1 P or lo tanto, pregunto: ¿Acaso Dios desechó a su pueblo? ¡De ninguna manera! Porque también yo soy israelita, descendiente de Abrahán y de la tribu de Benjamín.

¶ I say then, Has God cast away his people? No, in no wise. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.

2 D ios no desechó a su pueblo, al cual conoció desde un principio. ¿No saben ustedes lo que dice la Escritura acerca de Elías, de cómo invocó a Dios contra Israel, cuando dijo:

God has not cast away his people whom he knew beforehand. Know ye not what the scripture says of Elijah? how speaking to God against Israel, he said,

3 « Señor, han dado muerte a tus profetas, y han derribado tus altares. Sólo yo he quedado, y procuran matarme»?

Lord, they have killed thy prophets and ruined thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.

4 ¿ Y cuál fue la respuesta divina? «Me he reservado siete mil hombres, que no han doblado la rodilla delante de Baal.»

But what did the answer of God say unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee before Baal.

5 D e la misma manera, aun en este tiempo ha quedado un remanente escogido por gracia.

Even so then at this present time also, there is a remnant by the gracious election of God.

6 Y si es por gracia, ya no es por obras; de otra manera la gracia ya no sería gracia. Y si fuera por obras, ya no sería gracia; de otra manera la obra ya no es obra.

And if by grace, then is it not by works; otherwise, the grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, then it is no longer grace; otherwise, the work is no longer work.

7 ¿ Entonces, qué? Israel no ha alcanzado lo que buscaba, pero los escogidos sí lo han alcanzado, y los demás fueron endurecidos.

What then? Israel has not obtained that which he seeks after; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were blinded

8 C omo está escrito: «Dios les dio un espíritu de estupor, y así son hasta el día de hoy. Tienen ojos que no ven y oídos que no oyen.»

(according as it is written, God has given them the spirit of anguish, eyes with which they do not see and ears with which they do not hear) unto this day.

9 Y David dice: «Que sus banquetes se conviertan en trampa y en red, En tropezadero y en retribución;

And David says, Let their table be turned into a snare and a net and a stumblingblock and a recompense unto them;

10 Q ue sus ojos se nublen para que no vean, Y sus espaldas se encorven para siempre.» La salvación de los no judíos

Let their eyes be darkened that they may not see, and bow down their back always.

11 P regunto entonces: «¿Será que los de Israel tropezaron para caer?» ¡De ninguna manera! Más bien, su transgresión redundó en la salvación de los no judíos, para que los israelitas se pongan celosos.

I say then, Have they stumbled in such a manner that they should fall completely? No, in no wise; but rather through their fall, saving health is come unto the Gentiles to provoke them unto jealousy.

12 P ues si su transgresión ha enriquecido al mundo, y su fracaso ha enriquecido a los no judíos, ¡mucho más será lo que logre su plena restauración!

And if the fall of them is the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles, how much more shall their fullness be?

13 A hora les hablo a ustedes, a los que no son judíos. Por cuanto yo soy el apóstol de ustedes, honro mi ministerio.

For (I call you Gentiles) inasmuch as I am truly the apostle of the Gentiles, my honorable ministry,

14 Y o quisiera poner celosos a los de mi sangre, y de esa manera salvar a algunos de ellos.

if in any manner I may provoke my nation to jealousy and cause some of them to be saved.

15 P orque si su exclusión trajo como resultado la reconciliación del mundo, ¿qué resultará de su admisión, sino vida de entre los muertos?

For if the casting away of them is the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?

16 S i la primera parte de la masa es santa, también lo es la masa restante; y si la raíz es santa, también lo son las ramas.

For if the firstfruit is holy, so shall the rest be; and if the root is holy, so shall be the branches.

17 S i algunas de las ramas fueron cortadas, y tú, que eras un olivo silvestre, fuiste injertado en su lugar y has venido a participar de la raíz y de la rica savia del olivo,

And if some of the branches were broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert grafted in among them and hath been made participant of the root and of the fatness of the olive tree,

18 n o te jactes contra las ramas; y si te jactas, conviene que sepas que no eres tú el que sustenta a la raíz, sino que es la raíz la que te sustenta a ti.

do not boast against the branches. But if thou boast, know that thou dost not bear the root, but the root thee.

