1 C uando el rey David era viejo, y entrado en días, le cubrían de vestidos, mas no se calentaba.

¶ Now king David was old and stricken in years, and they covered him with clothes, but he did not become warm.

2 L e dijeron, por tanto, sus siervos: Busquen a mi señor el rey una joven virgen, para que esté delante del rey, y lo caliente, y duerma a su lado, y calentará a nuestro señor el rey.

Therefore, his slaves said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin, and let her stand before the king and let her warm him and let her lie in thy bosom, and she shall warm my lord the king.

3 Y buscaron una joven hermosa por todo el término de Israel, y hallaron a Abisag, la sunamita, y la trajeron al rey.

So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the borders of Israel and found Abishag, a Shunammite and brought her to the king.

4 Y la joven era muy hermosa, la cual calentaba al rey, y le servía; mas el rey nunca la conoció.

And the damsel was very fair and warmed the king and ministered to him, but the king knew her not.

5 ¶ Entonces Adonías hijo de Haguit se levantó, diciendo: Yo reinaré. Y se hizo de carros y gente de a caballo, y cincuenta varones que corrieran delante de él.

¶ Then Adonijah, the son of Haggith, exalted himself, saying, I will reign, and he prepared chariots and horsemen for himself and fifty men to run before him.

6 Y su padre nunca lo entristeció en todos sus días con decirle: ¿Por qué haces así? Y también éste era de hermoso parecer; y lo había engendrado después de Absalón.

And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was very handsome; and he had begotten him after Absalom.

7 Y tenía tratos con Joab hijo de Sarvia, y con Abiatar, el sacerdote, los cuales ayudaban a Adonías.

And he conferred with Joab, the son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar, the priest who helped Adonijah.

8 M as Sadoc, el sacerdote, Benaía hijo de Joiada, Natán, el profeta, Simei, Rei, y todos los grandes de David, no seguían a Adonías.

But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan, the prophet, and Shimei and Rei and the mighty men of David did not follow Adonijah.

9 Y matando Adonías ovejas y vacas y animales engordados junto a la peña de Zohelet, que está cerca de la fuente de Rogel, convidó a todos sus hermanos los hijos del rey, y a todos los varones de Judá, siervos del rey;

And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by Enrogel, and called all his brethren, the king’s sons, and all the men of Judah, the king’s slaves;

10 m as no convidó a Natán, el profeta, ni a Benaía, ni a los grandes, ni a Salomón su hermano.

but he did not invite Nathan, the prophet, nor Benaiah nor the mighty men nor Solomon his brother.

11 Y habló Natán a Betsabé madre de Salomón, diciendo: ¿No has oído que reina Adonías hijo de Haguit, sin saberlo David nuestro señor?

¶ And Nathan spoke unto Bathsheba, the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah, the son of Haggith, reigns without David our lord knowing of it?

12 V en pues ahora, y toma mi consejo, para que libres tu vida, y la vida de tu hijo Salomón.

Now, therefore, come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel that thou may deliver thine own life and the life of thy son Solomon.

13 V e, y preséntate ante el rey David, y dile: Rey señor mío, ¿no has jurado tú a tu sierva, diciendo: Salomón tu hijo reinará después de mí, y él se sentará en mi trono? ¿Por qué pues reina Adonías?

Go and enter in unto King David and say unto him, Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thy handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon, thy son, shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? Why then does Adonijah reign?

14 Y estando tú aún hablando con el rey, yo entraré tras ti, y confirmaré tus razones.

And while thou art yet speaking there with the king, I also will come in after thee and finish thy words.

15 E ntonces Betsabé entró al rey a la cámara; y el rey era muy viejo; y Abisag, la sunamita servía al rey.

And Bathsheba went in unto the king into the chamber; and the king was very old; and Abishag, the Shunammite, ministered unto the king.

16 Y Betsabé se inclinó, y adoró al rey. Y el rey dijo: ¿Qué tienes?

And Bathsheba bowed and worshipped the king. And the king said, What dost thou desire?

17 Y ella le respondió: Señor mío, tú juraste a tu sierva por el SEÑOR tu Dios, diciendo: Salomón tu hijo reinará después de mí, y él se sentará en mi trono;

And she said unto him, My lord, thou didst sware by the LORD thy God unto thy handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon, thy son, shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne;

18 y he aquí ahora Adonías reina; y tú, mi señor rey, hasta ahora no lo sabes.

and now, behold, Adonijah reigns; and now, my lord the king, thou dost not know it.

19 H a sacrificado bueyes, y animales engordados, y muchas ovejas, y ha convidado a todos los hijos del rey, y a Abiatar, el sacerdote, y a Joab general del ejército; mas a Salomón tu siervo no ha convidado.

