1 J esús volvió del Jordán lleno del Espíritu Santo, y fue llevado por el Espíritu al desierto.

¶ And Jesus being full of the Holy Spirit returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness

2 A llí estuvo cuarenta días, y el diablo lo estuvo poniendo a prueba. Como durante esos días no comió nada, pasado ese tiempo tuvo hambre.

for forty days and was tempted of the devil. And in those days he ate nothing; and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.

3 E ntonces el diablo le dijo: «Si eres Hijo de Dios, di que esta piedra se convierta en pan.»

Then the devil said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.

4 J esús le respondió: «Escrito está: “No sólo de pan vive el hombre.”»

And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

5 E ntonces el diablo lo llevó a un lugar alto, y en un instante le mostró todos los reinos del mundo,

And the devil took him up into a high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the sphere of the world in a moment of time.

6 y le dijo: «Yo te daré poder sobre todos estos reinos y sobre sus riquezas, porque a mí han sido entregados, y yo puedo dárselos a quien yo quiera.

And the devil said unto him, All this authority I will give thee and the glory of them, for that is delivered unto me, and to whomsoever I will I give it.

7 S i te arrodillas delante de mí, todos serán tuyos.»

If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.

8 J esús le respondió: «Escrito está: “Al Señor tu Dios adorarás, y a él sólo servirás.”»

And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan; for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

9 E ntonces el diablo lo llevó a Jerusalén, lo puso sobre la parte más alta del templo, y le dijo: «Si eres Hijo de Dios, lánzate hacia abajo.

And he brought him to Jerusalem and set him on a pinnacle of the temple and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down from here;

10 P orque está escrito: »“A sus ángeles mandará alrededor de ti, para que te protejan”;

for it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee,

11 y también: “En sus manos te sostendrán, Para que no tropieces con piedra alguna.”»

and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

12 J esús le respondió: «También está dicho: “No tentarás al Señor tu Dios.”»

And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

13 C uando el diablo agotó sus intentos de ponerlo a prueba, se apartó de él por algún tiempo. Jesús principia su ministerio

And having finished all temptation, the devil departed from him for a season.

14 C on el poder del Espíritu, Jesús volvió a Galilea; y su fama se difundió por todos los lugares vecinos.

¶ And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee, and his fame went out through all the region round about.

15 E nseñaba en las sinagogas de ellos, y todos lo glorificaban. Jesús en Nazaret

And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.

16 J esús fue a Nazaret, donde se había criado, y en el día de reposo entró en la sinagoga, como era su costumbre, y se levantó a leer las Escrituras.

And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up; and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day and stood up to read.

17 S e le dio el libro del profeta Isaías, y al abrirlo encontró el texto que dice:

And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

18 « El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí. Me ha ungido para proclamar buenas noticias a los pobres; me ha enviado a proclamar libertad a los cautivos, a dar vista a los ciegos, a poner en libertad a los oprimidos

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those that are broken,

19 y a proclamar el año de la buena voluntad del Señor.»

to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.

20 E nrolló luego el libro, se lo dio al asistente, y se sentó. Todos en la sinagoga lo miraban fijamente.

And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister and sat down. And the eyes of all those that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

21 E ntonces él comenzó a decirles: «Hoy se ha cumplido esta Escritura delante de ustedes.»

And he began to say unto them, Today this scripture is fulfilled in your ears.

22 T odos hablaban bien de él y se quedaban asombrados de las palabras de gracia que emanaban de sus labios, y se preguntaban: «¿Acaso no es éste el hijo de José?»

And all bore him witness and marvelled at the words of grace which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph’s son?

23 J esús les dijo: «Sin duda ustedes me recordarán el refrán que dice: “Médico, cúrate a ti mismo”, y también “Haz aquí en tu tierra todo lo que hemos oído que hiciste en Cafarnaún.”»

And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself; whatever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country.

24 Y añadió: «De cierto les digo que ningún profeta es bien recibido en su propia tierra.

And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.

