1 С таршого не докоряй, але вмовляй, немов батька, а молодших як братів,

¶ Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father, and the younger men as brethren,

2 с тарших жінок немов матірок, молодших як сестер, зо всякою чистістю.

the elder women as mothers, the younger as sisters, with all purity.

3 Ш ануй вдів, удів правдивих.

¶ Honour widows that are widows indeed.

4 А як має вдовиця яка дітей чи внучат, нехай учаться перше побожно шанувати родину свою, і віддячуватися батькам, бо це Богові вгодно.

But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let those learn first to govern their house in piety and to recompense their parents, for this is honest and pleasing before God.

5 А вдовиця правдива й самотна надію складає на Бога, та перебуває день і ніч у молитвах і благаннях.

Now she that is a widow indeed and desolate, trusts in God, and is diligent in supplications and prayers night and day,

6 А котра у розкошах живе, та живою померла.

but she that lives in pleasure is dead while she lives.

7 І це наказуй, щоб були непорочні.

Therefore command these things, that they may be blameless.

8 К оли ж хто про своїх, особливо ж про домашніх не дбає, той вирікся віри, і він гірший від невірного.

But if any provide not for his own and specially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

9 А вдову вносити до списку не менше, як шістдесятлітню, що була за дружину одному чоловікові,

Let a widow be placed on the list being not less than sixty years old, having been the wife of one man,

10 з асвідчену в добрих ділах, якщо дітей виховала, якщо подорожніх приймала, якщо ноги святим умивала, якщо помагала обездоленим, якщо всякий добрий учинок виконувала.

having a good testimony of good works, if she has brought up well her children, if she has exercised hospitality, if she has washed the feet of the saints, if she has relieved the afflicted, if she has diligently followed every good work.

11 А ле вдів молодих не приймай, бо вони, розпалившися, хочуть, наперекір Христові, заміж виходити,

But the younger widows refuse, for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they desire to marry,

12 ч ерез що мають осуд, бо від першої віри відкинулись.

having condemnation, because they have cast off their first faith.

13 А разом із тим неробітні вони, бо вчаться ходити по домах, і не тільки неробітні, але й лепетливі, і занадто цікаві, і говорять, чого не годиться.

And reject also the idle, who have learned to wander about from house to house, and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.

14 О тож бо, я хочу, щоб молодші заміж виходили, родили дітей, домом рядили, не давали противникові ані жадного поводу для лихомовства.

I desire therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, govern the house, giving no occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

15 Б о вже дехто пішли слідом за сатаною.

For some are already turned back after Satan.

16 А коли має вдів який вірний, нехай їх утримує, а Церква нехай не обтяжується, щоб могла вона втримувати вдів правдивих.

If any faithful man or woman has widows, let them maintain them and let not the congregation be charged, that it may relieve those that are widows indeed.

17 А пресвітери, які добре пильнують діла, нехай будуть наділені подвійною честю, а надто ті, хто працює у слові й науці.

¶ Let the elders that govern well be counted worthy of double honour, especially those who labour in the word and doctrine.

18 Б о каже Писання: Не в'яжи рота волові, що молотить, та: Вартий працівник своєї нагороди.

For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treads out the grain. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.

19 Н е приймай скарги проти пресвітера, хібащо при двох чи трьох свідках.

Against an elder do not receive an accusation, unless there are two or three witnesses.

20 А тих, хто грішить, картай перед усіма, щоб і інші страх мали.

Those that persist in sin rebuke before all, that the others may also fear.

21 З аклинаю тебе перед Богом й Ісусом Христом та вибраними Анголами, щоб ти заховав це без лицемірства, нічого не роблячи з упередженням.

I charge thee before God and the Lord Jesus Christ and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

22 Н е рукополагай скоро нікого, і не приставай до чужих гріхів. Бережи себе чистим!

Lay hands suddenly on no one, neither be partaker of the sins of others; keep thyself pure.

23 В оди більше не пий, але трохи вина заживай ради шлунка твого та частих недугів твоїх.

Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.

24 У інших людей гріхи явні і йдуть перед ними на осуд, а за іншими йдуть слідкома.

Some men’s sins are manifest beforehand, before they come unto judgment, but to others they follow after.

25 Я вні так само й добрі діла, а ті, хто інакший, сховатись не можуть.

Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand, and those that are otherwise cannot be hid.
