1 Б ув один чоловік із фарисеїв Никодим на ім'я, начальник юдейський.

¶ There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a prince of the Jews;

2 В ін до Нього прийшов уночі, та й промовив Йому: Учителю, знаємо ми, що прийшов Ти від Бога, як Учитель, бо не може ніхто таких чуд учинити, які чиниш Ти, коли Бог із ним не буде.

the same came to Jesus by night and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that thou doest unless God is with him.

3 І сус відповів і до нього сказав: Поправді, поправді кажу Я тобі: Коли хто не народиться згори, то не може побачити Божого Царства.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a person be born again from above, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4 Н икодим Йому каже: Як може людина родитися, бувши старою? Хіба може вона ввійти до утроби своїй матері знову й родитись?

Nicodemus said unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb and be born?

5 І сус відповів: Поправді, поправді кажу Я тобі: Коли хто не родиться з води й Духа, той не може ввійти в Царство Боже.

Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Unless a man is born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 Щ о вродилося з тіла є тіло, що ж уродилося з Духа є дух.

That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Н е дивуйся тому, що сказав Я тобі: Вам необхідно родитись згори.

Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again from above.

8 Д ух дихає, де хоче, і його голос ти чуєш, та не відаєш, звідкіля він приходить, і куди він іде. Так буває і з кожним, хто від Духа народжений.

The wind blows where it desires, and thou hearest the sound of it, but canst not tell from where it comes or where it goes; so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

9 В ідповів Никодим і до Нього сказав: Як це статися може?

Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can this be done?

10 І сус відповів і до нього сказав: Ти учитель ізраїльський, то чи ж цього не знаєш?

Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a teacher of Israel and knowest not this?

11 П оправді, поправді кажу Я тобі: Ми говоримо те, що ми знаємо, а свідчимо про те, що ми бачили, але свідчення нашого ви не приймаєте.

Verily, verily, I say unto thee that we speak what we know and testify that which we have seen, and ye do not receive our witness.

12 К оли Я говорив вам про земне, та не вірите ви, то як же повірите ви, коли Я говоритиму вам про небесне?

If I have told you earthly things and ye do not believe, how shall ye believe if I tell you of heavenly things?

13 І не сходив на небо ніхто, тільки Той, Хто з неба зійшов, Людський Син, що на небі.

And no one has ascended up to the heaven but he that came down from the heaven, even the Son of man, who is in the heaven.

14 І , як Мойсей підніс змія в пустині, так мусить піднесений бути й Син Людський,

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up,

15 щ об кожен, хто вірує в Нього, мав вічне життя.

that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

16 Т ак бо Бог полюбив світ, що дав Сина Свого Однородженого, щоб кожен, хто вірує в Нього, не згинув, але мав життя вічне.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

17 Б о Бог не послав Свого Сина на світ, щоб Він світ засудив, але щоб через Нього світ спасся.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.

18 Х то вірує в Нього, не буде засуджений; хто ж не вірує, той вже засуджений, що не повірив в Ім'я Однородженого Сина Божого.

He that believes on him is not condemned, but he that does not believe is condemned already because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

19 С уд же такий, що світло на світ прибуло, люди ж темряву більш полюбили, як світло, лихі бо були їхні вчинки!

And this is the condemnation, that the light is come into the world, and men loved darkness more than the light because their deeds were evil.

20 Б о кожен, хто робить лихе, ненавидить світло, і не приходить до світла, щоб не зганено вчинків його.

For every one that does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

21 А хто робить за правдою, той до світла йде, щоб діла його виявились, бо зроблені в Бозі вони.

But he that does truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

22 П о цьому прийшов Ісус та учні Його до країни Юдейської, і з ними Він там проживав та христив.

¶ After these things Jesus and his disciples came into the land of Judaea, and he tarried there with them and baptized.

23 А Іван теж христив в Еноні поблизу Салиму, бо було там багато води; і приходили люди й христились,

And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim because there was much water there, and they came and were baptized.

24 б о Іван до в'язниці не був ще посаджений.

For John was not yet cast into prison.

25 І зчинилось змагання Іванових учнів з юдеями про очищення.

Then there arose a question between the disciples of John and the Jews about purifying.

26 І прийшли до Івана вони та й сказали йому: Учителю, Той, Хто був із тобою по той бік Йордану, про Якого ти свідчив, ото христить і Він, і до Нього всі йдуть.

And they came unto John and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan of whom thou gave witness, behold, the same baptizes, and all men come to him.

27 І ван відповів і сказав: Людина нічого приймати не може, як їй з неба не дасться.

John answered and said, A man can receive nothing except it is given him from the heaven.

28 В и самі мені свідчите, що я говорив: я не Христос, але посланий я перед Ним.

Ye yourselves are my witnesses that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.

29 Х то має заручену, той молодий. А дружко молодого, що стоїть і його слухає, дуже тішиться з голосу молодого. Така радість моя оце здійснилась!

He that has the bride is the bridegroom, but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice; this my joy therefore is fulfilled.

30 В ін має рости, я ж маліти.

It is expedient unto him to increase, but unto me, to decrease.

31 Х то зверху приходить, Той над усіма. Хто походить із землі, то той земний, і говорить поземному. Хто приходить із неба, Той над усіма,

He that comes from above is above all; he that is of the earth is earthly and speaks earthly things: he that comes from heaven is above all.

32 і що бачив і чув, те Він свідчить, та свідоцтва Його не приймає ніхто.

And what he has seen and heard, that he testifies; and no one receives his testimony.

33 Х то ж прийняв свідоцтво Його, той ствердив тим, що Бог правдивий.

He that has received his testimony has set to his seal that God is true.

34 Б о Кого Бог послав, Той Божі слова промовляє, бо Духа дає Бог без міри.

For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for God does not give the Spirit by measure unto him.

35 О тець любить Сина, і дав усе в Його руку.

The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand.

36 Х то вірує в Сина, той має вічне життя; а хто в Сина не вірує, той життя не побачить а гнів Божий на нім перебуває.

He that believes in the Son has eternal life, and he that does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.
