1 A sí dijo el SEÑOR: He aquí que yo levanto sobre Babilonia, y sobre sus moradores que de corazón se levantan contra mí, un viento destruidor.

¶ Thus hath the LORD said; Behold, I raise up against Babylon and against her inhabitants that rise up against me from the heart, a destroying wind.

2 Y enviaré a Babilonia aventadores que la avienten, y vaciarán su tierra; porque serán contra ella de todas partes en el día del mal.

And I will send unto Babylon fanners that shall fan her and shall empty her land; for in the day of trouble they shall be against her round about.

3 D iré al flechero que entesa su arco, y al que se pone orgulloso con su loriga: No perdonéis a sus jóvenes, destruid todo su ejército.

I shall say to the archer that bends his bow and unto him that lifts himself up in his brigandine, Spare ye not her young men; utterly destroy all her host.

4 Y caerán muertos en la tierra de los caldeos, y alanceados en sus plazas.

Thus the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans and those that are thrust through in her streets.

5 P orque Israel y Judá no han enviudado de su Dios, el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, aunque su tierra fue llena de pecado contra el Santo de Israel.

For Israel and Judah have not been made widows of their God, of the LORD of the hosts, though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel.

6 H uid de en medio de Babilonia, y librad cada uno su alma, para que no perezcáis a causa de su iniquidad; porque el tiempo es de venganza del SEÑOR; le dará su pago.

Flee out of the midst of Babylon and deliver each one his soul that ye not perish because of her iniquity, for this is the time of the LORD’s vengeance; he will render unto her a recompense.

7 V aso de oro fue Babilonia en la mano del SEÑOR, que embriaga toda la tierra; de su vino bebieron los gentiles; por tanto, enloquecerán las naciones.

Babylon has been a golden cup in the LORD’s hand that made all the earth drunken: the Gentiles have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

8 E n un momento cayó Babilonia, y se quebrantó; aullad sobre ella; tomad bálsamo para su dolor, por ventura sanará.

Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed; howl for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.

9 C uramos a Babilonia, y no ha sanado; dejadla, y vámonos cada uno a su tierra; porque ha llegado hasta el cielo su juicio, y se ha alzado hasta las nubes.

We applied the medicine to Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go each one into his own land; for her judgment is come unto heaven and is lifted up even to the clouds.

10 E l SEÑOR sacó a luz nuestra justicia; venid, y contemos en Sion la obra del SEÑOR nuestro Dios.

The LORD has brought our righteousness to light; come, and let us declare in Zion the work of the LORD our God.

11 L impiad las saetas, embrazad los escudos; ha despertado el SEÑOR el espíritu de los reyes de Media; porque contra Babilonia es su pensamiento para destruirla; porque venganza es del SEÑOR, venganza es de su templo.

Make bright the arrows; gather the shields; the LORD has awakened the spirit of the kings of the Medes; for his thought is against Babylon to destroy her; for it is vengeance of the LORD, the vengeance of his temple.

12 L evantad bandera sobre los muros de Babilonia, reforzad la guardia, poned centinelas, disponed celadas; porque deliberó el SEÑOR, y aun pondrá en efecto lo que dijo sobre los moradores de Babilonia.

Set up the banner upon the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the watchmen, prepare the ambushes; for the LORD has deliberated and shall put into effect that which he spoke against the inhabitants of Babylon.

13 L a que moras entre muchas aguas, rica en tesoros, ha venido tu fin, la medida de tu codicia.

O thou that dwellest among many waters, rich in treasures, thine end is come, the measure of thy covetousness.

14 E l SEÑOR de los ejércitos juró por su vida, diciendo: Yo te llenaré de hombres como de langostas, y cantarán sobre ti canción de lagareros.

The LORD of the hosts has sworn by himself, saying, Surely I will fill thee with men as with locusts; and they shall sing the song of the winepress against thee.

15 E l es el que hace la tierra con su fortaleza, el que afirma el mundo con su sabiduría, y extiende los cielos con su inteligencia;

He is the one who makes the earth by his power; he upholds the world by his wisdom and extends the heavens by his intelligence;

16 e l que da con su voz multitud de aguas del cielo; después hace subir las nubes de lo postrero de la tierra; hace relámpagos con la lluvia, y saca el viento de sus tesoros.

he who gives with his voice a multitude of waters from heaven, then he causes the clouds to ascend from the ends of the earth; he makes lightnings with the rain and brings forth the wind out of his treasures.

