1 B ooz se dirigió a la entrada de la ciudad, y allí se sentó. En ese momento vio pasar al pariente del cual le había hablado a Rut, y le dijo: «Hermano, ven y siéntate aquí conmigo.» El pariente fue y se sentó.

¶ And Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there, and, behold, the redeemer of whom Boaz spoke came by unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! Come here and sit down. And he came and sat down.

2 E ntonces Booz llamó a diez de los ancianos de la ciudad, y les dijo: «Siéntense también con nosotros.» En cuanto ellos se sentaron,

Then he took ten men of the elders of the city and said, Sit down here. And they sat down.

3 B ooz le dijo a su pariente: «Noemí ha vuelto de Moab, y vende una parte de las tierras que fueron de nuestro pariente Elimelec.

And he said unto the redeemer, Naomi, that is come again out of the field of Moab, sold a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech’s,

4 C reo conveniente que lo sepas, y te sugiero comprar sus tierras, teniendo como testigos a los aquí presentes, ancianos de mi pueblo. Si quieres comprar, compra; si no quieres comprar, dímelo, pues tengo que saberlo. Y es que nadie más puede comprar sino sólo tú, y después de ti, yo.» Y el pariente respondió: «Está bien. Compro el terreno.»

and I decided to cause thee to know this and tell thee to take it before the inhabitants and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it, but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me that I may know, for there is no one to redeem it besides thee, and I after thee. And he said, I will redeem it.

5 E ntonces añadió Booz: «Al comprar las tierras de Noemí, debes también tomar por mujer a Rut, la moabita que fue mujer del difunto, para que la posesión siga a nombre de su esposo muerto.»

Then Boaz replied, The day that thou dost receive the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must also receive Ruth, the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.

6 E ntonces el pariente respondió: «Si es así, no puedo comprar las tierras, porque no quiero poner en riesgo mi heredad. Compra tú. Te cedo mis derechos.»

And the redeemer said, I cannot redeem it for myself lest I ruin my own inheritance; redeem thou; I cede my right to you, for I shall not be able to redeem it.

7 D esde hacía mucho tiempo, había una costumbre en Israel, que en una compra por rescate, una de las partes se quitaba su sandalia y se la daba al otro. Con este acto se confirmaba el trato ante todo Israel.

Now for a long time in Israel there had been this custom concerning redemption or contracts, that for the confirmation of all matters: one plucked off his shoe and gave it to his neighbour, and this was a testimony in Israel.

8 A sí que el pariente se quitó el zapato y le dijo a Booz: «Toma tú posesión de las tierras.»

Therefore, the former owner of the right of redemption said unto Boaz, Buy it thyself. So he drew off his shoe.

9 E ntonces Booz les dijo a los ancianos y a todo el pueblo: «Ustedes son testigos de que hoy le compro a Noemí todo lo que fue de su esposo Elimelec, y de sus hijos Quelión y Majlón.

¶ And Boaz said unto the elders and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day that I have bought all that was Elimelech’s and all that was Chilion’s and Mahlon’s, of the hand of Naomi.

10 A demás, tomo por esposa a la moabita Rut, que fue mujer de Majlón, para que la posesión siga a nombre de su esposo muerto, y su memoria no se borre de entre sus hermanos ni de su ciudad. Ustedes son testigos hoy de este acuerdo.»

Moreover, I also take Ruth, the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, as my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance that the name of the dead not be cut off from among his brethren and from the gate of his place. Ye shall be witnesses of this today.

11 E l pueblo y los ancianos que estaban a la entrada de la ciudad dijeron: «Somos testigos. Que el Señor permita que la mujer que llega a tu casa sea como Raquel y Lea, las cuales levantaron como pueblo a los israelitas. Que seas tú un hombre ilustre y distinguido en Efrata y en Belén.

And all the people that were in the gate and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into thy house like Rachel and like Leah, who built the house of Israel; and be thou a man of valour in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem;

12 Q ue el Señor te conceda tener con Rut muchos hijos, como se los concedió a Fares, el hijo de Tamar y Judá.»

let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bore unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman.

13 A sí fue como Booz tomó a Rut por esposa, y se allegó a ella, y el Señor le concedió quedar embarazada y dar a luz un hijo.

¶ So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife, and when he went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bore a son.

14 L as mujeres le decían a Noemí: «¡Alabado sea el Señor, que te concedió tener un nieto que te rescatara! ¡Su nombre será celebrado entre los israelitas!

And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the LORD, who has not left thee this day without a redeemer, whose name shall be famous in Israel.

15 E se niño te infundirá nuevos ánimos, y te brindará apoyo en tu vejez. Tu nuera, que te ama y dio a luz ese niño, es de más valor para ti que siete hijos.»

And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy soul and a sustainer in thy old age, for thy daughter-in-law, whom thou doth love, who is better to thee than seven sons, has given birth.

16 N oemí tomó al niño y lo puso en su regazo, y se encargó de criarlo.

And Naomi took the child and laid it in her bosom and was his nurse.

17 Y las vecinas decían: «Noemí ha tenido un hijo» Y lo llamaron Obed. Éste fue el padre de Yesé, que fue padre de David.

And the women, her neighbours, named him, saying, There is a son born to Naomi, and they called his name Obed. This is the father of Jesse, the father of David.

18 É stas son las generaciones de Fares: Fares fue padre de Jesrón;

Now these are the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron,

19 J esrón fue padre de Ram, y Ram fue padre de Aminadab.

and Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab,

20 A minadab fue padre de Nasón, y Nasón fue padre de Salmón.

and Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon,

21 S almón fue padre de Booz, y Booz fue padre de Obed.

and Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed,

22 O bed fue padre de Yesé, y Yesé fue padre de David.

and Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.
