1 ¶ Y un día aconteció, que Jonatán hijo de Saúl dijo a su criado que le traía las armas: Ven, y pasemos a la guarnición de los filisteos, que está a aquel lado. Y no lo hizo saber a su padre.

¶ Now it came to pass upon a day that Jonathan, the son of Saul, said unto the young man that bore his armour, Come and let us go over to the Philistines’ garrison that is on the other side. But he did not tell his father.

2 Y Saúl estaba en el término de Gabaa, debajo de un granado que hay en Migrón, y el pueblo que estaba con él era como seiscientos hombres.

And Saul tarried in the uttermost part of Gibeah under a pomegranate tree which is in Migron, and the people that were with him were about six hundred men;

3 Y Ahías hijo de Ahitob, hermano de Icabod, hijo de Finees, hijo de Elí, sacerdote del SEÑOR en Silo, llevaba el efod; y no sabía el pueblo que Jonatán se hubiera ido.

and Ahiah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabod’s brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the LORD’s priest in Shiloh, was wearing the ephod. And the people did not know that Jonathan was gone.

4 Y entre los pasos por donde Jonatán procuraba pasar a la guarnición de los filisteos, había un peñasco agudo de un lado, y otro del otro lado; el uno se llamaba Boses y el otro Sene.

And between the passages by which Jonathan sought to go over unto the Philistines’ garrison, there was a sharp rock on the one side and a sharp rock on the other side; and the name of the one was Bozez and the name of the other Seneh.

5 U n peñasco estaba situado al norte hacia Micmas, y el otro al mediodía hacia Gabaa.

The forefront of the one was situated northward over against Michmash and the other towards the Negev over against Gibeah.

6 D ijo, pues, Jonatán a su criado que le traía las armas: Ven, pasemos a la guarnición de estos incircuncisos; por ventura obre el SEÑOR por nosotros; que no es difícil para el SEÑOR salvar con multitud o con poco número.

And Jonathan said to the young man that bore his armour, Come and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised; peradventure the LORD will work for us, for it is not difficult for the LORD to save by many or by few.

7 Y su paje de armas le respondió: Haz todo lo que tienes en tu corazón; ve, que aquí estoy contigo a tu voluntad.

And his armourbearer said unto him, Do all that is in thy heart; go. Behold, I am with thee according to thy will.

8 Y Jonatán dijo: He aquí, nosotros pasaremos a estos hombres, y nos mostraremos a ellos.

Then Jonathan said, Behold, we will go over unto these men, and we will show ourselves unto them.

9 S i nos dijeren así: Esperad hasta que lleguemos a vosotros; entonces nos estaremos en nuestro lugar, y no subiremos a ellos.

If they say thus unto us, Tarry until we come to you, then we will stand still in our place and will not go up unto them.

10 M as si nos dijeren así: Subid a nosotros; entonces subiremos, porque el SEÑOR los ha entregado en nuestras manos; y esto nos será por señal.

But if they say thus, Come up unto us, then we will go up, for the LORD has delivered them into our hand, and this shall be a sign unto us.

11 S e mostraron, pues, ambos a la guarnición de los filisteos, y los filisteos dijeron: He aquí los hebreos, que salen de las cavernas en que se habían escondido.

And both of them showed themselves unto the garrison of the Philistines; and the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves.

12 Y los varones de la guarnición respondieron a Jonatán y a su paje de armas, y dijeron: Subid a nosotros, y os haremos saber una cosa. Entonces Jonatán dijo a su paje de armas: Sube tras mí, que el SEÑOR los ha entregado en la mano de Israel.

And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armourbearer and said, Come up to us, and we will show you a thing. Then Jonathan said unto his armourbearer, Come up after me, for the LORD has delivered them into the hand of Israel.

13 Y subió Jonatán trepando con sus manos y sus pies, y tras él su paje de armas; y a los que caían delante de Jonatán, su paje de armas que iba tras él, los mataba.

And Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet and his armourbearer after him; and they fell before Jonathan, and his armourbearer slew after him.

14 E sta fue la primera matanza, en la cual Jonatán con su paje de armas, mató como unos veinte varones, como en la mitad de una yugada que un par de bueyes suelen arar en un campo.

And that first slaughter which Jonathan and his armourbearer made was about twenty men within as it were a half acre of land, which a yoke of oxen might plow.

15 Y hubo miedo en el real y por la tierra, y por todo el pueblo de la guarnición; y los que habían ido a destruir la tierra, también ellos temblaron, y la tierra fue alborotada, y hubo miedo de Dios.

And there was trembling in the host, in the field, and among all the people of the garrison; and those who had gone out to destroy the land, they also trembled, and the earth quaked, and there was fear of God.

16 ¶ Y los centinelas de Saúl vieron desde Gabaa de Benjamín cómo la multitud estaba deshecha y daban el uno al otro.

¶ And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked, and, behold, the multitude melted away, and they went on beating down one another.

17 E ntonces Saúl dijo al pueblo que tenía consigo: Pasad revista, y mirad quién haya ido de los nuestros. Y cuando pasaron revista, hallaron que faltaban Jonatán y su paje de armas.

Then Saul said unto the people that were with him, Number now and see who is gone from us. And when they had numbered, behold, Jonathan and his armourbearer were not there.

18 Y Saúl dijo a Ahías: Trae el arca de Dios. Porque el arca de Dios estaba entonces con los hijos de Israel.

And Saul said unto Ahiah, Bring the ark of God. For the ark of God was at that time with the sons of Israel.

19 Y aconteció que estando aún hablando Saúl con el sacerdote, el alboroto que había en el campamento de los filisteos se aumentaba, e iba creciendo en gran manera. Entonces dijo Saúl al sacerdote: Detén tu mano.

And it came to pass while Saul talked unto the priest, that the noise that was in the host of the Philistines went on and increased. Then Saul said unto the priest, Withdraw thy hand.

20 Y juntando Saúl todo el pueblo que con él estaba, vinieron hasta el lugar de la batalla; y he aquí que la espada de cada uno era vuelta contra su compañero, y la mortandad era grande.

And Saul and all the people that were with him assembled themselves, and they came to the battle; and, behold, each man’s sword was against his fellow, and there was a very great discomfiture.

21 Y los hebreos que habían estado con los filisteos de ayer y anteayer, y habían venido con ellos de los alrededores al campamento, también éstos se volvieron del lado de los israelitas que estaban con Saúl y con Jonatán.

Moreover, the Hebrews that had been with the Philistines before that time, who had gone up with them into the camp from the country round about, even they also turned to be with the Israelites that were with Saul and Jonathan.

22 A simismo todos los israelitas que se habían escondido en el monte de Efraín, oyendo que los filisteos huían, ellos también los persiguieron en aquella batalla.

Likewise all the men of Israel who had hid themselves in Mount Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, they also followed hard after them in the battle.

23 A sí salvó el SEÑOR a Israel aquel día. Y llegó el alcance hasta Bet-avén.

So the LORD saved Israel that day; and the battle passed over unto Bethaven.

24 ¶ Pero los varones de Israel fueron puestos en apuro aquel día; porque Saúl había conjurado al pueblo, diciendo: Cualquiera que comiere pan hasta la tarde, hasta que haya tomado venganza de mis enemigos, sea maldito. Y todo el pueblo no había gustado pan.

¶ But the men of Israel were distressed that day, for Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eats any food until evening that I may be avenged on my enemies. So none of the people tasted any food.

25 Y aquel ejército de toda la tierra llegó a un bosque, donde había miel en la superficie del campo.

And the army of all the land came to a wood, and there was honey upon the ground.

26 E ntró, pues, el pueblo en el bosque, y he aquí que la miel corría; mas ninguno hubo que llegara la mano a su boca; porque el pueblo temía el juramento.

