4 F rancamente, ustedes son unos embusteros; como médicos, son unos charlatanes.

That ye are certainly forgers of lies; ye are all physicians of no value.

5 ¡ Cómo quisiera que cerraran la boca! ¡Eso, en ustedes, ya sería sabiduría!

O that ye would altogether be silent! And it would be unto you instead of wisdom.

6 P ero les pido que escuchen mis razones, y que presten atención a mis argumentos.

Hear now my dispute, and hearken to the arguments of my lips.

7 ¿ Van a hablar falsedades en nombre de Dios? ¿Van a proferir engaños en su nombre?

Are ye to speak iniquity for God? Are ye to speak deceitfully for him?

8 ¿ Van a ponerse de su parte? ¿Se sienten capaces de defenderlo?

Are ye to bring honour unto him? Are ye to contend for God?

9 Y , si él investigara todo lo que ocultan, ¿se burlarían de él, como se burlan de mí?

Would it be good for him to search you out? As one man mocks another, do ye so mock him?

10 A l contrario, Dios les echaría en cara que con dolo favorezcan a unos y a otros no.

He will reprove you severely, if in secret you give him such honour.

11 S eguramente su grandeza los llenaría de temor, y sobre ustedes dejaría caer su pavor.

Certainly his excellency should make you afraid, and his dread should fall upon you.

12 ¡ Ustedes citan proverbios sin sustento, y su defensa se desmorona, como el lodo!

Your memories shall be compared unto ashes, your bodies to bodies of clay.

13 » Escuchen lo que tengo que decir; no importa qué me pueda suceder.

¶ Listen to me, and I will speak, and afterward let come on me what will.

14 ¿ Por qué habría yo de hacerme daño, y atentar contra mi propia vida?

Why shall I take my flesh in my teeth and put my life in the palm of my hand?

15 A unque el Señor me mate, yo en él confío; pero en su cara defenderé mis actos.

Though he slay me, yet I will trust in him; but I will defend my ways before him.

16 E sto podría significar mi salvación, pues Dios no tolera al malvado en su presencia.

He also shall be my saving health; for the hypocrite shall not enter into his presence.

17 P resten atención a mis razones; presten oído a mis declaraciones.

Hear diligently my reason and my declaration with your ears.

18 V oy a exponerles mi caso, y sé muy bien que seré justificado.

Behold now, if I draw near unto the judgment; I know that I shall be justified.

19 ¿ Quién quiere ser la parte acusadora? Si me hacen callar, aceptaré la muerte.

Who is he that will contend with me? For now, if I remain silent, I shall die.

20 » Dios mío, concédeme dos favores para que no me esconda de ti:

At the least, grant me these two things; then I will not hide myself from thee:

21 D eja ya de castigarme, y no sigas infundiéndome terror.

withdraw thy hand from me; and let not thy dread make me afraid.

22 S i tú me llamas, yo te responderé; si yo te llamo, tú tendrás que responderme.

Then call, and I will answer; or let me speak, and answer thou me.

23 ¿ Cuál es mi maldad? ¿Cuál es mi pecado? ¡Dime en qué te he ofendido!

¶ How many are my iniquities and sins? Make me to know my transgression and my sin.

24 ¿ Por qué me das la espalda? ¿Por qué me consideras tu enemigo?

Why dost thou hide thy face, and hold me for thine enemy?

25 ¿ Vas a perseguir a una hoja en el viento? ¿Vas a ir tras la paja seca?

Wilt thou break a leaf driven to and fro? Wilt thou pursue the dry stubble?

26 ¿ Por qué me prescribes tragos amargos y me imputas los pecados de mi juventud?

Why dost thou write bitter things against me and make me carry the iniquities of my youth.

27 M e sujetas los pies con cadenas, me vigilas por dondequiera que voy, y sigues la huella de mis pasos.

Thou dost put my feet also in the stocks and look narrowly unto all my paths; thou dost set a print upon the heels of my feet.

28 M i cuerpo se desgasta como odre viejo; ¡se deshace como vestido apolillado!»

And man, is as a rotten thing that is being consumed, as a garment that is moth eaten.
