1 ¶ Y subió Nahas amonita, y asentó campamento contra Jabes de Galaad. Y todos los de Jabes dijeron a Nahas: Haz alianza con nosotros, y te serviremos.

¶ Then Nahash, the Ammonite, came up and encamped against Jabeshgilead. And all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.

2 Y Nahas amonita les respondió: Con esta condición haré alianza con vosotros, que a cada uno de todos vosotros saque el ojo derecho, y ponga esta afrenta sobre todo Israel.

And Nahash, the Ammonite, answered them, On this condition will I make a covenant with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes and lay it for a reproach upon all Israel.

3 E ntonces los ancianos de Jabes le dijeron: Danos siete días, para que enviemos mensajeros a todos los términos de Israel; y si nadie hubiere que nos salve, saldremos a ti.

And the elders of Jabesh said unto him, Give us seven days’ respite, that we may send messengers unto all the borders of Israel, and then, if there is no one to save us, we will come out to thee.

4 Y llegando los mensajeros a Gabaa de Saúl, dijeron estas palabras en oídos del pueblo; y todo el pueblo lloró en alta voz.

Then the messengers came to Gibeah of Saul and told the tidings in the ears of the people, and all the people lifted up their voices and wept.

5 ¶ Y he aquí Saúl que venía del campo, tras los bueyes; y dijo Saúl: ¿Qué tiene el pueblo, que llora? Y le contaron las palabras de los varones de Jabes.

¶ And, behold, Saul came after the oxen out of the field, and Saul said, What ails the people that they weep? And they told him the tidings of the men of Jabesh.

6 Y el Espíritu de Dios prosperó a Saúl en oyendo estas palabras, y se encendió en ira en gran manera.

And the Spirit of God prospered Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly.

7 Y tomando un par de bueyes, los cortó en piezas, y los envió por todos los términos de Israel por mano de mensajeros, diciendo: Cualquiera que no saliere en pos de Saúl y en pos de Samuel, así será hecho a sus bueyes. Y cayó temor del SEÑOR sobre el pueblo, y salieron como un solo hombre.

And he took a yoke of oxen and hewed them in pieces and sent them throughout all the borders of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whoever does not come forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.

8 Y les contó en Bezec; y fueron los hijos de Israel trescientos mil, y treinta mil los varones de Judá.

And when he numbered them in Bezek, the sons of Israel were three hundred thousand and the men of Judah thirty thousand.

9 Y respondieron a los mensajeros que habían venido: Así diréis a los de Jabes de Galaad: Mañana al calentar el sol, tendréis salvación. Y vinieron los mensajeros, y lo declararon a los de Jabes, los cuales se alegraron.

And they said unto the messengers that came, Thus shall ye say unto the men of Jabeshgilead, Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, ye shall have salvation. And the messengers came and declared it to the men of Jabesh, and they were glad.

10 Y los de Jabes dijeron: Mañana saldremos a vosotros, para que hagáis con nosotros todo lo que bien os pareciere.

Therefore the men of Jabesh said, Tomorrow we will come out unto you, and ye shall do with us all that seems good unto you.

11 Y el día siguiente Saúl puso al pueblo en orden en tres escuadrones, y entraron en medio del real a la vela de la mañana, e hirieron a los amonitas hasta que el día calentaba; y los que quedaron fueron dispersos, tal que no quedaron dos de ellos juntos.

And it was so on the next day that Saul put the people in order in three companies, and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch and slew the Ammonites until the heat of the day, and it came to pass that those who remained were scattered so that two of them were not left together.

12 ¶ El pueblo entonces dijo a Samuel: ¿Quiénes son los que decían: Reinará Saúl sobre nosotros? Dadnos esos hombres, y los mataremos.

¶ Then the people said unto Samuel, Who were those that said, Shall Saul reign over us? Bring the men, that we may put them to death.

13 Y Saúl dijo: No morirá hoy ninguno, porque hoy ha obrado el SEÑOR salvación en Israel.

And Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death this day, for today the LORD has wrought salvation in Israel.

14 M as Samuel dijo al pueblo: Venid, vamos a Gilgal para que renovemos allí el reino.

Then Samuel said to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal and renew the kingdom there.

15 Y fue todo el pueblo a Gilgal, e invistieron allí a Saúl por rey delante del SEÑOR en Gilgal. Y sacrificaron allí víctimas pacíficas delante del SEÑOR; y se alegraron mucho allí Saúl y todos los de Israel.

And all the people went to Gilgal, and there they made Saul king before the LORD in Gilgal, and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the LORD, and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.
