¶ Now the Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines and fell down slain in Mount Gilboa.

2 L os filisteos persiguieron a Saúl y a sus hijos, y mataron a Jonatán, Abinadab y Malquisúa.

And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons, and the Philistines slew Jonathan and Abinadab and Malchishua, Saul’s sons.

3 A l arreciar la batalla contra Saúl, los flecheros lo alcanzaron, y él se llenó de pánico.

And the battle went heavily against Saul, and the archers found him, and he was sore afraid of the archers.

4 E ntonces le dijo a su escudero: «Saca tu espada y clávamela, no sea que estos incircuncisos vengan y me maten, y se burlen de mí.» Pero su escudero no quiso hacerlo, porque tenía mucho miedo. Entonces Saúl sacó su propia espada, y se arrojó sobre ella.

Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword and thrust me through with it lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not, for he was sore afraid. Therefore, Saul took his sword and fell upon it.

5 C uando su escudero vio muerto a Saúl, también él se arrojó sobre su espada y murió junto con Saúl.

And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword and died with him.

6 A sí murieron ese día Saúl y sus tres hijos, junto con su escudero y todos sus soldados.

So Saul died and his three sons and his armourbearer and all his men that same day together.

7 C uando los israelitas que estaban en el otro lado del valle, del otro lado del Jordán, vieron que el ejército de Israel huía, y que Saúl y sus hijos habían muerto, abandonaron sus ciudades y huyeron, y los filisteos llegaron y las ocuparon.

And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley and those that were on the other side of the Jordan saw that the men of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

8 A l día siguiente, cuando los filisteos llegaron para despojar a los muertos, hallaron a Saúl y a sus tres hijos tendidos en el monte Gilboa.

¶ And it came to pass on the next day when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in Mount Gilboa.

9 E ntonces los despojaron de sus armas y les cortaron la cabeza, y enviaron mensajeros por toda la tierra de los filisteos, para dar la noticia al pueblo y al templo de sus dioses.

And they cut off his head and stripped off his weapons and sent them into the land of the Philistines round about to publish it in the house of their idols and among the people.

10 P usieron las armas de Saúl en el templo de Astarot, y colgaron su cuerpo en la muralla de Betsán.

And they put his weapons in the house of Ashtaroth, and they fastened his body to the wall of Bethshan.

11 Y cuando los de Jabés de Galaad supieron lo que los filisteos habían hecho con Saúl,

And when the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul,

12 t odos los más aguerridos se dispusieron a caminar toda esa noche, y llegaron hasta los muros de Betsán y quitaron de allí los cuerpos de Saúl y de sus hijos, y los llevaron a Jabés y los quemaron allí.

all the valiant men arose and went all night and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Bethshan and came to Jabesh and burnt them there.

13 A llí también enterraron sus huesos debajo de un árbol, y ayunaron siete días.

And they took their bones and buried them under a tree at Jabesh and fasted seven days.