He has slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance and has called all the sons of the king and Abiathar, the priest, and Joab, the captain of the host; but he has not invited Solomon, thy slave.

20 R ey señor mío, los ojos de todo Israel están sobre ti, para que les declares quién se ha de sentar en el trono de mi señor el rey después de él.

And thou, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee that thou should tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

21 Y acontecerá, cuando mi señor el rey durmiere con sus padres, que yo y mi hijo Salomón seremos estimados pecadores.

Otherwise, it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers that I and my son Solomon shall be counted as sinners.

22 Y estando aún hablando ella con el rey, he aquí Natán, el profeta, que vino.

And while she yet spoke with the king, Nathan, the prophet, also came in.

23 E hicieron saber al rey, diciendo: He aquí está Natán, el profeta; el cual cuando entró al rey, se postró delante del rey inclinando su rostro a tierra.

And they told the king, saying, Behold Nathan, the prophet. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

24 Y dijo Natán: Rey señor mío, ¿has dicho tú: Adonías reinará después de mí, y él se sentará en mi trono?

And Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou said, Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?

25 P orque hoy ha descendido, y ha sacrificado bueyes, y animales engordados, y muchas ovejas, y ha convidado a todos los hijos del rey, y a los capitanes del ejército, y también a Abiatar, el sacerdote; y he aquí, están comiendo y bebiendo delante de él, y han dicho: ¡Viva el rey Adonías!

For today he has gone down and has slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance and has called all the king’s sons and the captains of the host and Abiathar, the priest; and, behold, they eat and drink before him and say, Long live King Adonijah.

26 M as ni a mí tu siervo, ni a Sadoc, el sacerdote, ni a Benaía hijo de Joiada, ni a Salomón tu siervo, ha convidado.

But he did not invite me, thy slave, nor Zadok, the priest, nor Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, nor thy slave Solomon.

27 ¿ Es este negocio ordenado por mi señor el rey, sin haber declarado a tu siervo quién se había de sentar en el trono de mi señor el rey después de él?

Is this thing done by my lord the king, and thou hast not declared unto thy slave who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?

28 E ntonces el rey David respondió, y dijo: Llamadme a Betsabé. Y ella entró a la presencia del rey, y se puso delante del rey.

Then King David answered and said, Call me Bathsheba. And she came into the king’s presence and stood before the king.

29 Y el rey juró, diciendo: Vive el SEÑOR, que ha rescatado mi alma de toda angustia,

And the king swore and said, As the LORD lives, who has ransomed my soul out of all distress,

30 q ue como yo te he jurado por el SEÑOR Dios de Israel, diciendo: Tu hijo Salomón reinará después de mí, y él se sentará en mi trono en lugar mío; que así lo haré hoy.

even as I swore unto thee by the LORD God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Solomon, thy son, shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead; even so will I certainly do this day.

31 E ntonces Betsabé se inclinó al rey, su rostro a tierra, y haciendo reverencia al rey, dijo: Viva mi señor el rey David para siempre.

Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth and did reverence to the king and said, Let my lord King David live for ever.

32 Y el rey David dijo: Llamadme a Sadoc, el sacerdote, y a Natán, el profeta, y a Benaía hijo de Joiada. Y ellos entraron a la presencia del rey.

¶ And King David said, Call me Zadok, the priest, and Nathan, the prophet, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada. And they entered into the presence of the king.

33 Y el rey les dijo: Tomad con vosotros los siervos de vuestro señor, y haced subir a Salomón mi hijo en mi mula, y llevadlo a Gihón.

And the king said unto them, Take with you the slaves of your lord and cause Solomon my son to ride upon my own mule and bring him down to Gihon.

34 Y allí lo ungirán Sadoc, el sacerdote y Natán, el profeta por rey sobre Israel; y tocaréis el shofar, diciendo: ¡Viva el rey Salomón!

And let Zadok, the priest, and Nathan, the prophet, anoint him there king over Israel; and ye shall blow the shofar and say, Long live king Solomon.

35 D espués iréis vosotros detrás de él, y vendrá y se sentará en mi trono, y él reinará por mí; porque a él he ordenado para que sea príncipe sobre Israel y sobre Judá.

Afterward ye shall come up after him that he may come and sit upon my throne, for he shall reign in my stead, for I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah.

36 E ntonces Benaía hijo de Joiada respondió al rey, y dijo: Amén. Así lo diga el SEÑOR, Dios de mi señor el rey.

Then Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, answered the king and said, Amen. Let the LORD God of my lord the king say so too.

37 D e la manera que el SEÑOR ha sido con mi señor el rey, así sea con Salomón; y él haga mayor su trono que el trono de mi señor el rey David.

