gime el asno montés junto a la hierba? ¿Muge el buey junto a su pasto?

Does the wild ass bray when he has grass? Does the ox low over his fodder?

6 ¿ Por ventura se comerá lo desabrido sin sal? ¿O habrá gusto en la clara del huevo?

Can that which is unsavoury be eaten without salt? Or is there any taste in the white of an egg?

7 L as cosas que mi alma no quería tocar antes, ahora por los dolores son mi comida.

The things that my soul refused to touch before, now by my sorrow are my food.

8 ¡ Quién me diera que viniera mi petición, y que Dios me diera lo que espero;

¶ Oh, that I might have my request and that God would grant me the thing that I long for!

9 y que quisiera Dios quebrantarme; y que soltara su mano, y me despedazare!

Even that it would please God to destroy me, that he would let loose his hand and cut me off!

10 Y en esto crecería aún consolación, si me asare con dolor sin haber misericordia; no que haya contradicho las palabras del que es Santo.

Then should my comfort grow; I would hold on to sorrow without mercy; for I have not contradicted the words of the Holy One.

11 ¿ Cuál es mi fortaleza para esperar aún? ¿Y cuál mi fin para dilatar mi vida?

What is my strength that I should hope? What is my end that I should prolong my life?

12 ¿ Es mi fortaleza la de las piedras? O mi carne, ¿es de acero?

Is my strength the strength of stones? Or is my flesh of steel?

13 ¿ No me ayudo cuanto puedo, y con todo eso el poder me falta del todo?

Am I not doing all that I can, and even with all this I lack the power to do anything?

14 ¶ El atribulado merece recibir misericordia de su compañero; pero se ha abandonado el temor del Omnipotente.

¶ He that is afflicted deserves mercy from his friend; but he has forsaken the fear of the Almighty.

15 M is hermanos me han mentido como arroyo; se pasaron como las riberas impetuosas,

My brethren have lied to me as a brook; they passed away as an impetuous stream,

16 q ue están escondidas por la helada, y encubiertas con nieve.

which was hidden by ice and covered by snow.

17 Q ue al tiempo del calor son deshechas, y calentándose, desaparecen de su lugar;

Which in the time of heat, they vanish; when they are heated, they disappear out of their place;

18 a pártanse de las sendas de su camino, suben en vano y se pierden.

they turn aside out of the paths of their way; they go to nothing and perish.

19 L as miraron los caminantes de Temán, los caminantes de Sabá esperaron en ellas;

The travelers of Tema looked; the traveling companies of Sheba waited for them.

20 p ero fueron avergonzados por su esperanza; porque vinieron hasta ellas, y se hallaron confusos.

They were put to shame because of their hope; they came there and found them confused.

21 A hora ciertamente vosotros sois como ellas; que habéis visto el tormento, y teméis.

Now ye are certainly as they; ye have seen the torment and are afraid.

22 ¿ Os he dicho yo: Traedme, y pagad por mí de vuestra hacienda;

¶ Did I say, Bring unto me and pay for me out of your substance

23 y libradme de la mano del angustiador, y rescatadme del poder de los violentos?

and deliver me from the enemy’s hand and ransom me from the hand of the mighty?

24 E nseñadme, y yo callaré; y hacedme entender en qué he errado.

Teach me, and I will be silent; and cause me to understand in what I have erred.

25 ¡ Cuán fuertes son las palabras de rectitud! Mas ¿qué reprende el argumento de vosotros?

How forcible are the words of rectitude! But what does your argument reprove?

26 ¿ No estáis pensando las palabras para reprender, y echáis al viento palabras perdidas?

Are ye not thinking up words of reproof and throw to the wind words that are lost?

27 T ambién os arrojáis sobre el huérfano, y hacéis hoyo delante de vuestro amigo.

Ye also overwhelm the fatherless and dig a pit before your friend.

28 A hora pues, si queréis, mirad en mí, y ved si mentiré delante de vosotros.

Now, therefore, if ye desire, look upon me and see if I shall lie in your presence.

29 T ornad ahora, y no haya iniquidad; volved aún a mirar por mi justicia en esto.

Turn now, and there is no iniquity; return again to look for my righteousness in this.

30 S i hay iniquidad en mi lengua; o si mi paladar no discierne los tormentos.

If there is iniquity in my tongue or if my taste cannot discern the torments.