17 T odo hombre se ha vuelto carnal, y es sin ciencia; avergüéncese todo artífice de la escultura, porque mentira es su vaciadizo, que no tiene aliento.

Every man has become carnal and is without knowledge; let every founder be ashamed of the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

18 V anidad son, obra de irrisiones; en el tiempo de su visitación perecerán.

They are vanity, the work of errors; in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

19 N o es como ellos la parte de Jacob; porque él es el Formador de todo; e Israel es la vara de su heredad, el SEÑOR de los ejércitos es su Nombre.

The portion of Jacob is not like them; for he is the Former of all things; and Israel is the rod of his inheritance; the LORD of the hosts is his name.

20 M artillo me sois, oh armas de guerra; y por medio de ti quebrantaré gentiles, y por medio de ti desharé reinos;

Thou art my hammer, O weapons of war: for with thee I will break in pieces the Gentiles, and with thee I will destroy kingdoms;

21 y por medio de ti quebrantaré caballos y sus cabalgadores, y por medio de ti quebrantaré carros y los que en ellos suben;

and with thee I will break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with thee I will break in pieces the chariots and their riders;

22 a simismo por medio de ti quebrantaré varones y mujeres, y por medio de ti quebrantaré viejos y mozos, y por medio de ti quebrantaré jóvenes y vírgenes;

with thee also I will break in pieces men and women; and with thee I will break in pieces old and young; and with thee I will break in pieces young men and virgins;

23 t ambién quebrantaré por medio de ti al pastor y a su manada; quebrantaré por medio de ti a labradores y sus yuntas; y duques y príncipes quebrantaré por medio de ti.

I will also break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his flock; and with thee I will break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee I will break in pieces dukes and princes.

24 Y pagaré a Babilonia y a todos los moradores de Caldea, todo el mal de ellos que hicieron en Sion delante de vuestros ojos, dijo el SEÑOR.

And I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, said the LORD.

25 H e aquí yo contra ti, oh Monte destruidor, dijo el SEÑOR, que destruiste toda la tierra; y extenderé mi mano sobre ti, y te haré rodar de las peñas, y te tornaré monte quemado.

Behold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, said the LORD, which destroys all the earth; and I will stretch out my hand upon thee and roll thee down from the rocks and will make thee a burnt mountain.

26 Y nadie tomará de ti piedra para esquina, ni piedra para cimiento; porque perpetuos asolamientos serás, dijo el SEÑOR.

And they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but thou shalt be desolate for ever, said the LORD.

27 A lzad bandera en la tierra, tocad shofar entre los gentiles, apercibid naciones contra ella; juntad contra ella los reinos de Ararat, de Mini, y de Askenaz; señalad contra ella capitán, haced subir caballos como langostas erizadas.

Set ye up a banner in the land, blow the shofar among the Gentiles, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz; appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up as raised up locusts.

28 A percibid contra ella naciones; a reyes de Media, a sus capitanes, y a todos sus príncipes, y a toda la tierra de su señorío.

Prepare the nations against her: the kings of Media, the captains thereof, and all the princes thereof, and all the land of their dominion.

29 Y temblará la tierra, y se afligirá; porque confirmado es contra Babilonia todo el pensamiento del SEÑOR, para poner la tierra de Babilonia en soledad, y que no haya morador.

And the land shall tremble and sorrow for every thought of the LORD is confirmed against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without an inhabitant.

30 L os valientes de Babilonia dejaron de pelear, se estuvieron en sus fuertes; les faltó su fortaleza, se tornaron como mujeres; encendieron los enemigos sus casas, quebraron sus cerrojos.

The mighty men of Babylon have forborne to fight; they have remained in their holds; their might has failed; they became as women: the enemies have burned her dwellingplaces; they have broken her bars.

31 C orreo se encontrará con correo, mensajero se encontrará con mensajero, para anunciar al rey de Babilonia que su ciudad es tomada por todas partes;

One post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to show the king of Babylon that his city is taken in all places,

32 y los vados fueron tomados, y los carrizos fueron quemados a fuego, y se asombraron los hombres de guerra.

