1 Y aconteció en los días de Asuero (el Asuero que reinó desde la India hasta la Etiopía sobre ciento veinteisiete provincias),

¶ Now it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus (this is Ahasuerus who reigned from India even unto Ethiopia over one hundred and twenty-seven provinces)

2 q ue en aquellos días, cuando se asentó el rey Asuero sobre el trono de su reino, el cual estaba en Susa, el palacio.

That in those days, when the king Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom, which was in Shushan, the palace,

3 e n el tercer año de su reinado hizo banquete a todos sus príncipes y siervos, teniendo delante de él la fuerza de Persia y de Media, gobernadores y príncipes de provincias,

In the third year of his reign, he made a banquet unto all his princes and his slaves, having before him the power of Persia and Media, the governors and princes of the provinces, ‘

4 p ara mostrar él las riquezas de la gloria de su reino, y la honra de la hermosura de su grandeza, por muchos días, ciento ochenta días.

to show them the riches of the glory of his kingdom and the honour of beauty of his greatness for many days, even one hundred and eighty days.

5 Y cumplidos estos días, hizo el rey banquete por siete días en el patio del huerto del palacio real a todo el pueblo, desde el mayor hasta el menor que se halló en Susa, el palacio.

And when these days were expired, the king made a banquet unto all the people that were present in Shushan the palace, both unto great and small, for seven days, in the court of the garden of the king’s palace.

6 E l pabellón era de blanco, verde, y cárdeno, tendido sobre cuerdas de lino y púrpura en anillos de plata y columnas de mármol; los reclinatorios de oro y de plata, sobre losado de pórfido y de mármol, de alabastro y de cárdeno.

There were white, green, and blue hangings, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rings and pillars of marble; the beds were of gold and silver, upon a pavement of porphyre and of marble and of alabaster and of blue.

7 Y daban a beber en vasos de oro (los vasos eran diferentes unos de otros), y mucho vino real, conforme a la facultad del rey.

And they gave them drink in vessels of gold (the vessels being diverse one from another) and royal wine in abundance, according to the power of the king.

8 Y la bebida fue según esta ley: Que nadie se constriñere; porque así lo había mandado el rey a todos los mayordomos de su casa; que se hiciere según la voluntad de cada uno.

And the drink was according to this law: let no one constrain themselves; for so the king had appointed to all the officers of his house that they should do according to the will of each one.

9 A simismo la reina Vasti hizo banquete de mujeres, en la casa real del rey Asuero.

Likewise Vashti, the queen, made a banquet for the women in the royal house of King Ahasuerus.

10 E l séptimo día, estando el corazón del rey alegre del vino, mandó a Mehumán, Bizta, Harbona, Bigta, Abagta, Zetar, y a Carcas, siete eunucos que servían delante del rey Asuero,

¶ On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven eunuchs that served in the presence of Ahasuerus, the king,

11 q ue trajeran a la reina Vasti delante del rey con la corona del reino, para mostrar a los pueblos y a los príncipes su hermosura; porque era hermosa de parecer.

to bring Vashti, the queen, before the king with the crown of the kingdom, to show the people and the princes her beauty, for she was fair to behold.

12 Y la reina Vasti no quiso venir a la orden del rey, enviada por mano de los eunucos; y se enojó el rey mucho, y se encendió en él su ira.

But Queen Vashti refused to come at the king’s word by his eunuchs; therefore, the king was very wroth, and his anger burned in him.

13 P reguntó entonces el rey a los sabios que sabían los tiempos (porque así era la costumbre del rey para con todos los que sabían la ley y el derecho;

Then the king asked the wise men, who knew the times, (for so was the king’s manner toward all that knew about the law and rights,

14 y estaban junto a él, Carsena, Setar, Admata, Tarsis, Meres, Marsena, y Memucán, siete príncipes de Persia y de Media que veían el rostro del rey, y se sentaban los primeros en el reino):

and the next to him was Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, seven princes of Persia and Media, who saw the king’s face, and who sat first in the kingdom;)

15 ¿ Qué se debe hacer según la ley con la reina Vasti, por cuanto no ha cumplido la orden del rey Asuero, enviada por mano de los eunucos?

What shall we do unto Queen Vashti according to law because she has not performed the decree of King Ahasuerus by the eunuchs?

16 Y dijo Memucán delante del rey y de los príncipes: No solamente contra el rey ha cometido iniquidad la reina Vasti, sino contra todos los príncipes, y contra todos los pueblos que hay en todas las provincias del rey Asuero.

And Memucan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti, the queen, has not only committed iniquity against the king, but also against all the princes and against all the people that are in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus.

17 P orque este hecho de la reina pasará a noticia de todas las mujeres, para hacerles tener en poca estima a sus maridos, diciendo: El rey Asuero mandó traer delante de sí a la reina Vasti, y ella no vino.

For this deed of the queen shall be known abroad unto all the women so that they shall despise their husbands, saying, King Ahasuerus commanded Vashti, the queen, to be brought in before him, but she did not come.

18 Y entonces dirán esto las princesas de Persia y de Media que oyeren el hecho de la reina, a todos los príncipes del rey; y habrá mucho menosprecio y enojo.

And now the princesses of Persia and Media who have heard of the deed of the queen shall say this unto all the king’s princes, and there shall be much contempt and wrath.

19 S i parece bien al rey, salga mandamiento real delante de él, y se escriba entre las leyes de Persia y de Media, que no sea traspasado: Que no venga más Vasti delante del rey Asuero; y dé el rey su reino a su compañera que sea mejor que ella.

If it pleases the king, let there go forth a royal commandment from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it not be altered, That Vashti come no more before King Ahasuerus, and let the king give her royal estate unto another that is better than she.

20 Y la sentencia que hará el rey será oído en todo su reino, aunque es grande, y todas las mujeres darán honra a sus maridos, desde el mayor hasta el menor.

And this sentence which the king shall make shall be heard throughout all his empire, although it is great, and all the wives shall give their husbands honour, from the greatest to the least.

21 Y agradó esta palabra en ojos del rey y de los príncipes, e hizo el rey conforme al dicho de Memucán;

And this word pleased the king and the princes, and the king did according to the word of Memucan;

22 p ues envió cartas a todas las provincias del rey, a cada provincia conforme a su escribir, y a cada pueblo conforme a su lenguaje, diciendo: Que todo varón sea señor en su casa; y que se publique esto en la lengua de su pueblo.

for he sent letters into all the king’s provinces, into every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language, saying, That every man should bear rule in his own house and that it should be published according to the language of every people.
