1 « Yo amé a Israel desde que era un niño. De Egipto llamé a mi hijo.

¶ When Israel was a boy, I loved him and called my son out of Egypt.

2 P ero mientras más los llamaba yo, más se alejaban de mí, y ofrecían sacrificios a los baales y quemaban incienso para honrar a los ídolos.

As they called them, so they went from them; they sacrificed unto Baalim, and burned incense to graven images.

3 » Yo tomé en mis brazos a Efraín y le enseñé a caminar, pero él nunca reconoció que era yo quien lo cuidaba.

Even with all this I guided the feet of this same Ephraim, taking them by their arms; but they did not know that I cared for them.

4 Y o los atraje a mí con cuerdas humanas, ¡con cuerdas de amor! Estaban sometidos al yugo de la esclavitud, pero yo les quité ese yugo y les di de comer.

I drew them with human cords, with bands of love, and I was to them as those that raise the yoke from upon their cheeks, and I fed them.

5 » Pero no quisieron volverse a mí. Por eso, no volverán a Egipto, sino que el asirio mismo será su rey.

He shall not return into the land of Egypt, but the Assyrian shall be his king because they refused to be converted.

6 L a espada caerá sobre sus ciudades, y acabará con sus aldeas. Acabará con ellas por causa de sus malas intenciones.

And the sword shall fall upon his cities and shall consume his villages and devour them because of their own counsels.

7 M i pueblo insiste en rebelarse contra mí; me llaman el Dios Altísimo, pero ninguno de ellos me quiere enaltecer.

Meanwhile, my people adhere to the rebellion against me though they call unto me upon High; absolutely none at all wish to exalt me.

8 » ¿Cómo podría yo abandonarte, Efraín? ¿Podría yo entregarte, Israel? ¿Podría yo hacerte lo mismo que hice con Adma y con Zeboyin? Dentro de mí, el corazón se me estremece, toda mi compasión se inflama.

¶ How must I leave thee, Ephraim? how shall I give thee up, Israel? how could I make thee as Admah? nor set thee as Zeboim? my heart churns within me; all my compassion is inflamed.

9 P ero no daré paso al ardor de mi ira, ni volveré a destruir a Efraín. Dentro de esta ciudad estoy yo, el Dios Santo, y no un simple hombre. Así que no entraré en la ciudad.

I will not execute the fierceness of my anger; I will not return to destroy Ephraim; for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee; and I will not enter into the city.

10 » Ellos vendrán en pos de mí. Yo, el Señor, rugiré como un león, y mis hijos vendrán temblando desde el occidente.

They shall walk after the LORD; he shall roar like a lion; when he shall roar, then the sons shall come trembling from the west.

11 S aldrán de Egipto temblorosos como aves. Saldrán de Asiria temblorosos como palomas. Yo haré que vuelvan a habitar sus casas. —Palabra del Señor.

As a bird they shall move speedily out of Egypt, and as a dove out of the land of Assyria; and I will place them in their houses, saith the LORD.

12 » Efraín siempre me habla con mentiras, y la casa de Israel siempre me habla con engaños. Judá anda perdido, lejos de mí, su Dios santo y fiel.»

Ephraim compasses me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit; but Judah yet rules with God and is faithful with the saints.
