1 C uando Jesús vio a la multitud, subió al monte y se sentó. Entonces sus discípulos se le acercaron,

¶ And seeing the multitudes, he went up into the mountain; and when he had sat down, his disciples came unto him;

2 y él comenzó a enseñarles diciendo:

and he opened his mouth and taught them, saying,

3 « Bienaventurados los pobres en espíritu, porque de ellos es el reino de los cielos.

¶ Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.

4 » Bienaventurados los que lloran, porque ellos recibirán consolación.

Blessed are those that mourn, for they shall be comforted.

5 » Bienaventurados los mansos, porque ellos heredarán la tierra.

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

6 » Bienaventurados los que tienen hambre y sed de justicia, porque ellos serán saciados.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

7 » Bienaventurados los misericordiosos, porque ellos serán tratados con misericordia.

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

8 » Bienaventurados los de limpio corazón, porque ellos verán a Dios.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

9 » Bienaventurados los pacificadores, porque ellos serán llamados hijos de Dios.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God.

10 » Bienaventurados los que padecen persecución por causa de la justicia, porque de ellos es el reino de los cielos.

Blessed are those who suffer persecution for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.

11 » Bienaventurados serán ustedes cuando por mi causa los insulten y persigan, y mientan y digan contra ustedes toda clase de mal.

Blessed are ye when men shall revile you and persecute you and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake.

12 G ócense y alégrense, porque en los cielos ya tienen ustedes un gran galardón; pues así persiguieron a los profetas que vivieron antes que ustedes. La sal de la tierra

Rejoice and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in the heavens; for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

13 » Ustedes son la sal de la tierra, pero si la sal pierde su sabor, ¿cómo volverá a ser salada? Ya no servirá para nada, sino para ser arrojada a la calle y pisoteada por la gente. La luz del mundo

¶ Ye are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its savour, with what shall it be salted? From then on it is good for nothing, but to be cast out and to be trodden under foot of men.

14 » Ustedes son la luz del mundo. Una ciudad asentada sobre un monte no se puede esconder.

Ye are the light of the world. A city set upon a mountain cannot be hid.

15 T ampoco se enciende una lámpara y se pone debajo de un cajón, sino sobre el candelero, para que alumbre a todos los que están en casa.

Neither do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on the lampstand, and it gives light unto all that are in the house.

16 D e la misma manera, que la luz de ustedes alumbre delante de todos, para que todos vean sus buenas obras y glorifiquen a su Padre, que está en los cielos. Jesús y la ley

Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in the heavens.

17 » No piensen ustedes que he venido para abolir la ley o los profetas; no he venido para abolir, sino para cumplir.

¶ Think not that I am come to undo the law or the prophets; I am not come to undo, but to fulfil.

18 P orque de cierto les digo que, mientras existan el cielo y la tierra, no pasará ni una jota ni una tilde de la ley, hasta que todo se haya cumplido.

For verily I say unto you, Until heaven and earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle shall pass from the law until all is fulfilled.

19 D e manera que, cualquiera que quebrante uno de estos mandamientos muy pequeños, y así enseñe a los demás, será considerado muy pequeño en el reino de los cielos; pero cualquiera que los practique y los enseñe, será considerado grande en el reino de los cielos.

Whosoever therefore shall undo one of these least commandments and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of the heavens; but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of the heavens.

20 Y o les digo que, si la justicia de ustedes no es mayor que la de los escribas y los fariseos, ustedes no entrarán en el reino de los cielos. Jesús y la ira

For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of the heavens.

21 » Ustedes han oído que se dijo a los antiguos: “No matarás”, y que cualquiera que mate será culpable de juicio.

¶ Ye have heard that it was said to the ancients, Thou shalt not commit murder, and whosoever shall commit murder shall be guilty of the judgment;

22 P ero yo les digo que cualquiera que se enoje contra su hermano, será culpable de juicio, y cualquiera que a su hermano le diga “necio”, será culpable ante el concilio, y cualquiera que le diga “fatuo”, quedará expuesto al infierno de fuego.

but I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother out of control shall be in danger of the judgment, and whosoever shall insult his brother shall be in danger of the council, but whosoever shall say, Thou art impious, shall be in danger of hell.

23 P or tanto, si traes tu ofrenda al altar, y allí te acuerdas de que tu hermano tiene algo contra ti,

Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there remember that thy brother has something against thee;

24 d eja allí tu ofrenda delante del altar, y ve y reconcíliate primero con tu hermano, y después de eso vuelve y presenta tu ofrenda.

leave thy gift there before the altar, and go; first restore friendship with thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

25 P onte de acuerdo pronto con tu adversario, mientras estás con él en el camino, no sea que el adversario te entregue al juez, y el juez al alguacil, y seas echado en la cárcel.

