1 T odos los cobradores de impuestos y pecadores se acercaban a Jesús para escucharlo.

¶ Then all the publicans and sinners drew near unto him to hear him.

2 L os fariseos y los escribas comenzaron a murmurar, y decían: «Éste recibe a los pecadores, y come con ellos.»

And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receives sinners and eats with them.

3 E ntonces Jesús les contó esta parábola:

And he spoke this parable unto them, saying,

4 « ¿Quién de ustedes, si tiene cien ovejas y pierde una de ellas, no deja las noventa y nueve en el desierto, y va tras la que se perdió, hasta encontrarla?

What man of you having a hundred sheep if he lose one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after that which is lost until he finds it?

5 Y cuando la encuentra, gozoso la pone sobre sus hombros,

And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

6 y al llegar a su casa reúne a sus amigos y vecinos, y les dice: “¡Alégrense conmigo, porque he encontrado la oveja que se me había perdido!”

And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost.

7 L es digo que así también será en el cielo: habrá más gozo por un pecador que se arrepiente, que por noventa y nueve justos que no necesitan arrepentirse. Parábola de la moneda perdida

I say unto you that likewise there shall be more joy in heaven over one sinner that repents than over ninety-nine just persons, who need no repentance.

8 » ¿O qué mujer, si tiene diez monedas y pierde una de ellas, no enciende la lámpara, y barre la casa, y busca con cuidado la moneda, hasta encontrarla?

Or what woman having ten drachmas, if she loses one drachma, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it?

9 Y cuando la encuentra, reúne a sus amigas y vecinas, y les dice: “¡Alégrense conmigo, porque he encontrado la moneda que se me había perdido!”

And when she has found it, she calls her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma which I had lost.

10 Y o les digo a ustedes que el mismo gozo hay delante de los ángeles de Dios por un pecador que se arrepiente.» Parábola del hijo perdido

Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repents.

11 J esús dijo también: «Un hombre tenía dos hijos,

¶ And he said, A certain man had two sons;

12 y el menor de ellos le dijo a su padre: “Padre, dame la parte de los bienes que me corresponde.” Entonces el padre les repartió los bienes.

and the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of the estate that falls to me. And he divided unto them his living.

13 U nos días después, el hijo menor juntó todas sus cosas y se fue lejos, a una provincia apartada, y allí dilapidó sus bienes llevando una vida disipada.

And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together and took his journey into a far country and there wasted his estate with riotous living.

14 C uando ya lo había malgastado todo, sobrevino una gran hambruna en aquella provincia, y comenzó a pasar necesidad.

And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.

15 S e acercó entonces a uno de los ciudadanos de aquella tierra, quien lo mandó a sus campos para cuidar de los cerdos.

And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

16 Y aunque deseaba llenarse el estómago con las algarrobas que comían los cerdos, nadie se las daba.

And he longed to fill his belly with the husks that the swine ate, but no one gave them unto him.

17 F inalmente, recapacitó y dijo: “¡Cuántos jornaleros en la casa de mi padre tienen pan en abundancia, y yo aquí me estoy muriendo de hambre!

And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have abundance of bread, and I perish here with hunger!

18 P ero voy a levantarme, e iré con mi padre, y le diré: ‘Padre, he pecado contra el cielo y contra ti,

I will arise and go to my father and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee

19 y no soy digno ya de ser llamado tu hijo; ¡hazme como a uno de tus jornaleros!’”

and am no longer worthy to be called thy son; make me as one of thy hired servants.

20 Y así, se levantó y regresó con su padre. Todavía estaba lejos cuando su padre lo vio y tuvo compasión de él. Corrió entonces, se echó sobre su cuello, y lo besó.

And he arose and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him and was moved with compassion and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.

21 Y el hijo le dijo: “Padre, he pecado contra el cielo y contra ti, y no soy digno ya de ser llamado tu hijo.”

And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and in thy sight and am no longer worthy to be called thy son.

22 P ero el padre les dijo a sus siervos: “Traigan la mejor ropa, y vístanlo. Pónganle también un anillo en su mano, y calzado en sus pies.

But the father said to his slaves, Bring forth the best robe and put it on him and put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet

23 V ayan luego a buscar el becerro gordo, y mátenlo; y comamos y hagamos fiesta,

and bring here the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and be merry;

24 p orque este hijo mío estaba muerto, y ha revivido; se había perdido, y lo hemos hallado.” Y comenzaron a regocijarse.

for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found. And they began to be merry.

25 » El hijo mayor estaba en el campo, y cuando regresó y llegó cerca de la casa, oyó la música y las danzas.

Now his elder son was in the field, and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.

26 E ntonces llamó a uno de los criados, y le preguntó qué estaba pasando.

And he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant.

27 E l criado le respondió: “Tu hermano ha vuelto, y tu padre ha ordenado matar el becerro gordo, porque lo ha recibido sano y salvo.”

And he said unto him, Thy brother is come, and thy father has killed the fatted calf because he has received him safe and sound.

28 C uando el hermano mayor escuchó esto, se enojó tanto que no quería entrar. Así que su padre salió a rogarle que entrara.

And he was angry and would not go in, therefore his father came out and intreated him.

29 P ero el hijo mayor le dijo a su padre: “Aunque llevo tantos años de servirte, y nunca te he desobedecido, tú nunca me has dado siquiera un cabrito para disfrutar con mis amigos.

And he, answering, said to his father, Behold, these many years I have served thee, neither at any time have I transgressed thy commandment; and yet thou never gavest me a kid that I might make merry with my friends.

30 P ero ahora viene este hijo tuyo, que ha malgastado tus bienes con rameras, ¡y has ordenado matar el becerro gordo para él!”

But as soon as this thy son was come who has devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed the fatted calf for him.

31 E l padre le dijo: “Hijo mío, tú siempre estás conmigo, y todo lo que tengo es tuyo.

And he said unto him, Son, thou art always with me, and all that I have is thine.

32 P ero era necesario hacer una fiesta y regocijarnos, porque tu hermano estaba muerto, y ha revivido; se había perdido, y lo hemos hallado.”»

It was necessary that we should make merry and be glad, for this thy brother was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.