And the fords were taken, and they have burned the reeds with fire, and the men of war were astounded.

33 P orque así dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: La hija de Babilonia es como parva; tiempo es ya de trillarla; de aquí a poco le vendrá el tiempo de la siega.

For thus hath the LORD of the hosts, the God of Israel said: The daughter of Babylon is like a threshingfloor; it is now time to thresh her: yet a little while, and the time of her harvest shall come.

34 M e comió, me desmenuzó Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia; me paró como vaso vacío; me tragó como dragón, llenó su vientre de mis delicadezas, y me echó.

Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me; he has crushed me; he has made me an empty vessel, he has swallowed me up like a dragon; he has filled his belly with my delicates; he has cast me out.

35 S obre Babilonia la violencia contra mí y mi carne, dirá la moradora de Sion; y mi sangre sobre los moradores de Caldea, dirá Jerusalén.

The violence against me and my flesh be upon Babylon, shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and my blood upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say.

36 P or tanto, así dijo el SEÑOR: He aquí que yo juzgo tu causa y haré tu venganza; y secaré su mar, y haré que quede seca su corriente.

Therefore thus hath the LORD said: Behold, I judge thy cause and shall take thy vengeance; and I will dry up her sea and make her flowing waters dry.

37 Y será Babilonia para montones, morada de dragones, espanto y silbo, sin morador.

And Babylon shall become heaps, a dwellingplace for dragons, an astonishment, and a hissing, without an inhabitant.

38 A una bramarán como leones; como cachorros de leones bramarán.

They shall roar together like lions; they shall roar as lions’ whelps.

39 E n su calor les pondré sus banquetes; y les haré que se embriaguen, para que se alegren, y duerman eterno sueño, y no despierten, dijo el SEÑOR.

In their heat I will place their feasts before them, and I will make them drunken that they may rejoice and sleep an eternal sleep and not wake, said the LORD.

40 L os haré traer como corderos al matadero, como carneros con cabros.

I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with he goats.

41 ¡ Cómo fue presa Sesac, y fue tomada la que era alabada por toda la tierra! ¡Cómo fue Babilonia por espanto entre los gentiles!

How is Sheshach a prey! and how is she who was the praise of the whole earth taken! how is Babylon become an astonishment among the Gentiles!

42 S ubió el mar sobre Babilonia; de la multitud de sus ondas fue cubierta.

The sea is come up upon Babylon; she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof.

43 S us ciudades fueron asoladas, la tierra seca y desierta, tierra que no morará en ella nadie, ni pasará por ella hijo de hombre.

Her cities were devastated, the land dry and desert, a land in which no man dwells, neither shall any son of man pass thereby.

44 Y visitaré al mismo Bel en Babilonia, y sacaré de su boca lo que ha tragado; y no vendrán más a él gentiles; y el muro de Babilonia caerá.

And I will visit Bel himself in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he has swallowed up; and the Gentiles shall not flow together any more unto him; and the wall of Babylon shall fall.

45 S alid de en medio de ella, pueblo mío, y salvad cada uno su vida de la ira del furor del SEÑOR.

Come out of the midst of her, my people, and save each one his life from the fierce anger of the LORD.

46 Y para que no desmaye vuestro corazón, y temáis a causa de la noticia que se oirá por la tierra, en un año vendrá la noticia, y después en otro año el rumor, y luego vendrá la violencia en la tierra, y el enseñoreador sobre el que enseñorea.

And lest your heart faint, and ye fear because of the news that shall be heard in the land; in one year shall the news come, and after that in the next year shall come the rumour, and then shall come the violence in the land, and the ruler over him who rules.

47 P or tanto, he aquí vienen días que yo visitaré las esculturas de Babilonia, y toda su tierra será avergonzada, y todos sus muertos caerán en medio de ella.

Therefore, behold, the days come that I will visit the graven images of Babylon; and her whole land shall be ashamed, and all her dead shall fall in the midst of her.

48 Y los cielos y la tierra, y todo lo que está en ellos, darán alabanzas sobre Babilonia; porque del aquilón vendrán sobre ella destruidores, dijo el SEÑOR.

