1 Y o, Santiago, siervo de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo, saludo a las doce tribus que están en la dispersión. La sabiduría que viene de Dios

¶ James, a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus, the Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

2 H ermanos míos, considérense muy dichosos cuando estén pasando por diversas pruebas.

¶ My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into diverse trials,

3 B ien saben que, cuando su fe es puesta a prueba, produce paciencia.

knowing that the proving of your faith works patience,

4 P ero procuren que la paciencia complete su obra, para que sean perfectos y cabales, sin que les falta nada.

and the patience finishes the work, that ye may be perfect and entire, not lacking in anything.

5 S i alguno de ustedes requiere de sabiduría, pídasela a Dios, y él se la dará, pues Dios se la da a todos en abundancia y sin hacer ningún reproche.

And if any of you lacks wisdom, let them ask of God (who gives abundantly to all, and without reproach), and it shall be given them.

6 P ero tiene que pedir con fe y sin dudar nada, porque el que duda es como las olas del mar, que el viento agita y lleva de un lado a otro.

But ask in faith, not doubting anything. For he that doubts is like the wave of the sea which is driven of the wind and is tossed from one side to another.

7 Q uien sea así, no piense que recibirá del Señor cosa alguna,

For let not such a man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord.

8 p ues quienes titubean son inconstantes en todo lo que hacen.

The double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

9 E l hermano pobre debe sentirse orgulloso cuando sea exaltado;

Let the brother of low degree rejoice in his high status;

10 e l rico debe sentirse igual cuando sea humillado, porque las riquezas pasan como las flores del campo:

and he who is rich, in his low status, because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

11 e n cuanto sale el sol, quemándolo todo con su calor, la hierba se marchita y su flor se cae, con lo que su hermosa apariencia se desvanece. Así también se desvanecerá el rico en todas sus empresas. Enfrentando las pruebas

For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withers the grass, and its flower falls, and the beautiful appearance of it perishes: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

12 D ichoso el que hace frente a la tentación; porque, pasada la prueba, se hace acreedor a la corona de vida, la cual Dios ha prometido dar a quienes lo aman.

Blessed is the man that patiently endures temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those that love him.

13 C uando alguien sea tentado, no diga que ha sido tentado por Dios, porque Dios no tienta a nadie, ni tampoco el mal puede tentar a Dios.

¶ Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither does he tempt anyone:

14 A l contrario, cada uno es tentado cuando se deja llevar y seducir por sus propios malos deseos.

But each one is tempted, when they are drawn away of their own lust and enticed.

15 E l fruto de estos malos deseos, una vez concebidos, es el pecado; y el fruto del pecado, una vez cometido, es la muerte.

Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin; and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death.

16 Q ueridos hermanos míos, no se equivoquen.

Do not err, my beloved brethren.

17 T oda buena dádiva y todo don perfecto descienden de lo alto, del Padre de las luces, en quien no hay cambio ni sombra de variación.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning.

18 É l, por su propia voluntad, nos hizo nacer por medio de la palabra de verdad, para que seamos los primeros frutos de su creación. Poniendo en práctica la palabra

He, of his own will, has begotten us with the word of truth, that we should be the firstfruits of his creatures.

19 P or eso, amados hermanos míos, todos ustedes deben estar dispuestos a oír, pero ser lentos para hablar y para enojarse,

¶ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;

20 p orque quien se enoja no promueve la justicia de Dios.

for the wrath of man does not work the righteousness of God.

21 A sí que despójense de toda impureza y de tanta maldad, y reciban con mansedumbre la palabra sembrada, que tiene el poder de salvarlos.

So then, leave all uncleanness and remains of malice and receive with meekness the word ingested within you, which is able to cause your souls to be saved.

22 P ero pongan en práctica la palabra, y no se limiten sólo a oírla, pues se estarán engañando ustedes mismos.

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

23 E l que oye la palabra pero no la pone en práctica es como el que se mira a sí mismo en un espejo:

For if anyone hears the word and does not put it into practice, this same is like unto the man beholding his natural face in a mirror:

24 s e ve a sí mismo, pero en cuanto se va, se olvida de cómo es.

For he considered himself and went his way and in one hour forgot what he was like.

25 E n cambio, el que fija la mirada en la ley perfecta, que es la ley de la libertad, y no se aparta de ella ni se contenta sólo con oírla y olvidarla, sino que la practica, será dichoso en todo lo que haga.

But whosoever has looked attentively into the perfect law of liberty and has persevered in it, not being a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, the same shall be blessed in their deed.

26 S i alguno de ustedes cree ser religioso, pero no refrena su lengua, se engaña a sí mismo y su religión no vale nada.

If anyone among you thinks to be religious and does not bridle his tongue, but deceives his own heart, his religion is vain.

27 D elante de Dios, la religión pura y sin mancha consiste en ayudar a los huérfanos y a las viudas en sus aflicciones, y en mantenerse limpio de la maldad de este mundo.

The pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their tribulation and to keep thyself unspotted from this world.
