1 ¶ Aconteció después de esto, que Absalón se hizo de carros y gente de a caballo, y cincuenta que corrieran delante de él.

¶ And it came to pass after this that Absalom prepared himself chariots and horses and fifty men to run before him.

2 Y se levantaba Absalón de mañana, y se ponía a un lado del camino de la puerta; y a cualquiera que tenía pleito y venía al rey a juicio, Absalón le llamaba a sí, y le decía: ¿De qué ciudad eres? Y él respondía: Tu siervo es de una de las tribus de Israel.

And Absalom rose up early and stood beside the way of the gate; and when anyone that had a controversy came to the king for judgment, then Absalom called unto them and said, Of what city art thou? And he said, Thy slave is of one of the tribes of Israel.

3 E ntonces Absalón le decía: Mira, tus palabras son buenas y justas; mas no tienes quien te oiga por el rey.

And Absalom would say unto them, See, thy matters are good and just; but there is no one delegated by the king to hear thee.

4 Y decía Absalón: ¡Quién me pusiera por juez en la tierra, para que vinieran a mí todos los que tienen pleito o negocio, que yo les haría justicia!

And Absalom would say, Oh, that I were made judge in the land, that everyone who has any suit or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice!

5 Y acontecía que, cuando alguno se llegaba para inclinarse a él, él extendía su mano, y lo tomaba, y lo besaba.

And it was so, that when anyone came near unto him to do him obeisance, he put forth his hand and took him and kissed him.

6 Y de esta manera hacía con todo Israel que venía al rey a juicio; y así robaba Absalón el corazón de los de Israel.

And Absalom did according to this manner with all Israel that came to the king for judgment; so Absalom stole the hearts of those of Israel.

7 ¶ Y al finalizar un periodo predeterminado de cuarenta años aconteció que Absalón dijo al rey: Yo te ruego me permitas que vaya a Hebrón, a pagar mi voto que he prometido al SEÑOR.

¶ And at the end of a predetermined period of forty years, it came to pass that Absalom said unto the king, I pray thee, let me go to Hebron and pay my vow, which I have vowed unto the LORD.

8 P orque tu siervo hizo voto cuando estaba en Gesur en Siria, diciendo: Si el SEÑOR me volviere a Jerusalén, yo serviré al SEÑOR.

For thy slave vowed a vow while I abode at Geshur in Syria, saying, If the LORD shall bring me again indeed to Jerusalem, then I will serve the LORD.

9 Y el rey dijo: Ve en paz. Y él se levantó, y se fue a Hebrón.

And the king said unto him, Go in peace. So he arose and went to Hebron.

10 P ero envió Absalón espías por todas las tribus de Israel, diciendo: Cuando oyereis el sonido del shofar, diréis: Absalón reina en Hebrón.

But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as ye hear the sound of the shofar, then ye shall say, Absalom reigns in Hebron.

11 Y fueron con Absalón doscientos hombres de Jerusalén por él convidados, los cuales iban en su integridad, sin saber nada.

And two hundred men of Jerusalem went with Absalom, that were invited by him, and they went in their integrity, without knowing anything.

12 T ambién envió Absalón por Ahitofel, el gilonita, del consejo de David, a Gilo su ciudad, mientras hacía sus sacrificios. Y fue hecha una grande conjuración, y el pueblo con Absalón se iba aumentando.

Absalom also sent for Ahithophel, the Gilonite, of David’s counsel, from his city, even from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong, for the people increased continually with Absalom.

13 ¶ Y vino el aviso a David, diciendo: El corazón del varón de Israel se va tras Absalón.

¶ And the word came to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom.

14 E ntonces David dijo a todos sus siervos que estaban con él en Jerusalén: Levantaos, y huyamos, porque no podremos escapar de otra manera delante de Absalón; daos prisa a andar, no sea que apresurándose él nos alcance, y arroje el mal sobre nosotros, y hiera la ciudad a filo de espada.

Then David said unto all his slaves that were with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us flee, for we shall not otherwise escape from Absalom; make speed to depart lest he overtake us suddenly and bring evil upon us and smite the city with the edge of the sword.

15 Y los siervos del rey dijeron al rey: He aquí, tus siervos están listos a todo lo que nuestro señor el rey eligiere.

And the king’s slaves said unto the king, Behold, thy slaves are ready to do whatever my lord the king shall choose.

16 E l rey entonces salió, con toda su casa a pie; y dejó el rey diez mujeres concubinas para que guardaran la casa.

And the king went forth and all his household after him. And the king left ten women, who were concubines, to keep the house.

17 S alió, pues, el rey con todo el pueblo a pie, y se pararon en un lugar distante.

And the king went forth and all the people after him and stopped in a place that was far off.

18 Y todos sus siervos pasaban a su lado, y todos los cereteos y peleteos; y todos los geteos, seiscientos hombres que habían venido a pie con él desde Gat, iban delante del rey.

And all his slaves passed to his side, and all the Cherethites and all the Pelethites and all the Gittites, six hundred men who had come on foot with him from Gath, went before the king.

19 Y dijo el rey a Itai, el geteo: ¿Para qué vienes tú también con nosotros? Vuélvete y quédate con el rey; porque tú eres extranjero, y desterrado también de tu lugar.

Then the king said to Ittai, the Gittite, Why dost thou also go with us? Return to thy place and abide with the king; for thou art a stranger and also an exile.