Then the heavens and the earth and all that is therein shall sing praises over Babylon; for the destroyers shall come unto her from the north, said the LORD.

49 P ues que Babilonia fue la causa que cayeran los muertos de Israel, también por causa de Babilonia cayeron los muertos de toda la tierra.

As Babylon has caused the dead of Israel to fall, so because of Babylon the dead of all the earth fell.

50 L os que escapasteis de la espada, andad, no os detengáis; acordaos por muchos días del SEÑOR, y acordaos de Jerusalén.

Ye that have escaped the sword, go away, do not tarry: remember the LORD for many days, and remember Jerusalem.

51 E stamos avergonzados, porque oímos la afrenta; confusión cubrió nuestros rostros, porque vinieron extranjeros contra los Santuarios de la Casa del SEÑOR.

We are ashamed, because we have heard the reproach; confusion has covered our faces; for strangers are come against the sanctuaries of the LORD’s house.

52 P or tanto, he aquí vienen días, dijo el SEÑOR, que yo visitaré sus esculturas, y en toda su tierra gemirán los heridos de muerte.

Therefore, behold, the days come, said the LORD, that I will visit her graven images; and through all her land the wounded unto death shall groan.

53 S i subiera Babilonia al cielo, y si fortaleciere en lo alto su fuerza, de mí vendrán a ella destruidores, dijo el SEÑOR.

Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify her strength upon high, yet from me shall destroyers come unto her, said the LORD.

54 ¡ Sonido de grito de Babilonia, y quebrantamiento grande de la tierra de los caldeos!

The sound of a cry comes from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!

55 P orque el SEÑOR destruye a Babilonia, y quitará de ella el mucho estruendo; y bramarán sus ondas, como muchas aguas será el sonido de la voz de ellos;

Because the LORD destroys Babylon and takes out of her the many thunders, her waves shall roar; like many waters shall be the sound of their voice:

56 p orque vino destruidor contra ella, contra Babilonia, y sus valientes fueron presos, el arco de ellos fue quebrado; porque el SEÑOR, Dios de retribuciones, dará la paga.

because the destroyer is come against her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, their bow is broken: for the LORD God of recompenses shall surely requite.

57 Y embriagaré a sus príncipes y a sus sabios, a sus capitanes y a sus nobles y sus fuertes; y dormirán sueño eterno y no despertarán, dice el Rey, el SEÑOR de los ejércitos es su Nombre.

And I will make drunk her princes, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men; and they shall sleep an eternal sleep and shall not wake, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of the hosts.

58 A sí dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos: El muro ancho de Babilonia será derribado enteramente, y sus altas puertas serán quemadas a fuego; y en vano trabajarán pueblos y naciones en el fuego para salvarla, y se cansarán.

Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said; The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly cast down, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and peoples and nations shall labour in vain in the fire to save her, and they shall become weary.

59 P alabra que envió Jeremías, el profeta a Seraías hijo de Nerías, hijo de Maasías, cuando iba con Sedequías rey de Judá a Babilonia, el cuarto año de su reinado. Y era Seraías el principal camarero.

¶ The word which Jeremiah the prophet sent to Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah into Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And this Seraiah was the chief steward of the bedchambers.

60 E scribió, pues, Jeremías en un libro todo el mal que había de venir sobre Babilonia, todas las palabras que están escritas contra Babilonia.

So Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, even all these words that are written against Babylon.

61 Y dijo Jeremías a Seraías: Cuando llegares a Babilonia, y vieres y leyeres todas estas cosas,

And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When thou comest to Babylon and shalt see and shalt read all these things;

62 d irás: Oh SEÑOR, tú has dicho contra este lugar que lo habías de talar, hasta no quedar en él morador, ni hombre, ni animal, sino que para siempre ha de ser asolado.

then thou shalt say, O LORD, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that no one shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever.

63 Y será que cuando acabares de leer este libro, le atarás una piedra, y lo echarás en medio del Eufrates,

And it shall be, when thou hast made an end of reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of Euphrates;

64 y dirás: Así será anegada Babilonia, y no se levantará del mal que yo traigo sobre ella; y serán rendidos. Hasta aquí son las profecías de Jeremías.

and thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her: and they shall be overcome. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.