Conciliate with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

26 D e cierto te digo que no saldrás de allí, hasta que hayas pagado el último centavo. Jesús y el adulterio

Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out of there, until thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

27 » Ustedes han oído que fue dicho: “No cometerás adulterio”.

¶ Ye have heard that it was said to the ancients, Thou shalt not commit adultery;

28 P ero yo les digo que cualquiera que mira con deseos a una mujer, ya adulteró con ella en su corazón.

but I say unto you, That whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.

29 P or tanto, si tu ojo derecho te hace caer en pecado, sácatelo y deshazte de él; es mejor que se pierda uno de tus miembros, y no que todo tu cuerpo sea echado al infierno.

Therefore if thy right eye should bring thee occasion to stumble, pluck it out and cast it from thee; for it is better for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

30 Y si tu mano derecha te hace caer en pecado, córtatela y deshazte de ella; es mejor que se pierda uno de tus miembros, y no que todo tu cuerpo sea echado al infierno. Jesús y el divorcio

And if thy right hand should bring thee occasion to stumble, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is better for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

31 » También fue dicho: “Cualquiera que se divorcia de su mujer, debe darle un certificado de divorcio.”

It was also said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a bill of divorce;

32 P ero yo les digo que el que se divorcia de su mujer, a no ser por causa de fornicación, hace que ella adultere, y el que se casa con la divorciada, comete adulterio. Jesús y los juramentos

but I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, except for the cause of fornication, causes her to commit adultery; and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced commits adultery.

33 » Ustedes han oído también que se dijo a los antiguos: “No perjurarás, sino que cumplirás tus juramentos al Señor.”

¶ Again, ye have heard that it was said to the ancients, Thou shalt not perjure thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths;

34 P ero yo les digo: No juren en ninguna manera; ni por el cielo, porque es el trono de Dios,

but I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by the heaven, for it is God’s throne,

35 n i por la tierra, porque es el estrado de sus pies, ni por Jerusalén, porque es la ciudad del gran Rey.

nor by the earth, for it is his footstool, neither by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.

36 N o jurarás ni por tu cabeza, porque no puedes hacer blanco o negro un solo cabello tuyo.

Neither shalt thou swear by thy head because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

37 C uando ustedes digan algo, que sea “sí, sí”, o “no, no”; porque lo que es más de esto, proviene del mal. El amor hacia los enemigos

But let your communication be, Yes, yes; No, no; for whatsoever is more than this comes of evil.

38 » Ustedes han oído que fue dicho: “Ojo por ojo, y diente por diente.”

¶ Ye have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth;

39 P ero yo les digo: No resistan al que es malo, sino que a cualquiera que te hiera en la mejilla derecha, preséntale también la otra;

but I say unto you, That ye resist not with evil, but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

40 a l que quiera provocarte a pleito para quitarte la túnica, déjale también la capa;

And if anyone desires to sue thee at the law, and take away thy clothing, let him have thy cloak also.

41 y a cualquiera que te obligue a llevar carga por una milla, ve con él dos.

And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him two.

42 A l que te pida, dale, y al que quiera tomar de ti prestado, no se lo rehúses.

Give to him that asks of thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

43 » Ustedes han oído que fue dicho: “Amarás a tu prójimo, y odiarás a tu enemigo.”

¶ Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

44 P ero yo les digo: Amen a sus enemigos, bendigan a los que los maldicen, hagan bien a los que los odian, y oren por quienes los persiguen,

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless those that curse you, do good to those that hate you, and pray for those who speak evil about you, and persecute you;

45 p ara que sean ustedes hijos de su Padre que está en los cielos, que hace salir su sol sobre malos y buenos, y que hace llover sobre justos e injustos.

that ye may be sons of your Father who is in the heavens, for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

46 P orque si ustedes aman solamente a quienes los aman, ¿qué recompensa tendrán? ¿Acaso no hacen lo mismo los cobradores de impuestos?

For if ye love those who love you, what reward shall ye have? Do not even the publicans the same?

47 Y si ustedes saludan solamente a sus hermanos, ¿qué hacen de más? ¿Acaso no hacen lo mismo los paganos?

And if ye embrace your brethren only, what do ye more than others? Do not even the publicans so?

48 P or lo tanto, sean ustedes perfectos, como su Padre que está en los cielos es perfecto.

Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father who is in the heavens is perfect.
