1 P ablo fijó la mirada en el concilio, y dijo: «Hermanos, toda mi vida he vivido delante de Dios sin tener nada de qué avergonzarme.»

¶ Then Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.

2 E ntonces Ananías, que era el sumo sacerdote, ordenó a los que estaban junto a él que lo golpearan en la boca;

And the prince of the priests, Ananias, commanded those that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.

3 p ero Pablo le dijo: «¡Así te golpeará Dios a ti, muro blanqueado! Tú estás sentado allí para juzgarme conforme a la ley; ¿por qué violas la ley al mandar que me golpeen?»

Then Paul said unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whitewashed wall, for dost thou sit to judge me after the law and command me to be smitten contrary to the law?

4 L os que estaban allí le dijeron: ¡Estás insultando al sumo sacerdote de Dios!

And those that stood by said, Dost thou revile God’s high priest?

5 E ntonces Pablo respondió: «Hermanos, yo no sabía que era el sumo sacerdote. Pero sé que está escrito: “No maldecirás a un príncipe de tu pueblo.”»

Then Paul said, I did not know, brethren, that he was the prince of the priests, for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.

6 C uando Pablo se dio cuenta de que una parte del concilio era de saduceos y otra de fariseos, alzó la voz y dijo: «Hermanos, yo soy fariseo, y soy hijo de un fariseo. Se me está juzgando porque espero la resurrección de los muertos.»

¶ But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee, and of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

7 E n cuanto dijo esto, se suscitó una discusión entre los fariseos y los saduceos, y la asamblea se dividió.

And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the multitude was divided.

8 Y es que los saduceos dicen que no hay resurrección, ni ángeles, ni espíritus; pero los fariseos sí creen en todo esto.

For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit; but the Pharisees confess both.

9 S e levantó entonces una gritería, y los escribas que apoyaban a los fariseos se levantaron a protestar: «No vemos que este hombre haya cometido ningún crimen. ¡Puede haberle hablado un espíritu o un ángel!

And there arose a great cry; and the scribes that were of the Pharisees’ part arose and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man, but if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him, let us not fight against God.

10 Y como la discusión iba en aumento, el tribuno temía que fueran a despedazar a Pablo, así que mandó que los soldados bajaran y lo quitaran de en medio, y se lo llevaran a la fortaleza.

And when there arose a great dissension, the tribunal, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and to take him by force from among them and to bring him into the fortress.

11 A la noche siguiente, el Señor se le presentó y le dijo: «Pablo, ten ánimo, pues necesito que des testimonio de mí en Roma, así como lo has hecho en Jerusalén. Complot contra Pablo

And the night following the Lord stood by him and said, Be of good cheer, Paul, for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou also bear witness at Rome.

12 A l amanecer, los judíos se reunieron para conspirar, y bajo maldición se comprometieron a no comer ni beber hasta darle muerte a Pablo.

¶ And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together and they vowed under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul.

13 L os que hicieron este juramento eran más de cuarenta;

And they were more than forty who had made this conspiracy.

14 f ueron ante los principales sacerdotes y los ancianos, y les dijeron: «Nosotros hemos jurado, bajo maldición, que no comeremos nada hasta que hayamos matado a Pablo.

And they came to the princes of the priests and the elders and said, We have made a vow of anathema that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.

15 L es sugerimos a ustedes y al concilio, pedirle al tribuno la comparecencia de Pablo para mañana, porque ustedes quieren averiguar algunas cosas acerca de él. Nosotros estaremos listos para matarlo antes de que se presente.

Now therefore ye with the council signify to the tribunal that he bring him down unto you tomorrow, as though ye would enquire something more certain concerning him, and we, before he arrives, are ready to kill him.

16 P ero el hijo de la hermana de Pablo se enteró de la emboscada, y fue a la fortaleza y entró para darle aviso a Pablo.

And when Paul’s sister’s son heard of their ambush, he went and entered into the fortress and told Paul.