19 T al vez digas: «Las ramas fueron cortadas para que yo fuera injertado.»

Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.

20 D e acuerdo. Pero ellas fueron cortadas por su incredulidad, y tú te mantienes firme por la fe. Por lo tanto, no seas soberbio, sino temeroso.

Good; because of their unbelief they were broken off, but thou by faith art standing. Do not be highminded, but fear

21 P orque si Dios no perdonó a las ramas naturales, tampoco a ti te perdonará.

that if God did not forgive the natural branches, neither shall he forgive thee.

22 P or lo tanto, toma en cuenta la bondad y la severidad de Dios; severidad para con los que cayeron, pero bondad para contigo, si permaneces en esa bondad, pues de otra manera también tú serás cortado.

Behold, therefore, the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity, but toward thee, goodness if thou continue in his goodness; otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

23 Y aun ellos pueden ser injertados, si no permanecen en su incredulidad, pues Dios es poderoso para volver a injertarlos.

And even them, if they do not continue in unbelief, shall be grafted in, for God is powerful enough to graft them in again.

24 P orque si tú, que por naturaleza eras un olivo silvestre, contra la naturaleza fuiste cortado e injertado en el buen olivo, ¡con más razón éstos, que son las ramas naturales, serán injertados en su propio olivo! La restauración de Israel

For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature and wert grafted contrary to nature into the good olive tree, how much more shall these, which are the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?

25 H ermanos, no quiero que ignoren este misterio, para que no se vuelvan arrogantes. Parte de Israel se ha endurecido, y esto será así hasta que se haya incorporado la totalidad de los no judíos;

For I would not, brethren, that ye ignore this mystery, that ye not be arrogant regarding yourselves: that blindness in part has happened in Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles are come in.

26 y después de eso todo Israel será salvo. Como está escrito: «El Libertador vendrá de Sión, y apartará de Jacob la impiedad.

And even if all Israel were saved, as it is written: There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall take away the ungodliness from Jacob;

27 Y éste será mi pacto con ellos, cuando yo quite sus pecados.»

and this shall be my covenant unto them when I shall take away their sins.

28 A sí que, en cuanto al evangelio, son enemigos por causa de ustedes; pero en cuanto a la elección, son amados por causa de sus antepasados.

So that, as concerning the gospel, I have them for enemies for your sakes; but as touching the election of God, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes.

29 P orque los dones y el llamamiento de Dios son irrevocables.

For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

30 A sí como en otro tiempo ustedes eran desobedientes a Dios, pero ahora han alcanzado misericordia por la desobediencia de ellos,

For as ye in time past have not obeyed God, yet have now obtained mercy through the occasion of their disobedience,

31 a sí también éstos han sido desobedientes ahora, para que por la misericordia concedida a ustedes también ellos alcancen misericordia.

likewise these also have not believed now that through the mercy shown unto you they also may obtain mercy.

32 P orque Dios sujetó a todos a la desobediencia, para tener misericordia de todos.

For God enclosed everyone in disobedience, that he might have mercy upon everyone.

33 ¡ Qué profundas son las riquezas de la sabiduría y del conocimiento de Dios! ¡Cuán incomprensibles son sus juicios, e inescrutables sus caminos!

¶ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and of the knowledge of God! How incomprehensible are his judgments and his ways past finding out!

34 P orque ¿quién ha entendido la mente del Señor? ¿O quién ha sido su consejero?

For who has understood the intent of the Lord? or who has been his counsellor?

35 ¿ O quién le dio a él primero, para que él tenga que devolverlo?

Or who has first given unto him, that it be recompensed unto him again?

36 C iertamente, todas las cosas son de él, y por él, y para él. ¡A él sea la gloria por siempre! Amén.

For of him and by him and in him are all things. To him be the glory for the ages. Amen.