As the LORD has been with my lord the king, even so let him be with Solomon and let him make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David.

38 Y descendió Sadoc, el sacerdote, y Natán, el profeta, y Benaía hijo de Joiada, y los cereteos y los peleteos, e hicieron subir a Salomón en la mula del rey David, y lo llevaron a Gihón.

So Zadok, the priest, and Nathan, the prophet, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites went down and caused Solomon to ride upon King David’s mule and brought him to Gihon.

39 Y tomando Sadoc, el sacerdote el cuerno del aceite del tabernáculo, ungió a Salomón; y tocaron el shofar, y dijo todo el pueblo: ¡Viva el rey Salomón!

And Zadok, the priest, took the horn of the oil of the tabernacle and anointed Solomon. And they blew the shofar, and all the people said, Long live king Solomon.

40 D espués subió todo el pueblo en pos de él, y cantaba el pueblo con flautas, y hacían grandes alegrías, que parecía que la tierra se hundía con el clamor de ellos.

Afterward all the people came up following him, and the people sang with flutes and rejoiced with great joy so that it seemed the earth rent with the sound of them.

41 ¶ Y lo oyó Adonías, y todos los convidados que con él estaban, cuando ya habían acabado de comer. Y oyendo Joab el sonido del shofar, dijo: ¿Por qué se alborota la ciudad con estruendo?

¶ And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it when they had finished eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the shofar, he said, Why is this noise of the city being in an uproar?

42 E stando aún él hablando, he aquí Jonatán hijo de Abiatar sacerdote vino, al cual dijo Adonías: Entra, porque tú eres hombre de esfuerzo, y traerás buenas nuevas.

And while he yet spoke, behold, Jonathan, the son of Abiathar, the priest, came; and Adonijah said unto him, Come in, for thou art a valiant man and bringest good tidings.

43 Y Jonatán respondió, y dijo a Adonías: Ciertamente nuestro señor el rey David ha hecho rey a Salomón.

And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, Verily our lord King David has made Solomon king.

44 Y el rey ha enviado con él a Sadoc, el sacerdote y a Natán, el profeta, y a Benaía hijo de Joiada, y también a los cereteos y a los peleteos, los cuales le hicieron subir en la mula del rey;

And the king has sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan, the prophet, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to ride upon the king’s mule;

45 y Sadoc, el sacerdote y Natán, el profeta lo han ungido en Gihón por rey; y de allá han subido con alegrías, y la ciudad está llena de estruendo. Este es el alboroto que habéis oído.

and Zadok, the priest, and Nathan, the prophet, have anointed him king in Gihon; and they are come up from there rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This is the noise that ye have heard.

46 Y también Salomón se ha sentado en el trono del reino.

And also Solomon has been seated on the throne of the kingdom.

47 Y aun los siervos del rey han venido a bendecir a nuestro señor el rey David, diciendo: Dios haga bueno el nombre de Salomón más que tu nombre, y haga mayor su trono que el tuyo. Y el rey adoró en la cama.

And moreover, the king’s slaves came to bless our lord King David, saying, God make the name of Solomon better than thy name and make his throne greater than thy throne. And the king worshipped upon the bed.

48 Y también el rey habló así: Bendito sea el SEÑOR Dios de Israel, que ha dado hoy quien se siente en mi trono, viéndolo mis ojos.

And also thus said the king, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who has given one to sit on my throne today, mine eyes even seeing it.

49 E llos entonces se espantaron, y se levantaron todos los convidados que estaban con Adonías, y se fue cada uno por su camino.

And all the guests that were with Adonijah were afraid and rose up and went each one his way.

50 M as Adonías, temiendo de la presencia de Salomón, se levantó y se fue, y tomó los cuernos del altar.

And Adonijah, fearing the presence of Solomon, arose and went and caught hold on the horns of the altar.

51 Y fue hecho saber a Salomón, diciendo: He aquí que Adonías tiene miedo del rey Salomón; porque ha tomado los cuernos del altar, diciendo: Júreme hoy el rey Salomón que no matará a espada a su siervo.

And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah fears King Solomon, for he has caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let King Solomon swear unto me today that he will not slay his slave with the sword.

52 Y Salomón dijo: Si él fuere virtuoso, ni uno de sus cabellos caerá en tierra; mas si se hallare mal en él, morirá.

And Solomon said, If he will show himself virtuous, there shall not one hair of him fall to the ground, but if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall die.

53 Y envió el rey Salomón, y lo trajeron del altar; y él vino, y se inclinó al rey Salomón. Y Salomón le dijo: Vete a tu casa.

So King Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to King Solomon. And Solomon said unto him, Go to thy house.
