1 ¶ ¿Qué, pues, diremos que halló Abraham, nuestro padre según la carne?

¶ What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, has found?

2 Q ue si Abraham fue justificado por la obras, tiene de qué gloriarse; mas no para con Dios.

For if Abraham were justified by works, he has reason to glory in himself, but not before God.

3 P orque ¿qué dice la Escritura?: Y creyó Abraham a Dios, y le fue atribuido a justicia.

For what does the scripture say? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

4 P ero al que obra, no se le cuenta el salario como gracia, sino como deuda.

But unto him that works, the reward is not reckoned as grace, but as debt.

5 M as al que no obra, sino cree en aquel que justifica al impío, la fe le es contada por justicia.

But to him that does not work, but believes in him that justifies the ungodly, the faith is counted as righteousness.

6 C omo también David dice ser bienaventurado el hombre al cual Dios atribuye justicia sin las obras,

Even as David also describes the blessedness of the man unto whom God doth attribute righteousness without works,

7 d iciendo: Bienaventurados aquellos cuyas iniquidades son perdonadas, y cuyos pecados son cubiertos.

saying, Blessed are those whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sins are covered.

8 B ienaventurado el varón al cual el Señor no imputó pecado.

Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute sin.

9 ¶ ¿ Es pues esta bienaventuranza solamente en la circuncisión o también en la incircuncisión? Porque decimos que a Abraham le fue contada la fe por justicia.

¶ Is this blessedness, therefore, only upon the circumcision or also upon the uncircumcision? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham as righteousness.

10 ¿ Cómo pues le fue contada? ¿En la circuncisión, o en la incircuncisión? No en la circuncisión, sino en la incircuncisión.

How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.

11 Y recibió la circuncisión por señal, por sello de la justicia de la fe que tuvo en la incircuncisión, para que fuera padre de todos los creyentes no circuncidados, para que también a ellos les sea contado por justicia;

And he received the circumcision as a sign, as a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had, yet being uncircumcised, that he might be the father of all the uncircumcised believers, that it might be counted unto them also as righteousness,

12 q ue sea padre de la circuncisión, no solamente a los que son de la circuncisión, sino también a los que siguen las pisadas de la fe que fue en nuestro padre Abraham antes de ser circuncidado.

that he be the father of the circumcision: not only to those who are of the circumcision, but also unto those who walk in the steps of the faith that was in our father Abraham before he was circumcised.

13 P orque no por la ley fue dada la promesa a Abraham o a su simiente, que sería heredero del mundo, sino por la justicia de la fe.

For the promise that he should be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

14 P orque si los que son de la ley son los herederos, vana es la fe, y anulada es la promesa.

For if those who are of the law are the heirs, faith is in vain, and the promise annulled,

15 P orque la ley obra ira; porque donde no hay ley, tampoco hay rebelión.

because the law works wrath; for where there is no law, there is no rebellion either.

16 P or tanto, por la fe, para que sea por gracia; para que la promesa sea firme a toda simiente, no solamente al que es de la ley, sino también al que es de la fe de Abraham, el cual es padre de todos nosotros.

Therefore by faith, that it might be by grace, to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to that which is of the law, but also to that which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all,

17 ¶ Como está escrito: Que por padre de muchos gentiles te he puesto delante de Dios, al cual creyó; el cual da vida a los muertos, y llama las cosas que no son, como las que son.

¶ as it is written, As a father of many Gentiles have I placed thee before God, whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which are not as those that are.

18 E l cual creyó para esperar contra esperanza, que sería hecho padre de muchos gentiles, conforme a lo que le había sido dicho: Así será tu simiente.

Who believed to wait against all hope, that he might become the father of many Gentiles, according to that which had been spoken unto him, So shall thy seed be.

19 Y no se enflaqueció en la fe, ni consideró su cuerpo ya muerto (siendo ya de casi cien años) ni muerta la matriz de Sara;

And he did not weaken in faith: he considered not his own body now dead when he was about one hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb;

20 t ampoco dudó en la promesa de Dios con desconfianza; antes fue esforzado en fe, dando gloria a Dios,

he doubted not the promise of God, with unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,

21 p lenamente convencido de que era también poderoso para hacer todo lo que había prometido,

being fully persuaded that he was also powerful to do all that he had promised;

22 p or lo cual también le fue atribuida su fe a justicia.

therefore, his faith was also attributed unto him as righteousness.

23 ¶ Y no está escrito esto solamente por él, que le haya sido así contado;

¶ Now it is not written for his sake alone that it was so reckoned to him,

24 s ino también por nosotros, a quienes será así contado, esto es, a los que creen en el que levantó de los muertos a Jesús, el Señor nuestro,

but for us also to whom it shall be so reckoned, that is, to those that believe in him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead,

25 e l cual fue entregado por nuestros delitos, y resucitado para nuestra justificación.

who was delivered for our offenses and was raised again for our justification.
