1 ¶ Y fue, que acabando Jesús de dar mandamientos a sus doce discípulos, se fue de allí a enseñar y a predicar en las ciudades de ellos.

¶ And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished giving commandments to his twelve disciples, he departed from there to teach and to preach in their cities.

2 Y oyendo Juan en la prisión los hechos de Cristo, le envió dos de sus discípulos,

Now when John had heard in the prison the works of the Christ, he sent two of his disciples,

3 d iciendo: ¿Eres tú aquel que había de venir, o esperaremos a otro?

and said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

4 Y respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Id, y haced saber a Juan las cosas que oís y veis:

Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and tell John those things which you hear and see:

5 L os ciegos ven, y los cojos andan; los leprosos son limpiados, y los sordos oyen; los muertos son resucitados, y el evangelio es predicado a los pobres.

The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

6 Y bienaventurado es el que no fuere escandalizado en mí.

And blessed is he who is not offended in me.

7 ¶ E idos ellos, comenzó Jesús a decir de Juan a la multitud: ¿Qué salisteis a ver al desierto? ¿ Una caña que es meneada del viento?

¶ And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

8 M as ¿qué salisteis a ver? ¿Un hombre cubierto de delicados vestidos? He aquí, los que traen vestidos delicados, en las casas de los reyes están.

But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, those that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.

9 M as ¿qué salisteis a ver? ¿Profeta? También os digo, y más que profeta.

But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.

10 P orque éste es de quien está escrito: He aquí, yo envío mi mensajero delante de tu faz, Que aparejará tu camino delante de ti.

For this is he of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.

11 D e cierto os digo, que no se levantó entre los que nacen de mujer otro mayor que Juan el Bautista; mas el que es más pequeño en el Reino de los cielos, mayor es que él.

Verily I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there has not risen a greater than John the Baptist; notwithstanding, he that is least in the kingdom of the heavens is greater than he.

12 D esde los días de Juan el Bautista hasta ahora, al Reino de los cielos se da vida; y los valientes lo arrebatan.

From the days of John the Baptist until now, life is given unto the kingdom of the heavens, and the valiant take hold of it.

13 P orque todos los profetas y la ley hasta Juan profetizaron.

For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

14 Y si queréis recibir, él es aquel Elías que había de venir.

And if ye will receive it, this is that Elijah who was to come.

15 E l que tiene oídos para oír, oiga.

He that has ears to hear, let him hear.

16 ¶ Mas ¿a quién compararé esta generación? Es semejante a los muchachos que se sientan en las plazas, y dan voces a sus compañeros,

¶ But unto whom shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets and shouting unto their fellows

17 Y dicen: Os tañimos flauta, y no bailasteis; os endechamos, y no lamentasteis.

and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.

18 P orque vino Juan, que ni comía ni bebía, y dicen: Demonio tiene.

For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He has a devil.

19 V ino el Hijo del hombre, que come y bebe, y dicen: He aquí un hombre glotón y bebedor de vino, amigo de publicanos y de pecadores. Mas la sabiduría es aprobada por sus hijos.

The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a gluttonous man and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified by her children.

20 E ntonces comenzó a reconvenir el beneficio a las ciudades en las cuales habían sido hechas muchas de sus maravillas, porque no se habían enmendado, diciendo:

Then he began to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done because they repented not:

21 ¡ Ay de ti, Corazín! ¡Ay de ti, Betsaida! Porque si en Tiro y en Sidón fueran hechas las maravillas que han sido hechas en vosotras, en otro tiempo se hubieran arrepentido en cilicio y en ceniza.

Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

22 P or tanto yo os digo, que a Tiro y a Sidón será más tolerable el castigo en el día del juicio, que a vosotras.

But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment than for you.

23 Y tú, Capernaum, que eres levantada hasta el cielo, hasta el Hades serás abatida; porque si en los de Sodoma fueran hechas las maravillas que han sido hechas en ti, hubiera quedado hasta el día de hoy.

And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to Hades, for if the mighty works which have been done in thee had been done in those of Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

24 P or tanto yo os digo, que a la tierra de los de Sodoma será más tolerable el castigo en el día del juicio, que a ti.

Therefore I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for thee.

25 ¶ En aquel tiempo, respondiendo Jesús, dijo: Te alabo, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, que hayas escondido esto de los sabios y de los entendidos, y lo hayas revelado a los niños.

¶ At that time Jesus answered and said, I praise thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and understanding and hast revealed them unto children.

26 S í, Padre, porque así agradó en tus ojos.

Even so, Father, for thus it was pleasing in thy sight.

27 T odas las cosas me son entregadas de mi Padre; y nadie conoció al Hijo, sino el Padre; ni al Padre conoció alguno, sino el Hijo, y aquel a quien el Hijo lo quiera revelar.

All things are delivered unto me of my Father, and no one has known the Son but the Father, neither has anyone known the Father except the Son and he unto whom the Son will reveal him.

28 V enid a mí todos los que estáis trabajados y cargados, que yo os haré descansar.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 L levad mi yugo sobre vosotros, y aprended de mí, que soy manso y humilde de corazón; y hallaréis descanso para vuestras almas.

Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and humble of heart, and ye shall find rest for your souls.

30 P orque mi yugo es fácil, y ligera mi carga.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