20 ¿ Ayer viniste, y he de hacer hoy que mudes lugar para ir con nosotros? Yo voy como voy; tú vuélvete, y haz volver a tus hermanos; en ti hay misericordia y verdad.

Whereas thou didst come but yesterday, should I this day make thee go up and down with us? Seeing I go where I go, return thou and take back thy brethren; mercy and truth are in thee.

21 Y respondió Itai al rey, diciendo: Vive Dios, y vive mi señor el rey, que, o para muerte o para vida, donde mi señor el rey estuviere, allí estará también tu siervo.

And Ittai answered the king and said, As the LORD lives and as my lord the king lives, for life or for death, wherever my lord the king shall be, there also will thy slave be.

22 E ntonces David dijo a Itai: Ven pues, y pasa. Y pasó Itai, el geteo, y todos sus varones, y todos sus pequeños.

Then David said to Ittai, Go, therefore, and pass. And Ittai, the Gittite, passed and all his men and all the little ones that were with him.

23 Y todos los de la tierra lloraron en alta voz; y pasó todo el pueblo el arroyo de Cedrón; y después pasó el rey, y todo el pueblo pasó, al camino que va al desierto.

And all those of the land wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed the brook Kidron; and then the king also passed, and all the people passed unto the way of the wilderness.

24 ¶ Y he aquí, también iba Sadoc, y con él todos los levitas que llevaban el arca del pacto de Dios; y asentaron el arca del pacto de Dios. Y subió Abiatar después que hubo acabado de salir de la ciudad todo el pueblo.

¶ And behold Zadok also and with him all the Levites who bore the ark of the covenant of God, and they set down the ark of God. And Abiathar went up after all the people had finished leaving the city.

25 P ero dijo el rey a Sadoc: Vuelve el arca de Dios a la ciudad; que si yo hallare gracia en los ojos del SEÑOR, él me volverá, y me hará ver a ella y a su tabernáculo.

But the king said unto Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city; if I shall find grace in the eyes of the LORD, he will bring me again and show me both it and his tabernacle.

26 Y si dijere: No me agradas; aquí estoy, haga de mí lo que bien le pareciere.

But if he should say, I have no delight in thee; behold, here I am, let him do to me as seems good unto him.

27 D ijo aún el rey a Sadoc sacerdote: ¿No eres tú el vidente? Vuélvete en paz a la ciudad; y con vosotros vuestros dos hijos, tu hijo Ahimaas, y Jonatán hijo de Abiatar.

The king said also unto Zadok, the priest, Art not thou a seer? Return into the city in peace and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz, thy son, and Jonathan, the son of Abiathar.

28 M irad, yo me detendré en los campos del desierto, hasta que venga respuesta de vosotros que me dé aviso.

See, I will tarry in the plain of the wilderness until you send word to me.

29 E ntonces Sadoc y Abiatar volvieron el arca de Dios a Jerusalén; y se estuvieron allá.

Then Zadok and Abiathar carried the ark of God again to Jerusalem, and they remained there.

30 Y David subió la cuesta de las olivas; y la subió llorando, llevando la cabeza cubierta, y los pies descalzos. También todo el pueblo que tenía consigo cubrió cada uno su cabeza, y lloraban mientras subían.

And David went up by the ascent of Mount Olivet and wept as he went up and had his head covered, and he went barefoot. And all the people that were with him covered each one his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up.

31 ¶ Y dieron aviso a David, diciendo: Ahitofel también está con los que conspiraron con Absalón. Entonces dijo David: Enloquece ahora, oh SEÑOR, el consejo de Ahitofel.

¶ And it was told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. Then David said, O LORD, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into folly.

32 Y cuando David llegó a la cumbre del monte para adorar allí a Dios, he aquí Husai, el arquita, que le salió al encuentro, trayendo rota su ropa, y tierra sobre su cabeza.

And it came to pass that when David came to the top of the mount to worship God there, behold, Hushai, the Archite came to meet him, with his coat rent and earth upon his head,

33 Y le dijo David: Si pasares conmigo, me serás de carga;

Unto whom David said, If thou pass on with me, then thou shalt be a burden unto me;

34 m as si volvieres a la ciudad, y dijeres a Absalón: Rey, yo seré tu siervo; como hasta aquí he sido siervo de tu padre, así seré ahora siervo tuyo, entonces tú disiparás el consejo de Ahitofel.

but if thou return to the city and say unto Absalom, I will be thy slave, O king as I have been thy father’s slave until now, so will I now also be thy slave; then thou may defeat the counsel of Ahithophel for me.

35 ¿ No estarán allí contigo Sadoc y Abiatar sacerdotes? Por tanto, todo lo que oyeres en la casa del rey, darás aviso de ello a Sadoc y a Abiatar sacerdotes.

Are not Zadok and Abiathar, the priests, there with thee? Therefore, it shall be that whatever thou shalt hear out of the king’s house, thou shalt tell it to Zadok and Abiathar, the priests.

36 Y he aquí que están con ellos sus dos hijos, Ahimaas el de Sadoc, y Jonatán el de Abiatar; por mano de ellos me enviaréis aviso de todo lo que oyereis.

Behold, they have there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz, Zadok’s son, and Jonathan, Abiathar’s son; and by them you shall send unto me everything that you hear.

37 A sí se vino Husai compañero especial de David a la ciudad; y Absalón entró en Jerusalén.

So Hushai, David’s special companion came into the city, and Absalom came into Jerusalem.
