1 Y Atalía madre de Ocozías, viendo que su hijo había muerto, se levantó, y destruyó toda la simiente real.

¶ And Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah, seeing that her son was dead, arose and destroyed all the royal seed.

2 P ero tomando Josaba hija del rey Joram, hermana de Ocozías, a Joás hijo de Ocozías, lo hurtó de entre los hijos del rey, que se mataban, y lo ocultó de delante de Atalía, a él y a su ama, en la cámara de las camas, y así no lo mataron.

But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash, the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons which were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.

3 Y estuvo con ella escondido en la Casa del SEÑOR seis años; y Atalía fue reina sobre la tierra.

And he was with her hid in the house of the LORD six years, and Athaliah was queen over the land.

4 M as al séptimo año envió Joiada, y tomó centuriones, capitanes, y gente de la guardia, y los metió consigo en la Casa del SEÑOR; e hizo pacto con ellos, juramentándolos en la Casa del SEÑOR; y les mostró al hijo del rey.

¶ But the seventh year Jehoiada sent and took rulers over hundreds, captains and people of the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the LORD and made a covenant with them, causing them to swear an oath in the house of the LORD, and he showed them the king’s son.

5 Y les mandó, diciendo: Esto es lo que habéis de hacer: la tercera parte de vosotros, los que entrarán el sábado, tendrán la guardia de la casa del rey;

And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing that ye shall do; a third part of you that shall enter in on the sabbath shall be the keepers of the watch of the king’s house;

6 y la otra tercera parte estará a la puerta del Shur, y la otra tercera parte a la puerta del postigo de los de la guardia; y tendréis la guardia de la casa de Mesah.

and a third part shall be at the gate of Sur; and a third part at the gate behind the guard; so ye shall have the watch of the house of Mesah.

7 Y las otras dos partes de vosotros, es a saber, todos los que salen el sábado, tendréis la guardia de la Casa del SEÑOR junto al rey.

And two parts of all you that go forth on the sabbath, even they shall keep the watch of the house of the LORD about the king.

8 Y estaréis alrededor del rey de todas partes, teniendo cada uno sus armas en las manos; y cualquiera que entrare dentro de estos órdenes, sea muerto. Y habéis de estar con el rey cuando saliere, y cuando entrare.

And ye shall compass the king round about, each man with his weapons in his hand; and he that comes within these orders shall be slain. Ye must be with the king as he goes out and as he comes in.

9 Y los centuriones hicieron todo como el sacerdote Joiada les mandó, tomando cada uno los suyos, es a saber, los que habían de entrar el sábado, y los que habían salido el sábado vinieron a Joiada el sacerdote.

And the captains over the hundreds did according to all that Jehoiada, the priest, commanded; and each man took his men that were to come in on the sabbath with those that should go out on the sabbath and came to Jehoiada, the priest.

10 Y el sacerdote dio a los centuriones las lanzas y los escudos que habían sido del rey David, que estaban en la Casa del SEÑOR.

And the priest gave the captains over hundreds King David’s spears and shields that were in the house of the LORD.

11 Y los de la guardia se pusieron de pie, teniendo cada uno sus armas en sus manos, desde el lado derecho de la Casa hasta el lado izquierdo, junto al altar y el templo, cerca del rey alrededor.

And the guard stood, each man with his weapons in his hand, round about the king, from the right corner of the house to the left corner of the house, next to the altar and the house.

12 S acando luego Joiada al hijo del rey, le puso la corona y el testimonio, y le hicieron rey ungiéndole; y batiendo las manos dijeron: ¡Viva el rey!

Then he brought forth the king’s son and put the crown upon him and gave him the testimony, and they made him king by anointing him; and they clapped their hands and said, Long live the king.

13 Y oyendo Atalía el estruendo del pueblo que corría, entró al pueblo en el templo del SEÑOR;

¶ And when Athaliah heard the noise of the people running, she came to the people into the house of the LORD;

14 y cuando miró, he aquí el rey que estaba junto a la columna, conforme a su derecho, y los príncipes y los trompeteros junto al rey; y que todo el pueblo de la tierra hacía alegrías, y que tocaban las trompetas. Entonces Atalía, rasgando sus vestidos, dio voces: ¡Conjuración, conjuración!

and when she looked, behold, the king stood by the pillar, as was his right, and the princes and the trumpeters by the king, and all the people of the land rejoiced and blew with trumpets. Then Athaliah rent her clothes and cried, Treason, Treason.

15 E ntonces el sacerdote Joiada mandó a los centuriones que gobernaban el ejército, y les dijo: Sacadla fuera de la orden de la Casa, y al que la siguiere, matadlo a espada. (Porque el sacerdote dijo que no la mataran en la Casa del SEÑOR).

Then Jehoiada, the priest, commanded the captains of the hundreds that governed the host and said unto them, Take her forth outside the order of the house and kill with the sword any that follow her. (For the priest had said, Let her not be slain in the house of the LORD.)

16 Y le echaron mano, y vino por el camino por donde entran los de a caballo a la casa del rey, y allí la mataron.

And they laid hands on her, and she went by the way by which the horsemen enter into the king’s house, and there she was slain.

17 ¶ Entonces Joiada hizo pacto entre el SEÑOR y el rey, y el pueblo, que serían pueblo del SEÑOR; y asimismo entre el rey y el pueblo.

¶ Then Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and the people, that they should be the LORD’s people; and likewise between the king and the people.

18 Y todo el pueblo de la tierra entró en el templo de Baal, y lo derribaron; y quebraron en menudas piezas sus altares y sus imágenes, y asimismo mataron a Matán sacerdote de Baal delante de los altares. Y el sacerdote puso guarnición sobre la Casa del SEÑOR.

And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal and broke it down; his altars and his images they broke in pieces thoroughly and slew Mattan, the priest of Baal, before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the LORD.

19 D espués tomó los centuriones, y capitanes y los de la guardia, y a todo el pueblo de la tierra, y llevaron al rey desde la Casa del SEÑOR, y vinieron por el camino de la puerta de los de la guardia a la casa del rey; y se sentó sobre el trono de los reyes.

And he took the rulers over hundreds and the captains and the guard and all the people of the land, and they brought down the king from the house of the LORD and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the king’s house. And he sat on the throne of the kings.

20 Y todo el pueblo de la tierra hizo alegrías, y la ciudad estuvo en reposo, habiendo sido Atalía muerta a espada junto a la casa del rey.

And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was at rest after they slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king’s house.

21 E ra Joás de siete años cuando comenzó a reinar.

Jehoash was seven years old when he began to reign.