And when the people were come into the wood, behold, the honey dropped, but no man put his hand to his mouth, for the people feared the oath.

27 P ero Jonatán no había oído cuando su padre conjuró al pueblo, y extendió la punta de una vara que traía en su mano, y la mojó en un panal de miel, y llevó su mano a su boca; y sus ojos fueron aclarados.

But Jonathan had not heard when his father charged the people with the oath, therefore, he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand and dipped it in a honeycomb and put his hand to his mouth, and his eyes were enlightened.

28 E ntonces habló uno del pueblo, diciendo: Tu padre ha conjurado expresamente al pueblo, diciendo: Maldito sea el varón que comiere hoy alimento. Y el pueblo desfallecía de hambre.

Then one of the people spoke and said, Thy father straitly charged the people with an oath, saying, Cursed be the man that eats any food this day. And the people were faint.

29 Y respondió Jonatán: Mi padre ha turbado la tierra. Ved ahora cómo han sido aclarados mis ojos, por haber gustado un poco de esta miel.

Then Jonathan said, My father has troubled the land. See, I pray you, how my eyes have been enlightened because I tasted a little of this honey.

30 ¿ Cuánto más si el pueblo hubiera hoy comido del despojo de sus enemigos que halló? ¿No se habría hecho ahora mayor estrago en los filisteos?

How much more if haply the people had eaten freely today of the spoil of their enemies which they found? Would there not have been now a much greater slaughter among the Philistines?

31 E hirieron aquel día a los filisteos desde Micmas hasta Ajalón; mas el pueblo se cansó mucho.

And they smote the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon, but the people were very faint.

32 S e lanzó, por tanto, el pueblo al despojo, y tomaron ovejas y vacas y becerros, y los mataron en tierra, y el pueblo comió con sangre.

Therefore, the people flew upon the spoil and took sheep and oxen and calves and slew them on the ground, and the people ate them with the blood.

33 Y dieron aviso de ello a Saúl, diciendo: El pueblo peca contra el SEÑOR comiendo con sangre. Y él dijo: Vosotros habéis prevaricado; rodadme ahora acá una gran piedra.

Then they told Saul, saying, Behold, the people sin against the LORD in that they eat with the blood. And he said, Ye have transgressed; roll a great stone unto me this day.

34 Y Saúl volvió a decir: Esparcíos por el pueblo, y decidles que me traigan cada uno su vaca, y cada cual su oveja, y degolladlos aquí, y comed; y no pecaréis contra el SEÑOR comiendo con sangre. Y trajo todo el pueblo cada cual por su mano su vaca aquella noche, y las degollaron allí.

And Saul said, Disperse yourselves among the people and tell each one to bring his ox and his sheep here unto me and slay them here and eat and do not sin against the LORD in eating with the blood. And of all the people, each one brought his ox with him that night and slew them there.

35 Y edificó Saúl altar al SEÑOR, este altar fue el primero que edificó al SEÑOR.

And Saul built an altar unto the LORD; the same was the first altar that he built unto the LORD.

36 ¶ Y dijo Saúl: Descendamos de noche contra los filisteos, y los saquearemos hasta la mañana, y no dejaremos de ellos ninguno. Y ellos dijeron: Haz lo que bien te pareciere. Dijo luego el sacerdote: Acerquémonos aquí a Dios.

¶ And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night and spoil them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatever seems good unto thee. Then the priest said, Let us draw near unto God here.

37 Y Saúl consultó a Dios: ¿Descenderé tras los filisteos? ¿Los entregarás en mano de Israel? Mas el SEÑOR no le dio respuesta aquel día.

And Saul asked counsel of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? Wilt thou deliver them into the hand of Israel? But he did not answer him that day.

38 E ntonces dijo Saúl: Llegaos acá todos los principales del pueblo; y sabed y mirad por quién ha sido hoy este pecado;

Then Saul said, Bring here all the chief of the people and know and see by whom this sin has been this day.

