1 L a ley es apenas el contorno de los bienes venideros, y no su imagen real. Por eso jamás podrá hacer perfectos a los que cada año se acercan a Dios para ofrecer los mismos sacrificios.

¶ For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never make perfect those who come by the same sacrifices which they offer year by year continually.

2 S i en realidad pudiera, entonces los que rinden este culto, una vez limpios, dejarían de ofrecerlos, pues ya no tendrían más conciencia de pecado.

Otherwise, they would cease to offer them, because those that sacrifice, once purged, would have no more conscience of sin.

3 P ero con estos sacrificios, cada año se hace memoria de los pecados,

But in these sacrifices each year the same remembrance of sins is made.

4 p orque la sangre de los toros y de los machos cabríos no puede quitar los pecados.

For the blood of bulls and of goats cannot take away sins.

5 P or eso, al entrar en el mundo, Cristo dijo: «No quieres sacrificio y ofrenda, pero me has dado un cuerpo.

Therefore when he came into the world, he said, Sacrifice and offering thou dost not desire, but a body hast thou prepared me;

6 N o te agradan los holocaustos ni las expiaciones por el pecado.

in burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

7 E ntonces dije: “Mi Dios, aquí estoy para hacer tu voluntad, como está escrito de mí en el libro.”»

¶ Then said I, Behold, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me) to do thy will, O God.

8 A l decir primero: «No quieres ni te agradan sacrificios ni ofrendas, ni holocaustos ni expiaciones por el pecado» (cosas que se ofrecen según la ley),

Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou dost not desire, neither hadst pleasure therein, which are offered by the law;

9 y luego añadir: «Aquí estoy, para hacer tu voluntad», quita lo primero para establecer esto último.

then he said, Behold, I come to do thy will, O God. He took away the first, that he may establish the second.

10 P or esa voluntad somos santificados, mediante la ofrenda del cuerpo de Jesucristo, hecha una sola vez y para siempre.

In this will, we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus, the Christ, once for all.

11 T odo sacerdote ministra día tras día, y una y otra vez ofrece los mismos sacrificios, los cuales nunca pueden quitar los pecados.

And so every priest stands daily ministering and offering many times the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins,

12 P ero Cristo, después de ofrecer una sola vez un solo sacrificio por los pecados, para siempre se sentó a la derecha de Dios,

but this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, is seated at the right hand of God,

13 y de ahí en adelante está en espera de que sus enemigos sean puestos por estrado de sus pies.

waiting for that which follows, that is, until his enemies are made his footstool.

14 É l, por medio de una sola ofrenda, hizo perfectos para siempre a los santificados.

For by one offering he has perfected for ever those that are sanctified.

15 D e esto nos da testimonio el Espíritu Santo, pues primero dice:

Likewise the Holy Spirit gives us the same witness, who afterwards said,

16 « El Señor ha dicho: Éste es el pacto que haré con ellos después de aquellos días: Pondré mis leyes en su corazón, y las escribiré en su mente.»

This is the testament that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will give my laws in their hearts, and in their souls will I write them;

17 Y luego añade: «Y nunca más me acordaré de sus pecados y transgresiones.»

and their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

18 C uando los pecados ya han sido perdonados, no hay más necesidad de presentar ofrendas por el pecado.

Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

19 H ermanos, puesto que con toda libertad podemos entrar en el Lugar Santísimo por la sangre de Jesucristo,

¶ Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus,

20 p or el camino nuevo y vivo que él nos abrió a través del velo, es decir, de su propio cuerpo,

by a new and living way, which he has consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

21 y puesto que tenemos un gran sacerdote al frente de la casa de Dios,

and having that great priest over the house of God,

22 a cerquémonos con un corazón sincero, y con la plena seguridad de la fe, con el corazón purificado de una mala conciencia, y con el cuerpo lavado en agua pura.

let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts purified from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water;

23 M antengamos firme y sin fluctuar la esperanza que profesamos, porque fiel es el que prometió.

let us hold fast the profession of our hope without wavering (for he is faithful that promised).

24 T engámonos en cuenta unos a otros, a fin de estimularnos al amor y a las buenas obras.

And let us consider one another to provoke unto charity and unto good works,

25 N o dejemos de congregarnos, como es la costumbre de algunos, sino animémonos unos a otros; y con más razón ahora que vemos que aquel día se acerca. Advertencia a los pecadores deliberados

not forsaking our gathering together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another and so much the more, when ye see that day approaching.

26 S i con toda intención pecamos después de haber recibido el conocimiento de la verdad, ya no queda más sacrificio por los pecados

For if we sin wilfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins,

27 s ino una terrible expectativa del juicio y del fuego ardiente que devorará a los enemigos de Dios.

but a certain fearful hope of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

28 C ualquiera que desobedece la ley de Moisés, muere sin falta, siempre y cuando haya dos o tres testigos que declaren en su contra.

He that despised the law of Moses died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

29 ¿ Y qué mayor castigo piensan ustedes que merece el que pisotea al Hijo de Dios y considera impura la sangre del pacto, en la cual fue santificado, e insulta al Espíritu de la gracia?

Of how much greater punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who has trodden underfoot the Son of God and has counted the blood of the covenant, with which he was sanctified, an unholy thing and has done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

30 B ien sabemos que el Señor ha dicho: «Mía es la venganza, yo pagaré», y también: «El Señor juzgará a su pueblo».

For we know who he is that has said, Vengeance belongs to me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

31 ¡ Horrenda cosa es caer en las manos del Dios vivo!

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

32 P ero recuerden ustedes los tiempos pasados, cuando después de haber sido iluminados soportaron ustedes los sufrimientos de una gran lucha.

But bring to memory the former days, in which, after ye received the light, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;

33 A lgunas veces fueron expuestos públicamente a las burlas y las aflicciones, y otras veces llegaron a ser compañeros de los que enfrentaban una situación semejante.

on the one hand ye were made a spectacle both by reproaches and tribulations, and on the other ye became companions of those that were so used.

34 A demás, ustedes también se compadecieron de los presos, y gozosos soportaron el despojo de sus propios bienes, sabedores de que en los cielos tienen una herencia mejor y permanente.

For ye had compassion of me in my bonds and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing that in yourselves ye have a better substance in the heavens, and that abides.

35 P or lo tanto, no pierdan la confianza, que lleva consigo una gran recompensa.

Do not lose, therefore, this your confidence, which has great recompense of reward;

36 L o que ustedes necesitan es tener paciencia; para que, una vez que hayan hecho la voluntad de Dios, reciban lo que él ha prometido darnos.

for patience is necessary, so that after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

37 « Porque dentro de muy poco tiempo el que ha de venir, vendrá y no tardará.

For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come and will not tarry.

38 P ero el justo vivirá por la fe; y si se vuelve atrás, no será de mi agrado.»

Now the just shall live by faith, but if any man draws back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

39 P ero nosotros no somos de los que se vuelven atrás y se pierden, sino de los que tienen fe y salvan su alma.

But we are not of those who draw back unto perdition, but faithful unto the saving of the soul.
