1 ¶ Verdad digo en Cristo, no miento, dándome testimonio mi conciencia en el Espíritu Santo,

¶ I say the truth in Christ, I do not lie, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit,

2 q ue tengo gran tristeza y continuo dolor en mi corazón.

that I have great sorrow and continual pain in my heart.

3 P orque deseara yo mismo ser anatema de Cristo por mis hermanos, los que son mis parientes según la carne;

For I could wish that myself were anathema from Christ for my brethren, those who are my kinsmen according to the flesh,

4 q ue son israelitas, de los cuales es la adopción (como hijos), y la gloria, y los Pactos, y la data de la ley y el culto y las promesas;

who are Israelites, to whom pertains the adoption as sons and the glory and the covenants and the giving of the law and the service of God and the promises,

5 c uyos son los padres, y de los cuales es el Cristo según la carne, el cual es Dios sobre todas las cosas, bendito por los siglos. Amén.

whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh is the Christ, who is God over all things, blessed for all the ages. Amen.

6 ¶ No que la Palabra de Dios haya faltado; porque no todos los que descienden de Israel son israelitas;

¶ Not as though the word of God has been deficient. For not all the descendants of Israel are Israelites;

7 n i por ser simiente de Abraham son todos hijos; sino: En Isaac te será llamada simiente.

neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are all sons, but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.

8 Q uiere decir: No los que son hijos de la carne, son los hijos de Dios; sino los que son hijos de la promesa, éstos son contados en la generación.

That is, Those who are sons of the flesh, these are not the sons of God; but those who are sons of the promise are counted in the generation.

9 P orque la palabra de la promesa es ésta: Como en este tiempo vendré, y tendrá Sara un hijo.

For the word of the promise is this, At this time I will come, and Sara shall have a son.

10 Y no sólo esto; mas también Rebeca concibiendo de uno, de Isaac nuestro padre

And not only this, but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac

11 ( porque no siendo aún nacidos, ni habiendo hecho aún ni bien ni mal, para que el propósito de Dios conforme a la elección, no por las obras sino por el que llama, permaneciere),

(for the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand: not of works, but of him that calls),

12 l e fue dicho que el mayor serviría al menor.

it was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.

13 C omo está escrito: A Jacob amé, mas a Esaú aborrecí.

As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

14 ¶ ¿Pues qué diremos? ¿Que hay injusticia en Dios? En ninguna manera.

¶ What shall we say then? Is there injustice in God? No, in no wise.

15 M as a Moisés dice: Tendré misericordia del que tendré misericordia, y me compadeceré del que me compadezca.

For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

16 A sí que no es del que quiere, ni del que corre, sino de Dios que tiene misericordia.

So then it is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that has mercy.

17 P orque la Escritura dice de Faraón: Que para esto mismo te he levantado, para mostrar en ti mi potencia, y que mi Nombre sea anunciado por toda la tierra.

For the scripture saith of Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might show my power in thee and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.

18 D e manera que del que quiere tiene misericordia; y al que quiere, endurece.

Therefore he has mercy on whom he will have mercy, and he hardens whom he will.

19 M e dirás pues: ¿Por qué, pues, se enoja? porque ¿quién resistirá a su voluntad?

Thou wilt say then unto me, Why does he become angry? For who shall resist his will?

20 M as antes, oh hombre, ¿quién eres tú, para que alterques con Dios? O dirá el vaso de barro al que lo labró: ¿Por qué me has hecho tal?

Rather, O man, who art thou to reply against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

21 ¿ O no tiene potestad el alfarero para hacer de la misma masa un vaso para honra, y otro para vergüenza?

Has not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour and another unto dishonour?

22 ¿ Y qué, si Dios, queriendo mostrar la ira y hacer notoria su potencia, soportó con mucha mansedumbre los vasos de ira, preparados para muerte;

What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make his power known, endured with much meekness the vessels of wrath, prepared for death,

23 y haciendo notorias las riquezas de su gloria para con los vasos de misericordia que él ha preparado para gloria?

and making known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he has prepared unto glory?

24 L os cuales también llamó, (a nosotros), ¡y no sólo de los judíos, sino también de los gentiles!

Even us, whom he has called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles!

25 ¶ Como también en Oseas dice: Llamaré al que no era mi pueblo, pueblo mío; y a la no amada, amada.

¶ As he saith also in Hosea, I will call them my people, who were not my people, and her beloved, who was not beloved.

26 Y será, que en el lugar donde les fue dicho: Vosotros no sois pueblo mío; allí serán llamados hijos del Dios viviente.

And it shall come to pass that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there shall they be called sons of the living God.

27 T ambién Isaías clama tocante a Israel: Si fuere el número de los hijos de Israel como la arena del mar, tan solo el remanente será salvo;

Isaiah also cries out concerning Israel, Though the number of the sons of Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant shall be saved;

28 c onsumación fenecida inunda justicia; porque sentencia abreviada, hará el Señor sobre la tierra.

when the consumption comes to an end, righteousness shall overflow, because a short sentence will the Lord execute upon the earth.

29 Y como antes dijo Isaías: Si el Señor de los ejércitos no nos hubiera dejado simiente, como Sodoma habríamos venido a ser, y a Gomorra fuéramos semejantes.

And as Isaiah said before, Except the Lord of the hosts had left us a seed, we had been as Sodom and been made like unto Gomorrha.

30 ¶ ¿Pues qué diremos? Que los gentiles que no seguían justicia, han alcanzado la justicia, es decir, la justicia que es por la fe;

¶ What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, who did not follow after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, that is to say, the righteousness which is by faith,

31 e Israel que seguía la ley de justicia, no ha llegado a la ley de la justicia.

and Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness.

32 ¿ Por qué? Porque la seguían no por fe, mas como por las obras (de la ley); por lo cual tropezaron en la piedra de tropiezo,

Why? Because they followed it not by faith but, as it were, by the works (of the law); therefore, they stumbled on the stumblingstone;

33 c omo está escrito: He aquí pongo en Sión piedra de tropiezo, y piedra de caída; y todo aquel que creyere en ella, no será avergonzado.

as it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock that will cause some to fall, and whosoever believes in him shall not be ashamed.
