1 Д ля дириґетна хору. Синів Кореєвих. Псалом. (49-2) Слухайте це, всі народи, візьміть до ушей, усі мешканці всесвіту,

¶ Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:

2 ( 49-3) і людські сини й сини мужів, разом багатий та вбогий,

Both low and high, rich and poor, together.

3 ( 49-4) мої уста казатимуть мудрість, думка ж серця мого розумність,

My mouth shall speak wisdom; and the meditation of my heart intelligence.

4 ( 49-5) нахилю своє ухо до приказки, розв'яжу свою загадку лірою!

I will incline mine ear to a parable; I will declare my enigma upon the harp.

5 ( 49-6) Чому маю боятись у день лихоліття, як стане круг мене неправда моїх ошуканців,

Why should I fear in the days of adversity when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?

6 ( 49-7) які на багатство своє покладають надію, і своїми достатками хваляться?

¶ Those that trust in their wealth and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

7 ( 49-8) Але жодна людина не викупить брата, не дасть його викупу Богові,

none of them can by any means ransom his brother, nor give God an atonement for him;

8 ( 49-9) бо викуп їхніх душ дорогий, і не перестане навіки,

(for the redemption of their soul is of great price, and they shall never pay it)

9 ( 49-10) щоб міг він ще жити навіки й не бачити гробу!

that he should still live for ever and not see corruption.

10 ( 49-11) Та люди побачать, що мудрі вмирають так само, як гинуть невіглас та неук, і лишають для інших багатство своє...

For he sees that all the wise men die, likewise the fool and the ignorant perish and leave their wealth to others.

11 ( 49-12) Вони думають, ніби доми їхні навіки, місця їхнього замешкання з роду до роду, іменами своїми звуть землі,

Their inward thought is that their houses are eternal and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.

12 ( 49-13) та не зостається в пошані людина, подібна худобі, що гине!

Nevertheless man will not abide forever in honour; he is like the beasts that are cut off.

13 ( 49-14) Така їхня дорога глупота для них, та за ними йдуть ті, хто кохає їхню думку. Села.

This their way is their folly; yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.

14 ( 49-15) Вони зійдуть в шеол, і смерть їх пасе, немов вівці, а праведники запанують над ними від рання; подоба їхня знищиться, шеол буде мешканням для них...

Like sheep they are laid in Sheol; death shall feed on them, and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning, and their beauty shall be consumed in the grave from their dwelling.

15 ( 49-16) Та визволить Бог мою душу із влади шеолу, бо Він мене візьме! Села.

¶ Surely God will ransom my soul from the hand of Sheol when he shall take me. Selah.

16 ( 49-17) Не лякайся, коли багатіє людина, коли збільшується слава дому її,

Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;

17 ( 49-18) бо, вмираючи, не забере вона всього, її слава не піде за нею!

for in his death he shall carry nothing away; nor shall his glory descend after him.

18 ( 49-19) Хоч вона свою душу за життя свого хвалить, і славлять тебе, як для себе ти чиниш добро,

Though while he lives, his life shall be blessed: and men will praise thee when thou art prosperous.

19 ( 49-20) вона прийде до роду батьків своїх, що світла вони не побачать навіки!

He shall enter into the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light forever.

20 ( 49-21) Людина в пошані, але нерозумна, подібна худобі, що гине!

Man that is in honour that does not understand is like the beasts that are cut off.
