1 C uando el Señor supo que los fariseos habían oído decir: «Jesús hace y bautiza más discípulos que Juan»

¶ When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John

2 ( aunque en realidad Jesús no bautizaba, sino sus discípulos),

(though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples),

3 s alió de Judea, y se fue otra vez a Galilea.

he left Judaea and departed again into Galilee.

4 L e era necesario pasar por Samaria,

¶ And it was necessary that he go through Samaria.

5 a sí que fue a una ciudad llamada Sicar, la cual está junto a la heredad que Jacob le dio a su hijo José.

Then he came to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

6 A llí estaba el pozo de Jacob, y como Jesús estaba cansado del camino, se sentó allí, junto al pozo. Eran casi las doce del día.

Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus, therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well; and it was about the sixth hour.

7 U na mujer de Samaria vino a sacar agua, y Jesús le dijo: «Dame de beber.»

There came a woman of Samaria to draw water; Jesus said unto her, Give me to drink.

8 Y es que sus discípulos habían ido a la ciudad para comprar de comer.

(For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy food.)

9 L a samaritana le dijo: «¿Y cómo es que tú, que eres judío, me pides de beber a mí, que soy samaritana?» Y es que los judíos y los samaritanos no se tratan entre sí.

Then said the Samaritan woman unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, who am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.

10 J esús le respondió: «Si conocieras el don de Dios, y quién es el que te dice: “Dame de beber”; tú le pedirías a él, y él te daría agua viva.»

Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink, thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

11 L a mujer le dijo: «Señor, no tienes con qué sacar agua, y el pozo es hondo. Así que, ¿de dónde tienes el agua viva?

The woman said unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep; from where then hast thou that living water?

12 ¿ Acaso eres tú mayor que nuestro padre Jacob, que nos dio este pozo, del cual bebieron él, sus hijos y sus ganados?»

Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank thereof himself, and his sons and his cattle?

13 J esús le respondió: «Todo el que beba de esta agua, volverá a tener sed;

Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinks of this water shall thirst again,

14 p ero el que beba del agua que yo le daré, no tendrá sed jamás. Más bien, el agua que yo le daré será en él una fuente de agua que fluya para vida eterna.»

but whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a fountain of water springing up into eternal life.

15 L a mujer le dijo: «Señor, dame de esa agua, para que yo no tenga sed ni venga aquí a sacarla.»

The woman said unto him, Lord, give me this water, that I not thirst, neither come here to draw.

16 J esús le dijo: «Ve a llamar a tu marido, y luego vuelve acá.»

Jesus said unto her, Go, call thy husband and come here.

17 L a mujer le dijo: «No tengo marido.» Jesús le dijo: «Haces bien en decir que no tienes marido,

The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband;

18 p orque ya has tenido cinco maridos, y el que ahora tienes no es tu marido. Esto que has dicho es verdad.»

for thou hast had five husbands, and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband; this hast thou said with truth.

19 L a mujer le dijo: «Señor, me parece que tú eres profeta.

The woman said unto him, Lord, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

20 N uestros padres adoraron en este monte, y ustedes dicen que el lugar donde se debe adorar es Jerusalén.»

Our fathers worshipped in this mountain, and ye say that in Jerusalem is the place where it is necessary to worship.

21 J esús le dijo: «Créeme, mujer, que viene la hora cuando ni en este monte ni en Jerusalén adorarán ustedes al Padre.

Jesus said unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour comes when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem shall ye worship the Father.

22 U stedes adoran lo que no saben; nosotros adoramos lo que sabemos; porque la salvación viene de los judíos.

Ye worship what ye know not; we worship what we know, for saving health is of the Jews.

23 P ero viene la hora, y ya llegó, cuando los verdaderos adoradores adorarán al Padre en espíritu y en verdad; porque también el Padre busca que lo adoren tales adoradores.

But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father seeks such to worship him.

24 D ios es Espíritu; y es necesario que los que lo adoran, lo adoren en espíritu y en verdad.»

God is a Spirit and those that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

25 L e dijo la mujer: «Yo sé que el Mesías, llamado el Cristo, ha de venir; y que cuando él venga nos explicará todas las cosas.»

The woman said unto him, I know that the Messiah is to come, who is called the Christ; when he is come, he will declare unto us all things.

26 J esús le dijo: «Yo soy, el que habla contigo.»

Jesus said unto her, I AM that speak unto thee.

27 E n esto vinieron sus discípulos, y se asombraron de que hablaba con una mujer; sin embargo, ninguno le dijo: «¿Qué pretendes? ¿O de qué hablas con ella?»

¶ And upon this came his disciples and marvelled that he talked with that woman; yet no one said, What askest thou? or, What talkest thou with her?

28 L a mujer dejó entonces su cántaro y fue a la ciudad, y les dijo a los hombres:

The woman then left her waterpot and went into the city and said to those men,

29 « Vengan a ver a un hombre que me ha dicho todo cuanto he hecho. ¿No será éste el Cristo?»

