1 S eñor, recuerda lo que nos ha sucedido; ¡míranos, y toma en cuenta nuestro oprobio!

¶ Remember, O LORD, what is come upon us; look, and behold our reproach.

2 N uestra heredad ha pasado a manos ajenas; nuestras casas son ahora de gente extraña.

Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens.

3 N os hemos quedado huérfanos, sin padre; nuestras madres se han quedado como viudas.

We are orphans without father; our mothers are as widows.

4 P agamos por el agua que bebemos, y hasta la leña tenemos que comprarla.

We have drunk our water for money; our wood is sold unto us.

5 E stamos sujetos a la persecución; nos fatigamos, no tenemos reposo.

Our necks are under persecution; we are become tired and have no rest.

6 S uplicantes extendimos la mano a los egipcios, y a los asirios les rogamos saciarnos de pan.

We have given the hand to the Egyptians and to the Assyrians to be satisfied with bread.

7 N uestros padres pecaron, y murieron, ¡pero a nosotros nos tocó llevar el castigo!

Our fathers have sinned and are dead; and we have borne their chastisements.

8 A hora los esclavos son nuestros señores, y no hay quien nos libre de sus manos.

Slaves have ruled over us: there was no one to deliver us out of their hand.

9 D esafiando a los guerreros del desierto, arriesgamos la vida para obtener nuestro pan.

We got our bread with the peril of our lives because of the sword of the wilderness.

10 E l hambre nos hace arder en fiebre; ¡tenemos la piel requemada como un horno!

Our skin became black like an oven because of the terrible famine.

11 E n Sión violaron a nuestras mujeres; ¡en las ciudades de Judá violaron a nuestras doncellas!

They ravished the women in Zion and the virgins in the cities of Judah.

12 A los príncipes los colgaron de las manos; ¡no mostraron ningún respeto por los viejos!

Princes were hanged up by their hand; the countenance of the elders was not honoured.

13 A nuestros mejores hombres los obligaron a moler; ¡a nuestros niños los agobiaron bajo el peso de la leña!

They took the young men to grind, and the children fell under the wood.

14 Y a no se ven ancianos sentados a la puerta; los jóvenes dejaron de cantar.

The elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their music.

15 P ara nuestro corazón terminó la alegría; nuestras danzas se volvieron cantos de dolor.

The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.

16 S e nos cayó de la cabeza la corona; ¡Pobres de nosotros! ¡Somos pecadores!

The crown is fallen from our head; woe now unto us, for we have sinned!

17 P or eso tenemos triste el corazón; por eso los ojos se nos han nublado.

¶ For this our heart is saddened; for these things our eyes are become dim.

18 T an asolado está el monte de Sión que por él merodean las zorras.

Because of the mountain of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes walk upon it.

19 P ero tú, Señor, eres el rey eterno; ¡tu trono permanecerá por toda la eternidad!

Thou, O LORD, shall remain for ever; thy throne from generation to generation.

20 ¿ Por qué te has olvidado de nosotros? ¿Por qué nos has abandonado tanto tiempo?

Why should thou forget us for ever and forsake us for such a long time?

21 ¡ Restáuranos, Señor, y nos volveremos a ti! ¡Haz de nuestra vida un nuevo comienzo!

Turn us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as at the beginning.

22 L o cierto es que nos has desechado; ¡muy grande ha sido tu enojo contra nosotros!

For in stepping back thou hast rejected us; thou hast become very angry against us.
