1 H abía un hombre de los fariseos que se llamaba Nicodemo, dignatario de los judíos.

¶ There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a prince of the Jews;

2 É ste vino a Jesús de noche y le dijo: —Rabí, sabemos que has venido de Dios como maestro, porque nadie puede hacer estas señales que tú haces, si no está Dios con él.

the same came to Jesus by night and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that thou doest unless God is with him.

3 L e respondió Jesús: —De cierto, de cierto te digo que el que no nace de nuevo no puede ver el reino de Dios.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a person be born again from above, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4 N icodemo le preguntó: —¿Cómo puede un hombre nacer siendo viejo? ¿Puede acaso entrar por segunda vez en el vientre de su madre y nacer?

Nicodemus said unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb and be born?

5 R espondió Jesús: —De cierto, de cierto te digo que el que no nace de agua y del Espíritu no puede entrar en el reino de Dios.

Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Unless a man is born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 L o que nace de la carne, carne es; y lo que nace del Espíritu, espíritu es.

That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 N o te maravilles de que te dije: “Os es necesario nacer de nuevo.”

Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again from above.

8 E l viento sopla de donde quiere, y oyes su sonido, pero no sabes de dónde viene ni a dónde va. Así es todo aquel que nace del Espíritu.

The wind blows where it desires, and thou hearest the sound of it, but canst not tell from where it comes or where it goes; so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

9 L e preguntó Nicodemo: —¿Cómo puede hacerse esto?

Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can this be done?

10 J esús le respondió: —Tú, que eres el maestro de Israel, ¿no sabes esto?

Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a teacher of Israel and knowest not this?

11 D e cierto, de cierto te digo que de lo que sabemos, hablamos, y de lo que hemos visto, testificamos; pero no recibís nuestro testimonio.

Verily, verily, I say unto thee that we speak what we know and testify that which we have seen, and ye do not receive our witness.

12 S i os he dicho cosas terrenales y no creéis, ¿cómo creeréis si os digo las celestiales?

If I have told you earthly things and ye do not believe, how shall ye believe if I tell you of heavenly things?

13 N adie subió al cielo sino el que descendió del cielo, el Hijo del hombre, que está en el cielo.

And no one has ascended up to the heaven but he that came down from the heaven, even the Son of man, who is in the heaven.

14 Y como Moisés levantó la serpiente en el desierto, así es necesario que el Hijo del hombre sea levantado,

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up,

15 p ara que todo aquel que en él cree no se pierda, sino que tenga vida eterna. De tal manera amó Dios al mundo

that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

16 » De tal manera amó Dios al mundo, que ha dado a su Hijo unigénito, para que todo aquel que en él cree no se pierda, sino que tenga vida eterna.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

17 D ios no envió a su Hijo al mundo para condenar al mundo, sino para que el mundo sea salvo por él.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.

18 E l que en él cree no es condenado; pero el que no cree ya ha sido condenado, porque no ha creído en el nombre del unigénito Hijo de Dios.

He that believes on him is not condemned, but he that does not believe is condemned already because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

19 Y ésta es la condenación: la luz vino al mundo, pero los hombres amaron más las tinieblas que la luz, porque sus obras eran malas,

And this is the condemnation, that the light is come into the world, and men loved darkness more than the light because their deeds were evil.

20 p ues todo aquel que hace lo malo detesta la luz y no viene a la luz, para que sus obras no sean puestas al descubierto.

For every one that does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

21 P ero el que practica la verdad viene a la luz, para que se ponga de manifiesto que sus obras son hechas en Dios. El amigo del esposo

But he that does truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

22 D espués de esto vino Jesús con sus discípulos a tierras de Judea, y estuvo allí con ellos y bautizaba.

¶ After these things Jesus and his disciples came into the land of Judaea, and he tarried there with them and baptized.

23 T ambién Juan bautizaba en Enón, junto a Salim, porque había allí muchas aguas. Y la gente llegaba y se bautizaba,

And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim because there was much water there, and they came and were baptized.

24 p ues aún no habían encarcelado a Juan.

For John was not yet cast into prison.

25 E ntonces se produjo una discusión entre los discípulos de Juan y algunos judíos acerca de la purificación.

Then there arose a question between the disciples of John and the Jews about purifying.

26 Y vinieron a Juan y le dijeron: —Rabí, el que estaba contigo al otro lado del Jordán, de quien tú diste testimonio, él también bautiza, y todos van a él.

And they came unto John and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan of whom thou gave witness, behold, the same baptizes, and all men come to him.

27 R espondió Juan: —No puede el hombre recibir nada a menos que le sea dado del cielo.

John answered and said, A man can receive nothing except it is given him from the heaven.

28 V osotros mismos me sois testigos de que dije: “Yo no soy el Cristo, sino que soy enviado delante de él.”

Ye yourselves are my witnesses that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.

29 E l que tiene a la esposa es el esposo; pero el amigo del esposo, el que está a su lado y lo oye, se goza grandemente de la voz del esposo. Por eso, mi gozo está completo.

He that has the bride is the bridegroom, but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice; this my joy therefore is fulfilled.

30 E s necesario que él crezca, y que yo disminuya. El que viene de arriba

It is expedient unto him to increase, but unto me, to decrease.

31 E l que viene de arriba está por encima de todos; el que es de la tierra es terrenal y habla de cosas terrenales. El que viene del cielo está por encima de todos,

He that comes from above is above all; he that is of the earth is earthly and speaks earthly things: he that comes from heaven is above all.

32 y de lo que ha visto y oído testifica, pero nadie recibe su testimonio.

And what he has seen and heard, that he testifies; and no one receives his testimony.

33 E l que recibe su testimonio, ése atestigua que Dios es veraz,

He that has received his testimony has set to his seal that God is true.

34 p orque aquel a quien Dios envió, las palabras de Dios habla, pues Dios no da el Espíritu por medida.

For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for God does not give the Spirit by measure unto him.

35 E l Padre ama al Hijo y ha entregado todas las cosas en su mano.

The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand.

36 E l que cree en el Hijo tiene vida eterna; pero el que se niega a creer en el Hijo no verá la vida, sino que la ira de Dios está sobre él.

He that believes in the Son has eternal life, and he that does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.
