1 O íd esto, pueblos todos; escuchad, habitadores todos del mundo:

¶ Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:

2 A sí los hijos de los hombres como los hijos de los varones; el rico y el pobre juntamente.

Both low and high, rich and poor, together.

3 M i boca hablará sabiduría; y el pensamiento de mi corazón inteligencia.

My mouth shall speak wisdom; and the meditation of my heart intelligence.

4 A comodaré a ejemplos mi oído; declararé con el arpa mi enigma.

I will incline mine ear to a parable; I will declare my enigma upon the harp.

5 ¿ Por qué he de temer en los días de adversidad, cuando la iniquidad de mis calcañares me cercará?

Why should I fear in the days of adversity when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?

6 ¶ Los que confían en sus haciendas, y en la muchedumbre de sus riquezas se jactan,

¶ Those that trust in their wealth and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

7 n inguno de ellos podrá en manera alguna rescatar al hermano, ni dar a Dios propiciación por él.

none of them can by any means ransom his brother, nor give God an atonement for him;

8 ( Porque la redención de su vida es de gran precio, y no lo pueden hacer)

(for the redemption of their soul is of great price, and they shall never pay it)

9 q ue viva adelante para siempre, y nunca vea la sepultura.

that he should still live for ever and not see corruption.

10 P ues se ve que mueren todos los sabios; el loco y el ignorante perecen, y dejan a otros sus riquezas.

For he sees that all the wise men die, likewise the fool and the ignorant perish and leave their wealth to others.

11 E n su interior piensan que sus casas son eternas, y sus habitaciones para generación y generación; llamaron sus tierras de sus nombres.

Their inward thought is that their houses are eternal and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.

12 M as el hombre no permanecerá en honra; es semejante a las bestias que son cortadas.

Nevertheless man will not abide forever in honour; he is like the beasts that are cut off.

13 E ste es su camino, su locura; y sus descendientes corren por el dicho de ellos. (Selah.)

This their way is their folly; yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.

14 C omo ovejas son puestos en el Seol; la muerte los pastorea; y los rectos se enseñorearán de ellos por la mañana; y se consumirá su bien parecer en la sepultura desde su morada.

Like sheep they are laid in Sheol; death shall feed on them, and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning, and their beauty shall be consumed in the grave from their dwelling.

15 ¶ Ciertamente Dios rescatará mi vida de la mano del Seol, cuando me tomará. (Selah.)

¶ Surely God will ransom my soul from the hand of Sheol when he shall take me. Selah.

16 N o temas cuando se enriquece alguno, cuando aumenta la gloria de su casa;

Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;

17 p orque en su muerte no llevará nada, ni descenderá tras él su gloria.

for in his death he shall carry nothing away; nor shall his glory descend after him.

18 P orque mientras viviere, será su vida bendita; y tú serás loado cuando fueres próspero.

Though while he lives, his life shall be blessed: and men will praise thee when thou art prosperous.

19 E ntrará a la generación de sus padres; no verán luz para siempre.

He shall enter into the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light forever.

20 E l hombre en honra que no entiende, semejante es a las bestias que son cortadas.

Man that is in honour that does not understand is like the beasts that are cut off.