17 É ste llamó entonces a uno de los centuriones, y le dijo: «Lleva a este joven ante el tribuno, porque tiene algo que informarle.»

Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him and said, Bring this young man unto the tribunal, for he has a certain thing to tell him.

18 E l centurión llevó al joven ante el tribuno, y a éste le dijo: «El preso Pablo me llamó y me pidió que trajera a este joven a tu presencia, porque tiene algo de qué hablarte.»

So he took him and brought him to the tribunal and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him and asked me to bring this young man unto thee, who has something to say unto thee.

19 E l tribuno lo tomó de la mano y, llevándolo aparte, le preguntó: «¿Qué es lo que tienes que decirme?»

Then the tribunal took him by the hand and went with him aside privately and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?

20 E l joven le dijo: «Los judíos han acordado pedirte que lleves mañana a Pablo ante el concilio, porque le quieren preguntar algunas cosas.

And he said, The Jews have agreed to ask thee that thou would bring down Paul tomorrow into the council, as though they would enquire something more certain of him.

21 P ero no les creas, porque más de cuarenta de sus hombres lo esperan para matarlo. Han jurado, bajo maldición, que no comerán ni beberán nada hasta haberlo matado. Están dispuestos a hacerlo, y sólo esperan que hagas venir a Pablo.»

But do not believe them, for more than forty of them lie in wait to ambush him, who have vowed under a curse that they will neither eat nor drink until they have killed him, and now they are ready, looking for a promise from thee.

22 E l tribuno despidió al joven y le mandó que no dijera nada a nadie del aviso que le había dado. Pablo es enviado a Félix el gobernador

So the tribunal then let the young man depart and charged him, See thou tell no one that thou hast showed these things to me.

23 E l tribuno llamó a dos centuriones y les mandó que para las nueve de esa noche prepararan a doscientos soldados, setenta jinetes y doscientos lanceros, pues irían hasta Cesarea;

And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea and seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen, at the third hour of the night

24 o rdenó también que prepararan cabalgaduras para Pablo, y que lo llevaran sano y salvo ante el gobernador Félix.

and provide them beasts that they may set Paul on and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.

25 L e escribió una carta en estos términos:

And he wrote a letter after this manner:

26 « Saludos de Claudio Lisias al excelentísimo gobernador Félix.

Claudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix sends greeting.

27 E ste hombre fue aprehendido por los judíos y lo iban a matar; yo acudí con la tropa y lo puse a salvo, pues me enteré de que era ciudadano romano.

This man was taken of the Jews and should have been killed by them; then I came with an army and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman.

28 Q uise saber de qué lo acusaban, y lo llevé ante su concilio.

And when I desired to know the cause of why they accused him, I brought him forth into their council,

29 A llí me di cuenta de que lo acusaban por cuestiones de su ley, pero que no había cometido ningún delito que mereciera la muerte o la cárcel.

whom I found to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds.

30 L uego me avisaron de que los judíos le habían preparado una emboscada, y por eso ahora te lo envío. Les he exigido a sus acusadores que traten en tu presencia lo que tengan en su contra.»

And when it was told me how the Jews lay in wait to ambush the man, I sent straightway to thee and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before thee what they had against him. Farewell.

31 S iguiendo la orden que habían recibido, los soldados tomaron a Pablo y lo llevaron de noche a Antípatris.

Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris.

32 A l día siguiente, los soldados dejaron a los jinetes con él, y regresaron a la fortaleza.

On the next day they left the horsemen to go with him and returned to the fortress,

33 C uando los jinetes llegaron a Cesarea, le dieron la carta al gobernador y le presentaron a Pablo.

who, when they came to Caesarea and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him.

34 E l gobernador leyó la carta y le preguntó de qué provincia era, y cuando supo que era de Cilicia,

And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia,

35 l e dijo: «Te oiré cuando vengan tus acusadores.» Y mandó que lo custodiaran en el pretorio de Herodes.

I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod’s judgment hall.