39 p orque vive el SEÑOR, que salva a Israel, que si fuere en mi hijo Jonatán, el morirá de cierto. Y no hubo en todo el pueblo quien le respondiera.

For, as the LORD lives, who saves Israel, though it be in Jonathan, my son, he shall surely die. But there was not a man among all the people that answered him.

40 D ijo luego a todo Israel: Vosotros estaréis a un lado, y yo y Jonatán mi hijo estaremos al otro lado. Y el pueblo respondió a Saúl: Haz lo que bien te pareciere.

Then he said unto all Israel, Be ye on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people said unto Saul, Do what seems good unto thee.

41 E ntonces dijo Saúl al SEÑOR Dios de Israel: Muestra quien está sin mancha. Y fueron tomados Jonatán y Saúl, y el pueblo salió libre.

Therefore, Saul said unto the LORD God of Israel, Show who is without blemish. And Saul and Jonathan were taken, but the people went out free.

42 Y Saúl dijo: Echad suerte entre mí y Jonatán mi hijo. Y fue tomado Jonatán.

And Saul said, Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.

43 E ntonces Saúl dijo a Jonatán: Declárame qué has hecho. Y Jonatán se lo declaró, y dijo: Cierto que gusté con la punta de la vara que traía en mi mano, un poco de miel; ¿he de morir por eso?

Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in my hand; must I die for this.

44 Y Saúl respondió: Así me haga Dios y así me añada, que sin duda morirás, Jonatán.

And Saul answered, God do so and more also, for thou shalt surely die, Jonathan.

45 E ntonces el pueblo dijo a Saúl: ¿Ha pues de morir Jonatán, el que ha hecho esta salud grande en Israel? No será así. Vive el SEÑOR, que no ha de caer un cabello de su cabeza en tierra, pues que ha obrado hoy con Dios. Así rescató el pueblo a Jonatán, para que no muriera.

Then the people said unto Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who has wrought this great saving health in Israel? No, in no wise: as the LORD lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground, for he has wrought with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan that he did not die.

46 Y Saúl dejó de seguir a los filisteos; y los filisteos se fueron a su lugar.

Then Saul went up from following the Philistines, and the Philistines went to their own place.

47 ¶ Y tomando Saúl el reino sobre Israel, hizo guerra a todos sus enemigos alrededor: contra Moab, contra los hijos de Amón, contra Edom, contra los reyes de Soba, y contra los filisteos; y adondequiera que se volvía, los atribuló.

¶ So Saul took the kingdom over Israel and fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab and against the sons of Ammon and against Edom and against the kings of Zobah and against the Philistines; and wherever he turned himself, he troubled them.

48 Y reunió un ejército, e hirió a Amalec, y libró a Israel de mano de los que le saqueaban.

And he gathered a host and smote Amalek and delivered Israel out of the hands of those that spoiled them.

49 Y los hijos de Saúl fueron Jonatán, Isúi, y Malquisúa. Y los nombres de sus dos hijas eran, el nombre de la mayor, Merab, y el de la menor, Mical.

Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan and Ishui and Melchishua. And the names of his two daughters were these: the name of the firstborn Merab and the name of the younger Michal.

50 Y el nombre de la mujer de Saúl era Ahinoam, hija de Ahimaas. Y el nombre del general de su ejército era Abner, hijo de Ner tío de Saúl.

And the name of Saul’s wife was Ahinoam, the daughter of Ahimaaz. And the name of the captain of his host was Abner, the son of Ner, Saul’s uncle.

51 P orque Cis padre de Saúl, y Ner padre de Abner, fueron hijos de Abiel.

For Kish was the father of Saul, and Ner, the father of Abner, was the son of Abiel.

52 Y la guerra fue fuerte contra los filisteos todo el tiempo de Saúl; y a cualquiera que Saúl veía que era hombre valiente e hijo de virtud, le juntaba consigo.

And there was intense war against the Philistines all the days of Saul, and when Saul saw any strong man or any valiant man, he took him unto him.