25 A decir verdad, en los días de Elías, cuando durante tres años y medio el cielo se cerró y hubo mucha hambre en toda la tierra, había muchas viudas en Israel;

But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land,

26 p ero Elías no fue enviado a ninguna de ellas, sino a una viuda en Sarepta de Sidón.

but unto none of them was Elijah sent, except unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a widow woman.

27 Y en los días del profeta Eliseo había también muchos leprosos en Israel, pero ninguno de ellos fue limpiado sino Namán el sirio.»

And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed, except Naaman the Syrian.

28 A l oír esto, todos en la sinagoga se enojaron mucho.

And all those in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath

29 S e levantaron, lo echaron fuera de la ciudad, y lo llevaron hasta la cumbre del monte sobre el que estaba edificada la ciudad, para despeñarlo.

and rose up and thrust him out of the city and led him unto the brow of the hill upon which their city was built that they might cast him down headlong.

30 P ero él pasó por en medio de ellos, y se fue. Un hombre que tenía un espíritu impuro

But he, passing through the midst of them, went away.

31 J esús fue a Cafarnaún, ciudad de Galilea, y allí enseñaba a la gente en los días de reposo.

¶ And he went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days.

32 Y la gente se admiraba de sus enseñanzas, porque les hablaba con autoridad.

And they were astonished at his doctrine, for his word was with power.

33 H abía en la sinagoga un hombre que tenía el espíritu de un demonio impuro, el cual gritó con gran fuerza:

And in the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon and cried out with a loud voice,

34 « ¿Qué tienes contra nosotros, Jesús de Nazaret? ¿Has venido a destruirnos? ¡Yo te conozco, y sé que eres el Santo de Dios!»

saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? Art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art: the Holy One of God.

35 P ero Jesús lo reprendió y le dijo: «¡Cállate, y sal de ese hombre!» Entonces el demonio derribó al hombre en medio de ellos, y salió de él sin hacerle ningún daño.

And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Be silent and come out of him. And the demon, throwing him down in the midst, came out of him and hurt him not.

36 T odos estaban asustados, y se preguntaban unos a otros: «¿Qué clase de palabra es ésta? ¡Con autoridad y poder da órdenes a los espíritus impuros, y éstos salen!»

And they were all amazed and spoke among themselves, saying, What word is this! For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.

37 Y su fama se iba extendiendo por todos los lugares vecinos. Jesús sana a la suegra de Pedro

And his fame went out into every place of the country round about.

38 J esús salió de la sinagoga y se dirigió a la casa de Simón. La suegra de Simón tenía una fiebre muy alta, así que le rogaron a Jesús por ella.

And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon’s house. And Simon’s wife’s mother was taken with a great fever, and they besought him for her.

39 É l se inclinó hacia ella y reprendió a la fiebre, y la fiebre se le quitó. Al instante, ella se levantó y comenzó a atenderlos. Muchos sanados al caer la tarde

And he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her, and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.

40 A l ponerse el sol, todos los que tenían enfermos de diversas enfermedades se los llevaban, y él ponía sus manos sobre cada uno de ellos y los sanaba.

Now when the sun was setting, all those who had anyone sick with diverse diseases brought them unto him, and laying his hands on each one of them, he healed them.

41 T ambién de muchos salían demonios, los cuales gritaban: «¡Tú eres el Hijo de Dios!» Pero Jesús los reprendía y no los dejaba hablar, porque sabían que él era el Cristo. Jesús predica en Galilea

And demons also came out of many, crying out and saying, Thou art the Christ, the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak, for they knew that he was the Christ.

42 A l llegar el día, Jesús salió y se fue a un lugar apartado. La gente lo buscaba, y cuando lo encontraron intentaron retenerlo para que no se alejara de ellos;

And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place, and the people sought him and came unto him and stayed him, that he should not depart from them.

43 p ero él les dijo: «También es necesario que yo anuncie en otras ciudades las buenas noticias del reino de Dios, porque para esto he sido enviado.»

And he said unto them, I must announce the gospel of the kingdom of God to other cities also because for this am I sent.

44 Y siguió predicando en las sinagogas de esa región.

And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.