Come, see a man who told me all that I have done; is perchance this the Christ?

30 E ntonces ellos salieron de la ciudad, y fueron a donde estaba Jesús.

Then they went out of the city and came unto him.

31 M ientras tanto, con ruegos los discípulos le decían: «Rabí, come.»

In the meanwhile his disciples entreated him, saying, Rabbi, eat.

32 P ero él les dijo: «Para comer, yo tengo una comida que ustedes no conocen.»

But he said unto them, I have a food to eat that ye know not of.

33 L os discípulos se decían unos a otros: «¿Alguien le habrá traído algo para comer?»

Therefore said the disciples one to another, Has anyone brought him anything to eat?

34 J esús les dijo: «Mi comida es hacer la voluntad del que me envió, y llevar a cabo su obra.

Jesus said unto them, My food is to do the will of him that sent me and to finish his work.

35 ¿ Acaso no dicen ustedes: “Aún faltan cuatro meses para el tiempo de la siega”? Pues yo les digo: Alcen los ojos, y miren los campos, porque ya están blancos para la siega.

Do ye not say, There are yet four months and then comes harvest? Behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes and look on the fields, for they are white already to harvest.

36 Y el que siega recibe su salario y recoge fruto para vida eterna, para que se alegren por igual el que siembra y el que siega.

And he that reaps receives wages and gathers fruit unto eternal life, that both he that sows and he that reaps may rejoice together.

37 P orque en este caso es verdad lo que dice el dicho: “Uno es el que siembra, y otro es el que siega.”

And herein is that saying true, One sows and another reaps.

38 Y o los he enviado a segar lo que ustedes no cultivaron; otros cultivaron, y ustedes se han beneficiado de sus trabajos.»

I have sent you to reap that upon which ye bestowed no labour; others laboured, and ye have entered into their labours.

39 M uchos de los samaritanos de aquella ciudad creyeron en él por la palabra de la mujer, que en su testimonio decía: «Él me dijo todo lo que he hecho.»

And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in him by the word of the woman, who testified, He told me all that I have done.

40 E ntonces los samaritanos fueron adonde él estaba, y le rogaron que se quedara con ellos; y él se quedó allí dos días.

So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they asked him to abide with them; and he abode there two days.

41 Y muchos más creyeron por la palabra de él,

And many more believed by his own word

42 y decían a la mujer: «Ya no creemos solamente por lo que has dicho, pues nosotros mismos hemos oído, y sabemos, que éste es verdaderamente el Salvador del mundo.» Jesús sana al hijo de un noble

and said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy speech; for we have heard him ourselves and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

43 D os días después, Jesús salió de allí y fue a Galilea;

¶ Now after two days he departed from that place and went into Galilee.

44 y es que Jesús mismo hizo constar que el profeta no tiene honra en su propia tierra.

For Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honour in his own country.

45 C uando llegó a Galilea, los galileos lo recibieron, pues habían visto todo lo que él había hecho durante la fiesta en Jerusalén; pues también ellos habían ido a la fiesta.

Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he had done in Jerusalem at the feast, for they had also gone to the feast.

46 J esús fue otra vez a Caná de Galilea, donde había convertido el agua en vino. En Cafarnaún había un oficial del rey, cuyo hijo estaba enfermo.

So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum.

47 C uando éste supo que Jesús había llegado de Judea a Galilea, fue a verlo y le rogó que bajara y sanara a su hijo, que estaba a punto de morir.

When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him and besought him that he would come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.

48 J esús le dijo: «Si ustedes no ven señales y prodigios, no creen.»

Then Jesus said unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.

49 E l oficial del rey le dijo: «Señor, ven a mi casa antes de que mi hijo muera.»

The nobleman said unto him, Sir, come down before my child dies.

50 J esús le dijo: «Vuelve a tu casa, que tu hijo vive.» Y ese hombre creyó en lo que Jesús le dijo, y se fue.

Jesus said unto him, Go; thy son lives. And the man believed the word that Jesus spoke unto him, and he went.

51 C uando volvía a su casa, sus siervos salieron a recibirlo y le dieron la noticia: «¡Tu hijo vive!»

And as he was now going down, his slaves met him and told him, saying, Thy son lives.

52 É l les preguntó a qué hora había comenzado a estar mejor. Y le dijeron: «Ayer, a las siete, lo dejó la fiebre.»

Then he enquired of them the hour when he began to get better. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.

53 E l padre entendió entonces que aquélla era la hora en que Jesús le había dicho «Tu hijo vive», y creyó, lo mismo que toda su familia.

So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said unto him, Thy son lives; and he believed, and his whole house.

54 E sta segunda señal la hizo Jesús cuando fue de Judea a Galilea.

This again is the second sign that Jesus did when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.
