1 ¶ Oíd, hijos, el castigo del padre; y estad atentos para que sepáis inteligencia.

¶ Hearken, ye sons, unto the chastening of the father, and pay attention that ye might know understanding.

2 P orque os doy buena enseñanza; no desamparéis mi ley.

For I give you good doctrine; do not forsake my law.

3 P orque yo fui hijo de mi padre, delicado y único delante de mi madre.

For I was my father’s son, tender and unique in the sight of my mother.

4 Y él me enseñaba, y me decía: Sustente tu corazón mis razones, guarda mis mandamientos, y vivirás.

He taught me and said unto me, Sustain thine heart with my words; keep my commandments, and live.

5 A dquiere sabiduría, adquiere inteligencia; no te olvides ni te apartes de las razones de mi boca;

Get wisdom, get understanding; forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

6 n o la dejes, y ella te guardará; ámala, y te conservará.

Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee; love her, and she shall keep thee.

7 S abiduría primero que todo; adquiere sabiduría; y ante toda tu posesión adquiere inteligencia.

Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

8 C rece en ella, y ella te engrandecerá; ella te honrará, cuando tú la hubieres abrazado.

Grow in wisdom, and she shall promote thee; she shall bring thee to honour when thou hast embraced her.

9 D ará a tu cabeza aumento de gracia; corona de hermosura te entregará.

She shall give to thine head an increase of grace; a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

10 O ye, hijo mío, y recibe mis razones; y se te multiplicarán años de vida.

Hear, O my son, and receive my words, and the years of thy life shall be multiplied.

11 P or el camino de la sabiduría te he encaminado, y por veredas derechas te he hecho andar.

I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have caused thee to walk in right paths.

12 C uando anduvieres por ellas no se estrecharán tus pasos; y si corrieres, no tropezarás.

When thou goest in these paths, thy steps shall not be hindered; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

13 T en el castigo, no lo dejes; guárdalo, porque eso es tu vida.

Take fast hold of chastening; do not let go; keep this; for it is thy life.

14 ¶ No entres por la vereda de los impíos, ni vayas por el camino de los malos.

¶ Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

15 D esampárala, no pases por ella; apártate de ella, y pasa.

Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

16 P orque no duermen ellos, si no hicieren mal; y pierden su sueño, si no han hecho caer.

For they do not sleep, unless they have done evil; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause someone to fall.

17 P orque comen pan de maldad, y beben vino de violencia.

For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

18 M as la vereda de los justos es como la luz del lucero, que va en aumento hasta que el día es perfecto.

But the path of the just is as the light of the morning star, that shines more and more until the day is perfect.

19 E l camino de los impíos es como la oscuridad; no saben en qué tropiezan.

The way of the wicked is as darkness; they do not know in what they stumble.

20 ¶ Hijo mío, está atento a mis palabras; inclina tu oído a mis razones.

¶ My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my words.

21 N o se aparten de tus ojos; guárdalas en medio de tu corazón.

Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

22 P orque son vida a los que las hallan, y medicina a toda su carne.

For they are life unto those that find them and medicine to all their flesh.

23 S obre toda cosa guardada, guarda tu corazón; porque de él mana la vida.

Above all else, guard thy heart; for out of it flows the issues of life.

24 A parta de ti la perversidad de la boca, y aleja de ti la desviación de los labios.

Put away from thee the perversion of the mouth, and the deviation of the lips put far from thee.

25 T us ojos miren lo recto, y tus párpados enderecen tu camino delante de ti.

Let thine eyes look upon that which is right, and let thine eyelids straighten thy path before thee.

26 P esa la vereda de tus pies, y todos tus caminos sean ordenados.

Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

27 N o te desvíes a diestra, ni a siniestra; aparta tu pie del mal.

Turn not to the right hand nor to the left; remove thy foot from evil.
