1 H e aquí que todas estas cosas han visto mis ojos, y oído y entendido mis oídos.

¶ Behold, my eyes have seen all this; my ears have heard and understood it.

2 C omo vosotros lo sabéis, lo sé yo; no soy menos que vosotros.

As you know it, I know it; I am not inferior unto you.

3 M as yo hablaría con el Todopoderoso, y querría disputar con Dios.

But I would speak with the Almighty, and I desired to dispute with God.

4 Q ue ciertamente vosotros sois fraguadores de mentira; sois todos vosotros médicos nulos.

That ye are certainly forgers of lies; ye are all physicians of no value.

5 M ejor sería que callarais del todo, porque os fuera en lugar de sabiduría.

O that ye would altogether be silent! And it would be unto you instead of wisdom.

6 O íd, pues, ahora mi disputa, y estad atentos a los argumentos de mis labios.

Hear now my dispute, and hearken to the arguments of my lips.

7 ¿ Habéis de hablar iniquidad por Dios? ¿Habéis de hablar por él engaño?

Are ye to speak iniquity for God? Are ye to speak deceitfully for him?

8 ¿ Habéis vosotros de hacerle honra? ¿Habéis de pleitear vosotros por Dios?

Are ye to bring honour unto him? Are ye to contend for God?

9 ¿ Sería bueno que él os escudriñare? ¿Os burlaréis de él como quien se burla de algún hombre?

Would it be good for him to search you out? As one man mocks another, do ye so mock him?

10 E l os redargüirá duramente, si en lo secreto le hicieres tal honra.

He will reprove you severely, if in secret you give him such honour.

11 D e cierto su alteza os había de espantar, y su pavor había de caer sobre vosotros.

Certainly his excellency should make you afraid, and his dread should fall upon you.

12 V uestras memorias serán comparadas a la ceniza, y vuestros cuerpos como cuerpos de lodo.

Your memories shall be compared unto ashes, your bodies to bodies of clay.

13 ¶ Escuchadme, y hablaré yo, y que me venga después lo que viniere.

¶ Listen to me, and I will speak, and afterward let come on me what will.

14 ¿ Por qué quitaré yo mi carne con mis dientes, y pondré mi alma en mi palma?

Why shall I take my flesh in my teeth and put my life in the palm of my hand?

15 H e aquí, aunque me matare, en él esperaré; pero defenderé delante de él mis caminos.

Though he slay me, yet I will trust in him; but I will defend my ways before him.

16 Y él mismo me será salud, porque no entrará en su presencia el hipócrita.

He also shall be my saving health; for the hypocrite shall not enter into his presence.

17 O íd con atención mi razón, y mi denuncia con vuestros oídos.

Hear diligently my reason and my declaration with your ears.

18 H e aquí ahora, si yo me apercibiere a juicio, sé que seré justificado.

Behold now, if I draw near unto the judgment; I know that I shall be justified.

19 ¿ Quién es el que pleiteará conmigo? Porque si ahora yo callara, moriría.

Who is he that will contend with me? For now, if I remain silent, I shall die.

20 C oncédame por lo menos éstas dos cosas; y entonces no me esconderé de tu rostro:

At the least, grant me these two things; then I will not hide myself from thee:

21 A parta de mí tu mano, y no me asombre tu terror.

withdraw thy hand from me; and let not thy dread make me afraid.

22 L lama luego, y yo responderé; o yo hablaré, y respóndeme tú.

Then call, and I will answer; or let me speak, and answer thou me.

23 ¿ Cuántas iniquidades y pecados tengo yo? Hazme conocer mi prevaricación y mi pecado.

¶ How many are my iniquities and sins? Make me to know my transgression and my sin.

24 ¿ Por qué escondes tu rostro, y me cuentas por tu enemigo?

Why dost thou hide thy face, and hold me for thine enemy?

25 ¿ A la hoja arrebatada has de quebrantar? ¿Y a una arista seca has de perseguir?

Wilt thou break a leaf driven to and fro? Wilt thou pursue the dry stubble?

26 ¿ Por qué escribes contra mí amarguras, y me haces cargo de las iniquidades de mi juventud?

Why dost thou write bitter things against me and make me carry the iniquities of my youth.

27 P ones además mis pies en el cepo, y guardas todos mis caminos, imprimiéndolo a las raíces de mis pies.

Thou dost put my feet also in the stocks and look narrowly unto all my paths; thou dost set a print upon the heels of my feet.

28 S iendo el hombre como carcoma que se va gastando, como vestido que se come de polilla.

And man, is as a rotten thing that is being consumed, as a garment that is moth eaten.
